Majoring in delusion at Second Chance U

I mentioned the other week hearing rumors that Auburn was recruiting former Georgia defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor.  Well, it sounds like shit’s gettin’ real now.

While his legal issues have yet to be resolved, Taylor is currently on the road to redemption at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss.

According to 247Sports, he is being recruited by Auburn, LSU and Louisville. He unofficially visited LSU on Saturday and will “probably” visit Auburn this weekend for the Louisiana Tech game.

“Redemption” is such an amorphous term for a guy who believes – nay, knows – he’s a good guy.  After all, it’s not him, it’s us:  “I just feel like everybody has the wrong impression of me right now.”

Gee, I wonder how that happened.

Kind of getting sick of goofy ‘ol loveable Les getting the kid gloves treatment with Jeremy Hill, Honey Badger, Mettenberger, and Jalen Mills on his resume

Les Miles is one of the most powerful fb coaches in CFB today. Les is getting paid 4.3 million dollars a year to win football games. His buyout is somewhere around 19 million and he is worth well over a 100 million. Wins and losses affect the revenue stream of LSU. He is not concerned with raising kids whose parents didn’t get it done for them before college. What he is concerned about is getting as much out of players as he can for the least amount invested. (Kinda like rental housing.) 😉 So is the SEC and so is the NCAA. LSU’s DNA is written so as to enhance that win loss number.. Mark Richt is a head coach that believes his role involves other things besides winning or losing football games. We have a University that benefits when we win but looks at rules and regulations A Lot Closer than the majority of our competitors do. Some say they tie one hand behind our backs. IDK.

I agree. And I don’t blame LSU, or Auburn, or any other school for recruiting quality players who can help them win. The only part that gets me is the hypocrisy that these kids who have committed crimes are really great kids and the fact that they’re awesome athletes who can help the team win never even entered the coaches minds when recruiting them.

Let’s call a spade a spade. Jameis Winston may be a douche, but he’s a great talent who will be given as many second chances as he needs while he’s at FSU. Ditto for other elite athletes at schools like Auburn, LSU, and Louisville. Just have the courage to admit it.

Les has only had $1M+ contracts for 15 years or so; where did he get his money?

That is a result of the big money donors to each program. LSU is a school where the alumni and donors care more about wins and champtionships than they do about their reputation. Auburn isn’t really a school. I believe the correct term is “Organized Criminal Conspiracy”. The alumni and big-money donors at Georgia care about the reputation of thier athletic programs and winning the right way more than the outright number of championships. Fans of other schools call us “Morality U” for a reason.

Man, with the atmosphere around domestic violence right now, how could any school give a second chance? Oh wait, we are talking about Auburn, LSU and Louisville. All rules are suspended for those three, especially when it comes to UGA’s rejects.

Timphd, there has to be an actual video of him actually hitting her before we’re allowed to really get in an uproar about it. Police reports, eyewitness accounts — those don’t count!

“how could any school give a second chance?”

It’s a hardball world, son. Second chance recruits have got to jump on the team and come on in for the big win. Auburn, LSU and Louisville have to keep recruiting society’s finest until this domestic violence craze blows over

He’s not doing anything that he hasn’t seen college presidents, SEC Presidents, coaches and the NCAA do over the years. Play the system and make it pay off for you.

not surprised, but I thought that the current state of affairs might lead some of those schools to back off, but they figure it will be next season before he becomes a talking point, might as well roll the dice.

    • 2nd chance kid at 2nd chance U become a talking point? Maybe for boards like this, but correct me if I am wrong, I only hear vague cursory commentary on this from the national media. So when does this practice become a storyline for national media?

The national media is kind of tuned into the domestic violence and football story right now.

Good question, Twist. I’m convinced that no matter what sort of negative media attention Auburn may get, it will have virtually no affect on them. They seem to have no shame, even at the administration’s highest levels where you would think a responsible official would question the football program’s willingness to collect such rejects and discards. Auburn’s not alone in this sort of shamelessness, and it’s no coincidence that Petrino seems to smoke from the same pipe. AU and BP have some history, right?

Auburn seems so desperate to gain the respect of the state and the football world at large that they’re willing to forfeit their integrity in blind pursuit of football glory. But what they can’t seem to understand is that much of the football world at large views them as ill-mannered, unkempt, and unthinking rogues. And so every time they chase yet another castoff they do nothing but reinforce this stereotype. They just don’t seem to get it.

Everyone seems to forget that he was also involved in the stipend theft ring as well.

Rodney garner went to bat for the kid from Indiana that we had here. I think that kept the kid around until his third domestic violence incident.

Auburn is just waiting for the whole “domestic violence” thing to settle down for the NFL. Not that they give two shits about it really.

I love Auburn and I am looking forward to seeing just how shameless they can get with things. I really love when they let Nick Marshall speak to the media after games. It makes them look that much more intellectual. I am not sure he can spell his name.
