My problem isn’t the “kool aid” it’s the certainty that I’ve acquired that some terrible, horrible tragedy will befall us that I want rid of. I’d rather be high on the kool aid then a cynical bastard.
However, watching the ends of the SECCG vs. bama, the end of the last game on the plains, last years trip to Columbia, the end of the tech game last year, gurleys suspension, gurleys acl, nine acls last time in Knoxville, I mean you just start thinking that CMR is Job v.2.
If our luck every turns our way we may 4-peat because that’s how BAD our luck has been. An equivalent amount of good luck must mean a 4 peat.

We do a 4-peat and the Kool-Aid’s on me. Actually, a 4-peat would warrant a case of Dom Perignon, black caviar, and smoked salmon. Or, if you hang out with me, a couple of cases of Coors Light, a pallet of beer nuts, and several boxes of Dominican cigars.
And then I might go skydiving with that sort of accrued luck.

Lots of respect for, mingled with a healthy amount of mystery and fear of, are great things to hear from players describing a coach. “Father figure” is telling. CMR has put together a fine coaching staff at UGA!

Mini-rant Tangent:
We as a culture went through an abominable period of unearned self-esteem building. Researchers noticed a correlation between high self-esteem and achievement, and everyone just started pumping sunshine into kids at every turn – no matter what. And guess what? if people run around telling you how awesome you are, no matter what you didn’t do, what you half-did, or what you screwed up, then yes, it can create a monster.
But the reverse can be equally as harmful. At the end of the day, kids need to learn to do things for themselves and not to impress others – but everyone needs encouragement. And when people do accomplish something, especially if it’s the product of a lot of hard work over time and goal-setting, then the self-esteem building thing is entirely earned and entirely justified.

Yeah, I agree here. There are far too many special snowflakes today who have been told they fart pixie dust and the result is a crowd of coddled, entitled little shits. But if someone does a good job, tell them. The Georgia Bulldogs aren’t the Army Rangers, and if what I saw Lorenzo Carter do last Saturday doesn’t merit an attaboy, I don’t know what does.

^^This. Pruitt is a genius. He doesn’t name a defensive MVP so all the defensive players who played really well get talked about by their peers as being someone who deserved being MVP. Instead of 1 MVP the D gets several–all named by other players. No jealousy (HE got the award when I really deserved it!). No recriminations. Brilliant!

Absolutely, and very well said. IMO, the Millennials in particular in afflicted with this, in which many are self-deluded in terms of their overall intelligence, uniqueness, and importance. These are the ones who take constant “selfies” while updating their blog or facebook page as to their daily progressions or activities for all the world to be enthralled by.
With that said, there certainly are those out there that could use a little positive reinforcement or encouragement from time to time, especially those who have been dealt tough breaks or perhaps haven’t had positive influences previously. Like pretty much everything in life, its all about balance.

I indeed blame baby boomers, and my issue with them is an entirely different story for another day. Note that above I didn’t blame Millennials for the ‘affliction;’ just that many of them seem to have it. And FWIW, I’m not that much older than Millennials, so I’m sure older Americans most likely cast me in the same boat with them.

Cool. With all that said, even with their aforementioned weaknesses, I dig many, if not the majority of millennials. They are: open minded, not of the corporate slave induced/workaholic mindset of their baby boomer parents, would rather spend their free time with their family/kids instead of away out playing golf for 5 hours, want to make money but also want to make a difference while maintaining a healthy work/life balance, etc.

Yeah, I’ve fathered, uncled, coached, Boy Scout Merit Badged, and otherwise spent a pretty large amount of time with the millennial group, and while I do think the “everybody gets a trophy” thing is a problem, they’re overall a damn good group of kids.

I nearly flipped my lid recently when a friend of mines grade school teacher wife said she wouldn’t use red ink to grade papers/test because of its negative perception. I had heard of this stupid shit before on talk radios and thought they were exaggerating. What they hell are they going to use in 15 years when that blue/black ink has a negative perception?

From an offensive line standpoint, if you are going against the best DL possible in practice, when the band is playing your going to be ready to destroy the opponent’s DL. If these rush guys are as good as we think they are our Oline is getting an education.

If we demonstrate we can score vs. anyone we’ll be very good. If we struggle with turnovers and offensive production vs. a team that can pound the rock (bama or tech?) it might not look as good as we’d like. We need to make the opponent feel that they need to pass. A lead does that. Track meeting prior opponents does that. If we force a team to throw, they are gonna have a problem protecting their QB. If they think they can pass less than 10 times and win (florida in 2014) then we may not be all that. I’d feel better if 1) I knew the qb would protect the ball and be a threat and 2) that most of our big time off. weapons will stay healthy. We were a bad ass team playing with the lead last year. We were mediocre in close games and flat bad playing from behind. The reason is that our strength is getting after the passer and defeating east west running teams like auburn. North/south teams remain a challenge unless we can use the scoreboard to get them out of their comfort zone and start chucking it.

Looks like the plan in 2015 is going to be run the ball with Chubb & Gang, then go off play action deep. Like Bama does. Just in his press conferences and rotations and reps with the No 1 offense, CMR seems to be leaning to Ramsey as the starter so that looks like the plan to me. If that is the plan, then you can see why Bauta is the backup due to arm strength and no deep ball threat.
Tide are crafty, they lull you to sleep with the run, then boom, hit you deep. Did you know the Tide finished in the top 20 nationally in average yards per pass in 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2014?
Something tells me this is what CMR will try in 2015.

I think what’s important is to combine yards per pass attempt WITH yards per carry like Bama did so well 2010-2013.
Bobo didn’t have the running game to go along with it in 2010-2013.
I think it takes 3 things to emulate Bama’s 2010-2013 offense:
1- high yards per carry
2- high yards per average pass–a Qb that has the arm strength to go deep when defense sleeps on the pass
3- low turnovers
2011 Bobo had #2.
2012 had #1 and #2.
2013 just #2.
2014 had #1 and #3.
2008-2013 only cracked the top 3 in the conference once in rush yards per carry (2012 I think).
Didn’t finish in the top 3 for fewest interceptions in the conference in 2011, 2012 or 2013.
My guess is it’s this 3 part approach that CMR is aiming for in 2015 (couldn’t do it in 2014 with Mason’s arm strength).
That’s why I think you got to go with Brice or Jacob due to ability to make defenses pay with deep threat who stack the box.

Hi Ed, Did you mean part 2 (2- high yards per average pass)? Since you mentioned arm strength? Mason wasn’t a turn-over machine. In any case, I really think that CMR will just go with the QB that gives us the best chance to win. If that is Ramsey because of the deep threat or Bauta because of accuracy/mobility. These two are so close I think we can win with either and I think CBS and CMR will adjust and work with strengths of the QB chosen. And I doubt if the play book will need to change much with either. It’s not like Bauta has a noodle arm and Ramsey concrete feet. Given time, I believe we can win with Park. I feel like we are in as good a place as any team in the SEC and we will have a QB ready by fall. It seems all teams have question marks this time of year.

That should be the plan because hitting that deep ball is necessary to make everything go. You have to put fear in the DBs to open the running game. Brice needs to bring more to the table than just a cannon though. He has to do the simple things well too. I wouldn’t mind seeing a little of both next year because there are some teams (those less physical/deep up front) that Bauta would help a lot with. The bama game on the other hand will likely rise or fall on Ramsay unless we are a lot better across the OL than I think we are. I was more confident about the bama game before g-day. We have a long way to go at the qb position if we’re to survive that. Bama rarely loses to mediocre qb’s. If we’ve got one (or two?) you better make sure pruitt keeps them under 20.

Pruitt’s a mystery. The defense clocked Missouri but got gashed for 900 rush yards against Tech and Florida. At the Spring game, the defense looked good at run def except for the one long run where Turman broke it for 52 yards. The pass defense got burned on the 2 plays by Isaiah and Reggie, but didn’t give up any big plays after that, but way too many underneath completions were made. I really want’s impressed with the defense overall. I know the scheme was vanilla and the potential is there, but I left the Spring game worried about the defense again, but feeling good about the offense again. With Chubb, I don’t know how good the defense has to be, maybe they can just force a bunch of turnovers. But some high powered offenses will be coming in Gamecocks, Tide, Tigers, and Jackets, all run the ball extremely well. I don’t know guys, really need to improve between now and first test in Gamecocks.

The Gamecocks and Auburn are a high powered offenses? USCe lost their best RB and have their own QB, WR and TE issues and we held AU to 7 pts last year in Pruitt’s 1st year.

Gus’s offense finished 7th in scoring in 2010 nationally, 12th in 2013, and dropped to 27th in 2014.
Spurrier’s offense has scored 30+ points a game since 2010, he’s a smart guy.

mainly was referring to rush game, which Jackets, Tide, Ga Sthern and Tigers do awfully well. rush defense worries me the most on defense. not worried about lb’s or db’s, or the other teams except Spurrier and the four I mentioned earlier.
On offense, worried about injuries at wr/rb, and passing turnovers with Brice/Jacob but feel solid about run game and te’s and oline. Chubb’s so good it might not matter.

I looked at what CJP did with that secondary last year and came away very impressed. If you watch them from Clem’s Son to USCe to the end of the season, they progressively got better each week. I’ll be excited to see what he eventually can do with experienced guys on the back end like he had in Tallahassee.
I am concerned about how we got gashed up front at times last year (2nd half USCe, 2nd half Arkansas, Florida, last 3 quarters tech). I also see what we did to the Gus Bus, 2nd half Clem’s Son, and Louisville and have to believe the talent is there.

You’re joking right? Seems to me CJP rarely speaks to the media. Probably recruits better than any assistant CMR ever had. The D made huge improvements last year. He’s most responsible for all the positive changes we’ve seen in the program lately. So where does this comment come from?

Bobo and BMac were as good if not better than CJP at recruiting.
I doubt that CJP is solely responsibly for all positive changes.
Defense kept us from playing for an SEC title and having a shot at the playoffs.
If no one has earned the MVP award for the spring that is a reflection of how poorly he is coaching them up.
