“They’re more worried about their martinis, their wine & their music in Athens…”

Hey… I think this guy just insulted us.

I’d get upset, but I’m in the middle of fixing myself a drink and putting on an REM album right now.

Thanks, SEC Network!

Hard to dispute the facts he mentions. Haven’t won the SEC since ’05. Let a turd Mizzou team win the East by faceplanting, yet again, against bad SC and FL teams. And now we have a much hard cross-division schedule than Mizzou. Richt will likely continue to poop the bed.

Who’s our egg gonna be this year? At UT? Home to Mizzou? Flawrida?

  4. Isn’t it a shame that we aren’t just like auburn and Alabama fans? As aspirational as it is to be that thing, I’m afraid that we’ll never be that pathetic. I think we should acknowledge that when it comes to misplaced priorities, irrationality and just plain ignorance, the bammers and the barners just have us beaten and badly.

    • Well, he’s wrong about Georgia when it comes to Auburn. The Dawgs have beaten Auburn 7 out of the last 9 years. That said, as an Auburn fan once said to me, every time that game really means something Auburn wins.

        • Let’ be candid about this. Georgia does recruit on an elite level. Georgia hasn’t won an SEC title since 2005. 5 of Georgia’s biggest SEC rivals won the National Championship during the BCS era–but not the Dawgs. There is a reason. But I don’t think it has anything to do with UGA fans drinking or liking music. Or the quality of the players in Arhens, either. We’ve got excellent players.

Contrary to popular belief overall our talent level 06′-11′ was sub par. The core of the 02′-05′ teams were talent that JD brought in or should I say bought? It is just in the last 2 years that CMR has had elite’ recruiters that can recruit like Bama’. There have been many other systemic issues with UGA football which CMR didn’t have control over (yes he never had it so he couldn’t lose it). The Jan Kemp fiasco cast a very long shadow on UGA football and athletics. The “mea culpa” fall on your sword mindset that had pervaded UGA athletics since that time I believe has ended with the new President of the university. You are currently seeing the results in recruiting and across the board. Oh and when we lay 30+ on Bama’ in Sanford, would love Bo to come back and comment…

I agree about the systemic issues JT. CMR didn’t get the same type of support from the UGA administration that certain other SEC teams got. The recruiting, while maybe not #1 in the nation, was consistently Top 10. Was there a problem with not having a complete team? Absolutely. That was because CMR wouldn’t use his full amount of scholarships. That went on for years. Maybe that was, at least in part, caused by the lack of institutional support affecting recruiting. I don’t know the answer to that. So we were always short in depth at some position or another. One year it would be RBs. The next DBs. The next DL. And the whole time OL. My perception is that those days are over now the we have a university President who isn’t a total disaster.

Not on both sides of the ball at the same time. Even in 2012 when we had good players on defense, we had a poor DL and couldn’t get one stop in the 2nd half. The next few years are loaded on both sides of the ball so we shall see.

No we don’t; we’re just starting to get our talent back where we really should be. Since Stafford/Moreno were taken early way back in ’09, we’ve only had three players taken in the first round, with only one of those selected in the top 15 (AJ Green). Heck, the Washington Huskies just had as many players selected in the first round of the NFL draft this year (3) as we have in the last 6 NFL drafts combined. I can throw more at you, but if those two stats alone don’t cause you to momentarily take your red and black glasses off, nothing will.

Because Richt wins recruiting battles against Bama here in Georgia, and he can not have that. Not always but enough to matter.

Weather realized or not, that actually is among the greatest compliments a given fan base can receive. So thanks! What he’s basically saying is, “Athens is a great town with so many fun things to do, and most of the fan base has a healthy balance in their lives. Thus, they aren’t relegated to pathetically living each day of the year wondering how the football program is doing. This is a drastic departure from other SEC locales like Tuscaloosa and Starkville.”

That was my thought–heaven forbid we have decent lives here in Athens. Trying to pick a place to have dinner in Athens is a hard choice because you can even go to a bar like World Famous and have an excellent meal with your cocktail, and 5&10 is now doing a happy hour (they have an excellent program).
We’re starting to get a decent comedians coming to town somewhat regularly, too, and of course the music has always been good (note: AthFest this weekend, y’all: raises money for arts education, and features The Baseball Project, of Montreal, The Whigs, and even a kids’ stage with not-stupid music).
If only we were more like Auburn? Or Tuscaloosa? Excuse me?

What’s most ironic about the whole thing is the commentator in question is named “Bo Bounds,” and he’s from Mississippi. I mean, you just can’t make this stuff up. Talk about a complete lack of self-awareness.

That’s akin to a Phoenix U. grad lambasting a Vandy grad for their lack of palate sophistication when it comes to the enjoyment of Natty Light.

That will probably happen more than one time this weekend…
P.S. just next door at Little Kings, there’s corn hole and Street’s Cafe food truck.
P.S.S. Around that corner is one of the fastest growing breweries in the southeast. if only we were like Alabama and Auburn fans :/

From a purely football point of view, he is spot on. I really don’t aspire to be an Auburn or Bama type fan and I don’t want Athens or Georgia to become a town or school like those two.

I don’t have a problem with the truth and what he says is the truth.

What about us Dawg fans that do not live in Athens or even get to visit much? We are left to wonder about all the other stuff the insufferable Bo commented on. All these changes in the money part of the program signals an end to the oh you know Georgia is gonna screw up at least one time a year motto. Fail in 2015 and 2016 and all the fans can hope is that we held on to Pruitt long enough to make him the head coach at Georgia.

So an Old Miss fan is going to lecture UGA about drinking and not taking CFB seriously? Or for winning records, championships, national rankings? We are 3-2 against Alabama under Richt and have won 7 of 9 against Auburn recently….and when is the last time we ever lost to Mississippi? So suck up to FBomb if you must, but you may want to stay away from mirrors son.

For all the “UGA/Richt does less with more talent” crowd, exactly how many recruiting titles has UGA won in the SEC during the Richt eras, much less finished tops nationally? Seems we are between 3rd and 5th in most years in recruiting and maybe 7th-12th nationally. And we do something that many other SEC schools don’t do, we suspend players for “out of bounds” behavior (see what I did there), and limit signing to the number of available scholarships.

    Senator posted “this guy” up.
Would be good to have a little bio on him if he wants to comment on the Dawgs’ program. A little perspective history, perhaps.
Did not read the article, but from the comments it must be what others view as a culture of not winning the big games at the right time. For example Florida and GT last year…both games the Dawgs were favored and supposedly had the better players and coaches.
So is it the intangibles CMR and the players fail to bring to the game or is it a culture. Ten years without a SEC title is a decade of history re the program.
Do not know Bo Bounds, Bo Wallace blew up Ole Miss last year. And MSU tanked again, too. So it is a good thing they grow magnolias in Mississippi because they for sure can not play football, even though in their minds they think they can.

So Hutson Mason is a high school football coach as of yesterday.
CCHS and Rush Propst hired Mason into their program. Propst will look to mentor him up as an offensive coordinator.
As you may recall Propst has had the best playoff team in the state the past few years, and is the 2014 Georgia 6A defending champ. And some say Alabama after lighting up Hoover who eventually was the Bama state champ.
And two of the current Dawgs D coaches coached with Propst at Hoover. So Mason has a little glimmer into the program.
The team to watch this year is Lowndes. Before the season ended last year the consensus was LHS has the best offensive line seen in the state in decades. They return.
