Moving the chains

Pete Fiutak raises a statistical point about Saturday’s game that may be worth keeping an eye on:

As great as the Auburn defense has been at times, it hasn’t been great at stopping teams on third downs. It’s 6-0 when keeping teams from converting 40% of their third down tries, and 0-3 when allowing more.

Georgia has connected on its third down tries at a 54+% clip in four of the last five games, and the only time it didn’t was in the loss to LSU.

Along those lines, third down conversion percentage is an area where the Dawgs have a significant advantage over Auburn.  That’s got to be something of an anchor dragging Malzahn’s offense as it faces a defense that’s played solid bend but don’t break football all season long.

Old Pete is right about one thing, and lest we forget, the loss to LSU. Right there with Auburn.
Throw out the predictions and stats.
Will get down to who is man enough to man up and take it to the win column.

Right. I LOVE stats, hidden trends, tendencies, etc., but all he proved was the game we kind of stunk and didn’t make plays, we lost.

Yeah but stats help in identifying where you stunk the most and allows you to concentrate there. You spread yourself thing if all you remember is “we stunk” and you’re trying to do everything at once – or worse, start afresh!

I think Georgia had trouble with crowd noise in Jordan Hare Stadium last year and again at LSU this year. I’m hoping our crowd can return the favor to Auburn on Saturday night.

Would like to not get to 3rd down too many times, thanks.

At times it’s even worse than the stats tell.

The AU D will stuff the O into 3rd and >10 and the O will make a squeaker of a play to get the 1st down.

You’ll see it from the UGA O on Saturday.

    Oh well, there’s next year.
