“I’ve always looked at bowl games as more of a reward than another spring practice,’’ Johnson said. “When we talk to our team about playing in a bowl game, certainly our No. 1 goal is to try to win the game. But I also want our team to enjoy it and have some fun.’’
Convincing a bunch of kids that a trip to Detroit in late December will be a fun time and a reward should be no problem at all for a man who’s made his bones selling his program to recruits for years, amirite?
Nothing screams FUN! like spending a few days in a frozen wasteland with Paul “Santa Claus is Coming To 8 Mile” Johnson. The Hunger Games are Mardi Gras by comparison.

Probably not that hard. The bowl gifts and other activities always look like fun on tv. I am sure almost all the players will really enjoy themselves at the bowl game.
It might not be the most exciting place but I am sure They will all have a good time.

Funny aside, before i got married, the dingy dust-infested, spider den of a radio that my roommate and i kept on the screened in porch was a hand-me-down from his older brother. Swag gift from being on Bama’s 1992 SEC inaugural title game participant…. it even had the ALL NEW CD PLAYER! ! ! with an SEC logo printed on top (and long since broken)
/technology for the win

That is a tough sell. But every city has unique, interesting and fun things to do. I’m sure they’ll find a way to make the trip fun for the team.
The bigger sell is to the fans. Surely Detroit has to know they aren’t getting a big yellow tainted crowd. Maybe Minnesota will send a good bunch.
My guess is they’ll fill the place up with free inivites to local schools, sports teams, etc.
I still remember the nerds trolling UGA with the Hawaii/ Shreveport thing on their scoreboard.
Wasn’t that right after Georgia kicked their ass?

Yes, I remember that too. The board showed an animated hula dancer and asked is there anything like this in Shreveport?

I was there. Garrison Hearst answered that by taking one to the house.

Considering that only half of the people who visit Detroit ever return, GT should have plenty of scholarship slots to fill with new blood.

Three options, men:
Skip the bowl game & polish your Fortnite skills in your Mom’s basement.
Immediately transfer to a FCS school. New coach can’t block you.
Join me for an expense paid athletic journey and meet Matthew Stafford.
At Georgia Tech, you can do this.

My bad. I guess the answer was when George “Resume” O’Leary last patrolled the sideline.

Should take that wreck thing and let the boys and girls at G.M. do some modifications/color scheme/ trade school decor on it for the new hc to scoot around n. ave. in……..or maybe a shiny new golf cart will do

Sorry, boys, we had to spend your bowl game gift money on heavy coats for the team.
Bundle up!

Let’em have fun on the field. Go pro set, throw the ball 50% of the time, have PJ not swear and scowl, and still lose 77 – 0. Good times!

Well he doesn’t have to worry about highly rated recruits skipping the bowl to prep for the draft.

Letting tech drop to detroit was a mistake for everyone involved. They should have found a decent bowl for Tech to attend for CPJ last game. A lot of tech fans would have made the trip for that, but even the die hards that I know dont want to buy tickets to detroit. Tech will be on the hook for thousands of tickets that people would have actually bought in nearly any other venue.

I’m not sure tech was able to pick from a long list of options.

I would assume the bowl people would have picked a 5-7 FSU team over Fech if that had been possible.

Maybe the gtu players will get to meet Robocop. That would be the highlight of the trip for those Dragoncon lovers.

What’s funny is the fact that they’ll still be working on that stupid option, when most likely the expiration date on that thing will be when the bowl game clock strikes zero. The new coach won’t even be able to properly assess what he will be working with. Talk about a waste of time. No spring practice indeed.
