Spring composite rankings

The rich stay richer.

Sporting News wanted to gauge how everybody else was ranked. We looked at CBS Sports, USA Today, Sports Illustrated and ESPN to see what a consensus top 25 would look like. We also included SN’s post-spring top 25, which was released Monday.

Shocked, shocked, indeed, to find Clemson and ‘Bama on top.

By the way, Texas sure has milked that epic Sugar Bowl win into heightened expectations, hasn’t it…

Perhaps UF, Michigan, and ND are overrated. A & M ,anyone?

Yes, they have. Texas is one of the most over inflated on that list, although they have a very manageable schedule in the Big 12. Expect them to hang around the top 10-12 but don’t see them being above LSU, ND, or even Michigan. But it is the time of year where it is hard to argue exact positioning.

I am surprised more media experts aren’t picking against Bama more this season. Can’t argue the Clemson love with their clear path through the ACC, but more picks for UGA and LSU to replace Bama as SEC champs would generate more clicks, and have decent rationale to justify calling for the upset.

Clemson lost a lot off a Richt-level roster management team (played NC down 10+ scholarship players). Dabo had to flip his recruiting script and grab 29 guys. His class still only ranked 10th, which, given the 29 quantity, means a lot of 3 star quality.

Ostarine. Recruiting shenanigans in the headlines. Players being directed to the transfer portal.

Could be a tumultuous year up there.

Michigan, Texas, and UF in the top 10 is dubious to me. Michigan still hasn’t beaten OSU. This is probably their best chance all though they have quite a few defensive impact players to replace. Texas is probably 1-2 more years out but Elingher could make a difference to get them around 10. UF has issues in both trenches this year and might get exposed by USC and Missouri again.

According to Bill C, Texas lost the most experience of anyone in the country. They will not finish in the Top 10.

Yes I guess Guz will announce the next Heisman winner. Saves a lot of hype
Another issue. The field being named for Dooley. As it takes SO LONG for UGA to give well deserved honors I suggest that when Dooley is recognized that he walk over to the goal line and declare it is named for Hershel Walker. That would be easy

Florida in the top 10 is a huge surprise to me. If that is where they legitimately should be, then there is a HUGE drop of in talent after #9 LSU. That would indicate that there are only 9 quality teams out there.

Florida at 10 is the real head scratcher. Texas at least had some good wins last season, including a pretty good beating of OU the first time around. I expect them to be better this year. I’d love for them to win the big 12 and we get a rematch in the playoff, where presumably the game will mean something this time.

Yeah that Texas Sugar Bowl win is the only reason they ranked that high
