Today, in your daily Gator

Ten years ago, this comment thread could have appeared on any Georgia message board with the schools flipped.  Talk about your reversal of fortunes.

I know most of you wish for an ass-whipping in Jacksonville this year, but I’m kinda leaning towards a reverse of the ending to the 1992 1993 game, with the Dawgs getting a do-over for the game winner after a controversial, last-second time out.  Kirbs wouldn’t have to pull out his inner Spurrier afterwards for all to hear; he could just conduct his presser with a knowing smirk throughout.

    It was actually 1993, Senator.

’92 was more excruciating, seeing as it was the one time Georgia was legitimately better than Florida in the Spurrier era.

6.5 point favorites. Frank Harvey goes for 80 on first play….

WTF happened in the second quarter??

We should have been in Birmingham in December playing Alabama in the first SECCG.

          Bad times…

My recollection is them refusing to throw the ball for much of the game, and they really missed Mack Strong in the running game. The most frustrating part was watching Zeier carve Florida up when they went to the two minute offense at the end of the first half and after the game was pretty much over.

They were trying to get 5 going for sure. Would have been malpractice not to given the year he was having. It was a very close game that we nearly won btw. But 21 gator points in the second hurt a lot.

I have always said the Ray Goff could have coached against Steve Spurrier 100 times and would have been 0-100. The 1992 game pretty well proves my point.

That was the most excruciating GA-FL game I’ve witnessed in person. The TD/TO happened right in front of me as I was sitting in that endzone. No friggin’ way he called time out in time, plus I’m not certain he even made any sort of signal for one.

Add to that it was cold, wet and generally the worst conditions I’ve experienced at a football game and I’d rather blot that one from my memory banks.

If you slow it down the TO signal was made as the shotgun snap was in the air b/w Zeier and the center. It was about exactly halfway to the qb.

In fairness it was more timely than the flag on the Sinmons punt block. That flag went up while Simmons was air born and the ball was dropping towards the Bama punter’s foot.

Ugh, so true. The weather was $h!t that day. I ended up throwing my shoes away because of the mud. Just miserable.

I drank way to much Wild Turkey that day and was in the belly of the stadium when the dawgs were getting ready to come out. We were shaking the fence that led on to the field and they were ready to play. I tore a poncho off the man in front of me on one of our touchdowns and elbowed my buddies girlfriend in the eye when I jumped up after another score. It was not one of my finer days. I think my friends may have voted on whether to leave me at the stadium after the game. Wasn’t that a Halloween game?

It’s Ga/Florida..your suppose to be drunk and obnoxious ,your a Georgia fan. There a couple posters on this blog ,and they know who they are , who ,because they were drunk ,obnoxious and proud of that fact…..and because it was raining cats and dawgs combined with the fact that they were wearing ponchos (yes ,I know this is a run-on sentence) elected to just pee in the stands . It was the old Gator Bowl ,raining like hell and no one noticed…..besides I was upstream. I also recall Wild Turkey 101 was the drink of preference back then.

i disagree. I want to see an ass-whipping. I want them shelled, shucked and shellacked before the half. I want every Gator player and fan present to never want to step foot in that stadium again. Scorched Turf Policy. I want to see our 3rd string in the game late and scoring points.

Yes. I want another moment like the one in 2017 where they showed the Gator fan looking depressed, and Nessler said, “It’s not that bad.” Then Gary followed with, “Kinda.”

I just want a solid, 2-4 TD beating with some “legit” playing time for reserves to be better prepared for our continuing march to Atlanta. Nothing is served by risking athletes when you have other athletes who need development time. I am not saying reserves playing to run the clock out, I mean backups running the offense to score if they can. A 33-6 win that way is more meaningful to me than a 52-10 win using our starters to satisfy our fans’ revenge needs.

Was in the student section of the endzone – ankle deep waterfall coming down the metal bleachers the whole game. Cheerleaders (the guys) were getting a running start and body surfing across the puddles on the field.

The good news coming out of Athens these days provides only slightly more pleasure than seeing the daily misery emanating for Gainesville.

Give me a steady diet of close-in-the-first-half, our-depth-wins-in-the-second-half games for at least 10 years … Along with UF handing us killer turnovers at crucial times. That will be enough to get a new generation of gators to know the drill when it comes to Jacksonville.

I want a repeat of 2017 every year where the game is out of hand by the end of the first quarter and the gators and what are left of their fans are just shell shocked. Although I guess if it happens every year they won’t be shell shocked. #ftmf

You know, I don’t need Florida to be within two TDs of UGA when the clock hits zero. I’ll go with consistent and sustained beatings for $200, Alex.

I do have to send out a classic #ftmf to Gator Twitter. Those people are holding on to 1980 tighter than any Georgia fan I’ve ever met.

The blow outs are much more satisfying for us but the close losses are much more devastating for them. Either way, I will sleep well after the game.

In the 90’s, for the most part, the Turds scored early and often such that we were behind by 2 TDS by the middle of the first quarter and every one knew it was over. I want those kind of games for us the next 10 years

Just win baby! I don’t care by how much or how pretty, just beat them annually to the point all they can do is talk basketball, and even then I am hopeful Crean will make that misery for them too. No win over the Gators is a bad win, if by 1 point or 100 points, they are all satisfying to me. My ex father in law was a Gator and he busted my ass all during the Spurrier years (as if the Dooley years didn’t exist). I want a long sustained win streak against the bastards.

I almost want to sign up for 247 just so I can read all their misery.

Oh, and ’93 was the coldest I’ve ever been, just miserable. Yeah, I’ve seen temperatures much lower, but nothing is more bone chilling than damp/wet and cold.

I want to stomp Florida every game. I want them to have zero hope.

Well, Senator, I read through the remarks and the hurt still abides. Some remarks by our fans remind me of real-time remarks by the gator fans. Fans from both schools need a few moments on the couch of forgetfulness or we won’t be able to fully enjoy the unfoldings of their joyful blog.

What’s with the blank spaces on their blog? Did they erase remarks before we could enjoy them all or just get morose after they logged in to the point that they just couldn’t muster the fire? I even like the blank spaces because you can conjure up anything you can imagine and insert for better reading.

These blogs are a fun way to look at the recruiting leadups, especially when you factor in those who will chose specifically between UGA and FU. I had become uninterested in the teenagers’ hat drama, but could be convinced to watch one now just to be watching real time when UGA is picked and then think of the sinking feeling in those gator stomachs as they watch their future chances go trickling by one-by-one. Losing one or two won’t affect us the way it does them. Banana in the tailpipe, indeed.

You have a hit on your hands, Senator. Reading these ashen remarks will hold us all summer.

Senator, your scenario has a slow-burn quality that I can appreciate—we’ve done that to Tech on a number of occasions and it’s been hilarious each time. But as with Tech, I’d really like a 51–7-style beatdown first, just as a way of symbolically standing over them while they’re in the dirt and saying, “This is how things are now.”
