Fox Sports has two Georgia players going in the first round of this way too early mock draft, including this guy:
1. Detroit Lions: JT Daniels, QB, Georgia
The Lions tore the house down to the studs, and the rebuild began this past weekend with lots of work in the trenches. I’m not sure they’ll reach their projected win total of five, but they will be much tougher physically than last year.
Oh, boy.
If that unlikely scenario were to occur Daniels would be 3rd Bulldog number 1 pick in the NFL draft who was drafted by Detroit.
Also, that first round list includes Cade Mays and George Pickens

Mays will probably be hanging on by his fingernails to get through what would serm to be a very difficult year in Knoxville. I hate to point the finger at him for his decision to bail, but I wonder if he regrets his decision to cut himself off from a clearly superior program? Maybe he should have just told his stage manager dad to take a seat.

Yeah, he said he left UGA because of its toxic culture, or something like that, for la dolce vita of Rocky Top. That toxic culture produced a bunch of OL drafted into the NFL since he arrived in Athens in 2018. UT, not so.

His Dad had more toxic culture in his finger than in the entire UGA program.

I hope he enjoyed Livin’ La Vida 0-fer” on Rocky Top. May 2021 bring them similar blessings.

But Trey Smith was drafted in the 7th round this year. Lol.

I see what you did there.

I like JT Daniels. But I do not see him as a number 1 pick. I could be wrong, but I just do not.

Never underestimate an NFL’s team’s willingness to reach for a QB in the first round.

It is astounding. The last 21 drafts have seen 65 QBs selected in the first round. While there have been the likes of Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, etc., there have been far more that either completely flamed out or were just mediocre backups a few years after their draft.

I’m inclined to agree with you, JSteph. This is one of those times I want to be wrong.

Cade Mays in the 1st round? That seems like a HUGE stretch. If that is even a remote possibility it would be as a guard since he was like a revolving door at tackle.

Adam Anderson is ready to abuse that revolving door.

Correct. Mayes’ skill set is as a guard, not a tackle.

No way Mays goes first round. Not sure he’s as good as his 5-star teammate Trey Smith, who went to KC near the end of the 6th round on Saturday.

Trey only dropped that low because of serious health concerns. When healthy, he’s better than Mayes.

I’m not sold that JT is a high first round guy especially at #1 where you are practically ready to be the starter on the first day of camp. I would rather see him around 15 where he could go somewhere to learn and be ready to take the reins.

I`m certainly hoping JT is the first pick over all. If so Georgia has had a Dawg gone good year.

Everyone is assuming that JT is gone after this season. He has another season of eligibility left and he started college at 17.

Actually he was 18. Yes, he graduated a full year early to go to college, but he had been held back at some point when he was younger. Seth Emerson had a really good piece on him in the Athletic recently and it discussed this. I wasn’t aware of it until I read it. Anyway, he’ll be 22 at the next NFL draft.
Also, it’s a pretty weak QB class next year (at least at this point), so if he has a really good year in 2021 there’s no reason for him to come back. Especially if he’s projected in the first round.

#1? A first-pick QB doesn’t have to be Michael Vick, but they do have to be superlative off-script – plus they have to be either (a) straight out of Central Casting with arm, height, etc (Trevor) or (b) insanely efficient (Burrow, Baker).
Daniels fits none of these descriptions. I could easily see him in the first round, just the 3rd of 4th QB off the board – but that assumes he absolutely kills it this year, including very good numbers against Clemson’s and Alabama’s defense.

It’s a weak QB class, so you never know. I think Howell is more likely to go ahead of him, but hey, I’m here for JT going #1 and what that means for the Dawgs.
