SEC Power Poll, Week Six

I’m not saying the SEC has fully descended into 2007 levels of chaos territory, but I’ll admit you can see the entrance to the mine from here.

  1. Georgia.  Last week I said I wouldn’t move the Dawgs to the top spot until I saw somebody break Alabama’s serve first.  Consider serve broken.
  2. Alabama.  Well, hell, Nick.  I guess it was a trap game.
  3. Kentucky.  Sure, everybody saw this coming.
  4. Florida.  Technically speaking, they’re fourth in the division as I type this.
  5. Texas A&M.  It feels like Jimbo Fisher spent the last eight months getting his team ready for Alabama and forgot to prep for anyone else.
  6. Ole Miss.  Honestly, you could put the next three teams in any order you like and I wouldn’t argue.  It’s not good when you give up 51 points at home to a team that was shut out the week before.
  7. Arkansas.  I love that Pittman played for the win instead of overtime.  If only he’d been rewarded.
  8. Auburn.  They’re better defensively than Ole Miss and Arky, but worse on offense.
  9. Tennessee.  The Vols have scored more points through six games (249) than in 10 games last season (215) under Pruitt.
  10. Mississippi State.  Bye week, but that win over TAMU looks better in the interim.
  11. LSU.  The question remaining about the program right now is where Coach O will be the defensive line coach/recruiting coordinator next season.
  12. South Carolina.  Vandy comin’.
  13. Missouri.  Outgained by North Texas, their only saving grace was going +4 in turnover margin.
  14. Vanderbilt.  In conference play, they’ve yet to score and they’re giving up 52 points per game.

I understood your reasoning for keeping Bama at #1 until they lost. I just didn’t understand in a Power Poll how it could be justified. The Dawgs were obviously the best team in the SEC whether they lost or not. NHNF. Order has been restored.

Vandy actually threatened multiple times in the first half of that game and were screwed out of a touchdown that would have made it 21-7 at the half. If Florida had been playing a halfway competent team, they would have lost with the effort they put out.

  3. What the hell was Nick saying at half time? Was that an early sign of dementia, or was he just so pissed he couldn’t think or talk?

Now remember… Georgia hasn’t played anybody. Just ask Arkansas and Auburn and for that matter, A&M and Penn State.

What happened at Missouri? I thought this was a rising program in the East.

Don’t think for one minute that the Gatornation doesn’t know that Georgia hung 35 on Vandy in a quarter.

Damn. This was more fun than even seeing the AP and Coaches Polls published.

And spare me the Munsoning if any of you are like the people I saw on Twitter yesterday. This is fun, and I’m going to enjoy it.

This question/comment isn’t on subject here and I apologize for it, but could you run a post about some of the officiating in the Bama game? At one point, the play clock hit zero and Bama wasn’t flagged. The announcing crew said someone contacted the official reviewers (whoever they are and where ever they are…prob in Tuscaloosa) and were told “That it wasn’t egregious”. ???!!! And Bama’s touchdown where the whole team wasn’t set before the snap..and no flag? NOBODY else gets away with that.
It’s just more evidence that Bama gets calls. And while I’m at it, I’ll say that Bo Nix is an idiot for complaining about officiating at Auburn after what the officials did for them against GSU.
I wish I had the technical know how to do a whole little video expose’ on “SEC Officials terrible moments and calls of 2021”. They’ve had a bad year.
Scares the hell out of me in the SECCG.
BTW..I pretty much agree with your Power Poll.

How about Bo Nix spiking the ball backwards last year against Arkansas, the Razorbacks jumping on big and the officials calling it an incomplete pass even after a booth review. Auburn was trying to stop the clock for field goal. Arkansas would have won if the officials had called a backwards pass a fumble (as it is.)

My top five (same as last week, just different order) with comment:
    1) DAWGS — Still trying to wrap my head around how much BETTER this team could be with those not participating. Can UGA be 12-0? Yes. Can UGA beat Bama with Bennett? Maybe. Can UGA win two playoff games with Bennett? No. Still, DAWGS are best in the conference hands down.
    2) Kentucky — Demolished LSU. Georgia will be tested defensively more so than any other opponent with W. Robinson and Rodriguez. Well coached. A QB that can make plays (and stink simultaneously). Mature super seniors that are now hungry. And I think could run rough shot on Bama.
    3) Bama — Well, the chinks in the armor finally caved. Golding abusing the defensive talent in Tuscaloosa. Interesting to see how Saban allows him to run the defensive show. Insiders telling me changes cometh on the defensive play calling. Arguably the worst QB in the conference (and worst offense) destroyed the Bama D. The real Bryce Young showed up. He had 360+ yards/3 TDs….but also had 20 incompletions (most were extremely inaccurate and while being chased). This Bama team has another regular season loss coming. I’ve thought Arkansas had the best chance all year.
4A) Ole Miss — by default.
4B) Arkansas — Big Sam has some big balls. Immediately (without hesitation) going for two was AWESOME. Would have loved to see the PIGS get the win.
***There is no way in hell TAMU is top five. They were dominated by Arkansas and have a dismal loss v. Miss St. They beat a way overrated Bama with a QB that caught lightning in a bottle.
***Florida in the same boat. Not top 5 worthy. In three weeks, they will have three losses. Gone.

I wouldn’t count out Bama just yet. I think that I heard that the last time A&M beat them was 2012 with Manziel under center. I think that we can all remember how that season ended with Bama winning the SEC and humiliating a ND team that had no business in the BCS championship game.
