Your game day post, Cocktail Party edition

With the quarterback question decided, on to what I think is the big issue:

Can Georgia establish a running game today?  If so, I don’t see how the Gators can stay with the Dawgs, regardless of who plays quarterback for them.  If they struggle running the ball, I think Bennett winds up giving way to Daniels, assuming he’s healthy enough to play.

Bottom line, I think the Dawgs will be able to run the ball and I think Georgia covers the spread.  And, yes, Florida will turn the ball over today.  More than once.

Have at it in the comments.

The game really comes down to two factors:

Does the gators defense show up?

Do the gator qbs protect the ball?

They’ll need both to go their way to make it interesting.

I’m with you Senator. I said in the prior post that we want to run the ball and that is SB4’s Bread and butter RPOs. If we can’t then JT will come in and cut them to pieces.

I agree. I think we cover the 14 and quite frankly I think we win by more than that. I also believe Ole Miss beats Auburn despite playing in Auburn.

The only bet I would take on the Ole Miss-Auburn is the over. If Nix is having a good day, Auburn might outscore OM because Auburn can play a little defense.

I expect SBIV to start and move the ball with RPOs then JTD to come in, assuming health, and throw it around once they adjust and start holding the run down.
I also expect (hope) Kirby to give JD99 his Heisman moment with some type of run play for a TD in the third qtr.

Coach Dooley played his All-American DT, Gen. George Patton, at QB on our last series against, FL. GT??? It was really neat (pardon the old expression)

Patton played the last couple of plays against SMU in the Cotton Bowl. Patton was a HS QB and he threw deep but he didn’t complete it.
I have either heard or read that Dooley let Bill Stanfill take a snap or 2 at the end of our 1968 asskicking of Florida.

Just win and if there is an opportunity for style points in the second half it would be nice to see JD run a wild Dawg formation touchdown while breaking the 50 mark.

    I sort of agree…

I think UGA needs to be able to run the ball or get UF to commit too many guys in the box. Stetson or JT will shred them through the air if there are plenty of 1 on 1 match ups.

When Florida has the ball they have to do the same thing. If they can’t get UGA to commit more than 3-4 guys to the box they’re doomed. I think we see a lot of QB runs.

Florida has a good football team
Georgia has a great football team.
Talent, Depth, Coaching, all favor Dawgs.
The Dawgs must win this game and not stumble against Tennessee to even win the East. So this is probably being taunted as a “must win” to the team.
There shouldn’t be even a whiff of slacking off until the last second of the NCG has ticked.

Word on the street is that Kirby has been replaying last year’s game on a loop at butts mehre and riding everyone’s ass even more than usual this week. This game has been circled on the calendar.

This is what I see as the path for Florida if the Gators are to pull off the upset (using the word upset intentionally).

    1) Not turn the ball over on offense and be able to run the ball. The Gators are actually in the top 10 in total offense (~500 yards a game, 7yards a play) and about ~55-60% of that is on the ground. This is a run heavy but explosive offense. Their problem has been turnovers. Them vs our defense is strength vs strength. If they take care of the ball they could challenge our defense and make this a game. If they can’t run the ball or if Jones/ Richardson turn the ball over, it’s a blowout for us.

#2) On the other side of the ball, the question is if Florida can take away Georgia’s run game and make Stetson Bennett and a deplated receiver corps beat them through the air. I put the odds of this as low unless a Todd Grantham defense plays well against a decent but not great offense for the first time maybe ever.

If 1 and 2 happen, Gators can win. Strange things happen in Jacksonville but if I’m looking objectively, a lot has to go right for Florida to win including them just suddenly turning into something they haven’t been all year. I think Dawgs win but don’t cover as I do expect Florida to come out swinging and hang around at least until the third quarter.

I think it turns on UF being in the game. Meaning, do they play or has Mullen lost them? If he’s lost them, it gets ugly. I expect they play hard until they can’t win and then they lay down and quit. At 4-4, they get what they are. Nothin’.

I also believe they can win. I just don’t expect it.

100% disagree with this narrative you are spinning that SB4 is better for us than JTD. (I do appreciate and love SB4 of course). Thankfully we have an OC that knows how to scheme each. The play selection would be worlds different with another QB bc we have one of the best in the business. So this JTD would be sacked doesn’t move the needle for me. Obviously YMMV, but we just see it differently. It’s a moot point. All good and we are rolling. Let’s keep it up.

I have a theory (andI have no evidence to back it up) that JT’s injury was not an oblique or a lat issue but that he broke some ribs on a hit during one of the first couple of games.

I don’t understand why they would not disclose it as such other than the hope has been that each week he might be healthy enough to go and they don’t want opponents trying to take gut shots?

No matter what the issue is, I have shared my thoughts about the situation. It doesn’t matter which pathway the coaching staff takes, a sizable portion of the media and our fanbase will not be happy with the decision if the 2021 ends in something other than a NC.

There is no way ESPN hires Danielson as the lead commentator for the SEC games. He is 70 and this will be his last dance on a full-time gig in the booth. Nessler is 65 and I think he has been as good a college play by play man as anyone in the last 20+ years. I am curious if he is ready to hang up the microphone or wants to go back to ESPN.

It will be interesting to see what ESPN’s approach will be for the SEC lead game. If they take the approach that Fox has with the B10 and the top game in the conference (Johnson/Klatt is always Big Noon) is the top guy on their network for the week, then why would they switch from Fowler & Herbstreit?

If they want to make the SEC its own deal within the ESPN family, then they may create a lead SEC team which always does the big game unless it is an SEC vs non-conference opponent (which goes back to Fowler & Herbstreit).

I hope they create a lead SEC team but I don’t think we will like the If they go two man booth (which is now the regular standard) I think the gig goes to Tebow. If not him, then likely McElroy.

They could break the mold a bit and do a 3-man booth for the lead broadcast in which case I could see that being a combo of Tebow/McElroy and probably Pollack.

I’ll give you that SB had 2 awful throws. One didn’t hurt a bit, though. But that wasn’t the only two plays he had. He did some good stuff too.
Let’s see what his running yardage was, how many times he escaped pressure, and how many completions/incompletions and yards passing he had.
I think (hope) the reason JT didn’t play is because he didn’t need to.
With Florida having a lot of success getting pressure on the QB, it’s best that JT wasn’t put at risk.. Just no reason to risk his ongoing recovery.
I’m glad SB got a measure of revenge for what happened in 2020.
Now JT has a few games to get back in the groove and help kick Alabama’s ass in Atlanta. Come on, George Pickens…get well soon!!
(I’m not so sure Alabama is going to win the West. The Iron Bowl is going to be a contest).

    • Good on ya, ugly. Not a ton of people want to even half-heartedly cheer for Stet these days. The guy threw three passes that were “rough”… one was at the end of the first drive, which fell harmlessly into the endzone. I don’t know if that was a mixup on the route, or if the receiver had an option route, and they Stet made a poor assumption of what the receiver would choose.

The first pick may have been bad placement, or may have been a receiver issue. Fitzpatrick lolligagged his way down the field, but I don’t actually know if that one was to him or Burton. Either way, on deep balls like that, you’re making a read way early and throwing to where the guy is supposed to be. If they aren’t there, that ain’t fully on you.

The last one… he was definitely late throwing that ball. It was to the right guy, but the placement wasn’t as good. A little further left, and it’s a 1:1… let our guy go get it.

People like to slag on Bennett. The dude’s undefeated as a starter this year. He exorcised his Florida demons. No clue why JT wasn’t out there, but the fact that he NEVER saw the field, even when our O was sputtering, tells me that Kirby never felt the risk was worth it.

We’ll see if anything changes in 7 days.

MuLLLLet is a douchecanoe. His team played the best they possibly could and still never stood a chance.

Not much fireworks from TE Bowers in the receiving game. But on Zeus’ TD he was blocking on the second and third levels. Took out one DB and then another to spring Zamir for an untouched TD.
On Nakobe Dean’s pick six AR15 came screaming like a bullet attempting to keep him out of the end zone. Similar to SBIV when he threw the pick six. Compare those to Beck lollygagging after his pick six. What does that make him?
    A lollygagger.
Little wonder we haven’t seen much from him since.

Some of y’all shouldn’t post during the game…better to remain silent, than to remove all doubt about your level of dumbass, you know who you are.
