The eyes of Texas are upon Steve Sarkisian.
Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte released a statement of support for head coach Steve Sarkisian on the heels of the Longhorns’ 57-56 overtime loss to Kansas in his public Fort Acres Insider newsletter on Tuesday.
“At Texas Athletics, we all know it was a devastating way to lose,” Del Conte wrote. “You are all so passionate about your Longhorns and feel frustrated about how things have gone for five games. Trust, we’re so disappointed and frustrated too, but no one is more upset than Coach Sark and the team.”
Del Conte circulated talking points that Sarkisian spread earlier this week about the number of players who have transferred from the 2018 and 2019 recruiting classes, counting 52% in 2018 and 46% in 2019 that have left the program. Both of those classes ranked top three in the country. Additionally, Del Conte revealed that 25 players missed practice before the Kansas game because of the flu.
A head coach needing a statement of support from his AD ten games into his contract — that’s gotta be some kind of record, isn’t it?

How that program can be so wobbly and mediocre for years, considering the resources, is a mystery.

No mystery at all. The boosters interfere there more than anywhere. It is going to take a coach with HUGE STONES to tell them to go fornicate themselves.

For quite a while, Texas kept Georgia from being the program doing the least with the most resources. I guess we should be somewhat thankful for that.

I hope they do, only to see them tumble deeper into the abyss. Even the most egotistical of coaches (I’m looking at you Urban) wouldn’t go to a school that only gives a coach one year.

Dang, Sark’s already been given the kiss of death by the AD before the first year is over? I love it! (As long as Sark doesn’t end up back in Tuscaloosa)

If his palm reader or some one with inside knowledge of longhorn football didn’t bring up the reality of, if you don’t win, this experiment won’t end well…you wanna rehab your hc skills, nw Texas state might have been a good idea, ask the last two longhorn hc’s….

As long as you put a lock on the minibar, Sark is a dang good OC…if he gets booted again (and I don’t think he will this season), another program will pick him up as an assistant if not OC.

He was a strange hire imho. Good schematic coach, but doesn’t have head coach moxie, especially at a place with micromanaging boosters and a systemically toxic locker room. Does Texas even rank in the top 5 of schools within Texas? Maybe Sark will pull a Mel Tucker and transfer portal them to mediocrity, but that doesn’t seem like a recipe for long-term success in the SEC.
