It just means more except at MFU and Vandy.

  4. Wonder how it feels for Gator fans to be staring up at Jim McElwain, on track to pull in the #73 recruiting class for Central Michigan.

Then again, at least they’re not the USC Trojans, currently spinning their wheels at #99. Oof.

The media loves narratives (and loves beating them into the ground) but I think the one about Mullen being a piss-poor recruiter is clearly based on empirical observation. Even if he hadn’t been dismissed, he wasn’t going to reel in a good class – better than what the jorts have now but still far from elite.

Related thought: Programs in larger media markets should really be able to make hay with NIL compensation. Unless boosters really step it up (which certainly will happen in some cases), programs in places like Gainesville, Tallahassee, Starkville, etc. are going to be at a potentially significant disadvantage compared to ones in or close to Atlanta, LA, Miami, etc. or the handful that have a national following. Well, assuming programs in large markets (I’m looking at you, GT) actually know how to take advantage of the opportunity. Many don’t and won’t.

The Senator already shared Napier saying they weren’t going to sign very many dudes today. They’re going to put their full effort into February. Frankly it makes sense that you wouldn’t sign guys just to sign them if you’ve only been on the job for 10 days and didn’t get to evaluate them. He can always add more in the transfer portal. The ESD is hell for programs with brand new coaches. That said, there’s no way Florida can avoid a big setback with this class and I’m here for it.

So Napier said that, did he? Yeeeah, and I’m scratching my crotch to look fly as a White guy and not because Uncle Got lied when he promised me that he sanitized Crabbie Cate’s panties with Mr Boston vodka. I wear ’em for support. Don’t judge me!

    • That one shocks me, & not much in recruiting surprises me. Just the whole uncertainty of FU right now. Maybe he watched our db’s against Bama & figured he’d be better off elsewhere. Couldn’t blame him, they looked as if they’ve had no coaching this season.

      • You do realize that Lewis Cine was the only returning starter in the secondary. They played one bad game all year because there was no pass rush and a couple of blown coverages. No secondary can hold up when a QB is given enough time to play dealer’s choice.

esp when that one QB is Bryce Young. While the secondary wasn’t really a strong point, it bent without breaking until the Bama game.

        • A couple of blown coverages is being pretty generous. Agree they got no help from the rush, also a coaches problem, which only serves to make my point stronger. That was a pathetic showing on the biggest of stages and our coaches got pantsed. It took almost 3 full quarters to make adjustments. Nothing about that game makes me think Bama’s not hoping for a rematch. Several teams laid out a really good blueprint on how to defend this team & it’s like our coaches said screw it, we got this. The four up front protect gaps & everyone else sit back in a soft zone. I’m no X & O guy, but that’s how it appeared to me. Please tell me I’m completely wrong & we’ve got nothing to worry about going forward. I’m serious, please tell me that.

          • No, I’m not going to tell you that. What I am going to say is that I believe the defense will play a much different game if we see Bama again. We were holding them (remember it was 10-0. If you think our defense is worse than Auburn and LSU (who both held Bama in the 20s, we’ll just have to disagree. I don’t know if we’ll win a rematch, but I’m not going to be like some who have openly said they hope we don’t get a 2nd chance.

Love it! Gators #77 in recruiting. Dead last in the SEC. Next all their best players will jump into the portal (I hope).
