I dunno. Maybe it’s just me, but this “us against the world” shtick Ohio State is trying out smacks a little bit of being fake juice.
“I do feel like people are counting us out, but that’s fine,” Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud said during a news conference on Tuesday. “We’ve been counted out plenty of times … This isn’t nothing new. I definitely think this is the path that God wanted us on and I’m just rocking with that. If that means we’re the underdog, I’m cool with it.”
…
“I always thought it was ‘Ohio Against the World,’ even before this game,” Buckeyes receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. said. “I’m glad we can play them in Atlanta, in kind of their home arena. Kind of always like being the villain and underdog going into the game, so it’s exciting to be able to do that.”
C’mon, guys. Who are we kidding here? OSU isn’t some schlub outfit lucky to be in Atlanta. The Buckeyes are third in 247Sports’ Talent Composite, right behind Georgia. (For some perspective, Michigan is 13th and TCU is 32nd.) If people are taking the Buckeyes lightly, it’s because they showed their ass taking Michigan a little lightly in their last game, not because they have a history of being counted out. Besides that, if the Buckeyes think the woe is us approach is going to fire them up, well, it didn’t work so well the last time they came in as an underdog this late in the season.
The No. 1 Bulldogs opened as 6 ½-point favorites, according to Caesars Sportsbook, and the line hasn’t budged. It’s the first time No. 4 Ohio State has been an underdog since a 52-24 loss to Alabama in the CFP National Championship after the 2020 season. The Buckeyes were 9 ½-point underdogs in that game but then were favored in each of their 25 contests since.
Yeah, that’s pretty stupid. Haven’t looked, but pretty sure those F’ers have been favored in every game they have played for the last two years. Disrespect? Stop it… You playing the #1 team in the country and defending national champions that you came into the season ranked in front of and have been ranked right in front of them or right behind them all season. 6 1/2 dog with the game being played in Georgia is not disrespectful. It’s about right. But with all this disrespect talk – I hope we beat them by 30+. That will shut them up…

Michigan was favored when they played, I think, but yeah Ohio State might want everyone to think that they like being the underdog but they certainly can’t claim being used to it. It almost never happens.

Nevermind, I just re-read the last paragraph. They were favored over Michigan in Vegas, too, I guess. Plenty of people were calling for the upset but I thought Vegas had them as the dog. My mistake.

The Suckeyes and their fans have a dose of cold reality coming their way, much in the same way that the Wolverines and their fans did last season in the Orange Bowl.9

Ryan Day has rightfully lost respect after 2 losses in a row to Michigan, so Harrison is likely hearing more negative noise on his side of the country.
But maybe to test their “feelings” then besides Herbstreit, who is going to pick against us in a straight up win? See, Therein lies the “us against the world”

Facts. But fake juice is typically concocted for the players to consume rather the fan and punditry classes😊

I’ve been in this town so long that, back in the city, I’ve been taken for lost and gone and unknown for a long long time.

They keep using that word underdog. I do not think it means what they think it means.

My question is how do they take lightly “the team from up North” who beat them the prior year? That performance feels like a systemic issue to me.
In short, if they couldn’t get up for UM in their home stadium a year after losing to them, how do they respond here? Can they respond here?
I have my doubts especially where the challenge here is two or three fold.
We ain’t Michigan dude. And MBS is gonna be rocking.

At 6.5 we are a steal. Got to believe heavy money will be put on the Dawgs late and the line goes up.

Eh, they’re going to do that. To be honest, I see a lot of our fans saying how we don’t get any respect, which just boggles my mind. Every time I turn on the TV, there’s some talking head going on about whether anyone can hang with Georgia.

Sorry, CJ, but God doesn’t give a rip about your football team or mine.

I understand they have to tell themselves this but it’s definitely fake juice.

When your success is the result of being the Gamecock’s sloppy seconds, you tend to have some emotional baggage…
