Get The Picture 
Those sports mortgages sound like supersized versions of the permanent seat licenses (PSL’s) that became the norm for pro teams the last 10 years or so. Pro teams don’t have booster club contributions as a way to set seating priority. Nonetheless, PSL’s appeared at South Carolina a couple of years ago when they re-did their seating purchase plan.
When you take your (justified) swipe at Wall Street for mortgage loan problems, do you include the people in D.C. who pushed them to loan on anything on nothing?

I think the pols deserve a lot of the blame for the financial markets debacle, but not necessarily in the way you suggest.
You could see the crisis at Fannie and Freddie coming all the way back in the late 90’s, when everyone turned a blind eye as they dabbled in derivatives to fatten the bottom line and their executives’ pockets. That was on the Dems watch. But the decision to repeal Glass-Steagall was a bipartisan mistake.
Wall Street wasn’t pushed. It reacted in a logical way to a dysfunctional and perverse set of incentives that the government set in motion.
I’m a big fan right now of what Paul Volcker suggests we need to do to correct the mess.

Because Wall Street simply can’t help itself when it comes to how it invests other people’s money? I mean, did you see the way she was dressed? She was asking for it, man!

If you became convinced that Uncle Sam would be there in the event that you became too big to fail (i.e., Goldman Sachs) or because there was a long-standing assumption that the Feds were backing your actions (i.e., FNMA) such that the taxpayers would cover your losses, wouldn’t you behave in a riskier manner chasing larger and larger potential profits for you and your clients?
That’s exactly what happened.
Again, Wall Street didn’t act irrationally. Quite the contrary.

Well, there’s “investing other people’s money” and then there’s leveraging at 90-1 and purchasing CDS against your glorified bets.
Letting those bozos play with glorified monopoly money isn’t good for anyone but them.

How much Glass Steagall do you think we need? I have no problem with B of A owning Merrill Lynch’s retail brokerage, so people can get their securities where they bank. I think the problem is when banks start underwriting and issuing securities, particularly the exotic varieties.

Every time Nesbitt drops back to throw, Tech immediately concedes any advantage they previously held over the defense. Please, pass more often, PJ, please. Yes, this is a swipe at Nesbitt’s passing accuracy and Georgia Tech’s lack of anything remotely like a receiver lined up on the outside.
Abry Jones is right. Now, it comes down to getting the most out of the potential that is there… something the former regime was unable to maximize.

Regarding the secondary changes, I wonder if it will rub off on our receivers as well, practicing against getting jammed at the line and an aggressive D — you know, like how our rivals play, instead of preparing in previous years against a soft zone.

Every time I read about the new D it makes me sad. Just think of 2008, if we had only had this D we would have ruled the world. CMR can’t seem to get this V8 to run on all 8 cylinders, we seem to usually be running on 6. If we can ever get it going it will be awesome to watch.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. I am just as excited as you are about the new defensive scheme and coaches, but none of that means a thing until we see it in action against a quality opponent.

Per the DB’s, I’ve seen a few articles now that say the Lakatos approach is “high risk”. When watching 3/4 defenses in the NFL, like NE, Steelers, Cowboys, I don’t recall them giving up more big plays than 4/3 defenses. I thought pressing the WR’s at the line was the way it’s supposed to be done (unless you were using the infamous bend-but-don’t-break). Can anybody name a good defensive team or coach who favors giving WR’s a 10 yard cushion? Was Lakatos burned for big plays at UConn? I doubt CTG would have hired him if that theory had any truth to it.

Grantham was the source of the quote about the secondary scheme being more risky, but with a higher reward. So I imagine he does believe it is true.

Am I the only person that has a hard time believing that “The U” has one of the 10 ten APR ratings in all of FBS football? I watched their spring game and was floored by some of the interviews on the side lines with some of the former players…

Judge Hofheinz, the mayor of Houston who pushed (some say built) the Astrodome, had a multi-level penthouse inside the dome with a view of the field. This was the late 60’s, so obviously before luxury suites and all of that, but not! Because that’s what it was: he could entertain while watching a game, hell, he could live there. He had a bedroom and everything. Then that a-hole Bud Adams wanted more seats for the Oilers and they tore it out along with the awesome scoreboard. I hate Bud Adams.
