In the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Where jurors will not be impressed with tales of hookers, yachts, mansions, and drugs.

No, they will be impressed and will move to protect their image and culture. In the end, it’s about the state of Miami vs the rest of the country. Most observers should have learned that 25 years ago.

However much the University of Miami takes its “national reputation” seriously, and they do, the Miami community does not get the least bit excited about “impermissible benefits,” especially of the hookers and drugs on yachts and in mansions sort.
So what a few (nearly 100) high school kids were plied with drugs and sex on a yacht. Aren’t they all? After all, this is Miami!
Add to the story that the source of the evidence is a convicted felon serving a twenty-year sentence for fraud, do not expect that the UM football team will take it like a bunch of Methodists from Texas.
Methodists everywhere were shocked to see the name of their denomination dragged through the mud like that in Texas.
Miamians for the most part wholly lack those scruples.
If anything good comes out of this sordid (in normal-thinking people’s minds) it’s that the SEC, even at its most expansion-mindedness, should see clearly that Miami would never be a proper fit with the balance of the SEC.
Besides, does anyone really believe Donna Shalala could put aside her obvious inherent superiority to deign to collegial equality with the president of, say, Mississippi State University?

Pretty much sums up the attitude of the U when Sheilds says Shapiro better hope he doesn’t run across any Miami fans in prison. I don’t have a clue how much of the story is true but I do know that with it being Miami my first thought when the yahoo report came out was ho hum, its Miami.

I live down here amongst them (as we would say in my native South Georgia), I perceive little sense of panic, much less outrage, in Coral Gables.
Y’all (I’m the only one hereabouts who regularly uses the proper second person plural) just don’t know how much of a non-story it is here that a bunch of athletes imbibed of drugs and hookers on a yacht. Don’t they all?
