Friday morning buffet

Plenty to sample…

  • Here’s a shocker“But as the College Football Playoff’s selection committee wrapped up two days of meetings at the Gaylord Texan on Thursday, it’s clear that objectivity is a sticking point as the college football season draws closer.”
  • Patrick Garbin tells us that over the last two decades, experience has nothing to do with the performance of Georgia’s offensive lines.  I think that’s supposed to relieve us.
  • For some reason, Vanderbilt has decided to move its home game against Ole Miss to the Titans’ stadium, which seats 68,798.  That seems like an invitation for OM fans to come fill the place up.
  • This doesn’t sound good:  “The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has opened an investigation of Florida State University into whether its handling of the Jameis Winston rape allegations violated Title IX laws…”
  • How would you like it if Finebaum hosted a live show from Sanford Stadium?
  • Texas paid $266,990 to a search firm to help find Charlie Strong.  I bet most of us would have offered to do the job for a tenth of that.
  • Here’s a look at how much of a role conversion rates and big play potential on both offense and defense as well as field position played in determining the last ten BCS champs.
  • Marc Weiszer takes stock of how Georgia’s new focus on special teams is going.
  • Tramel Terry, on life as a new defensive back:  “Each day it’s getting better and better. I’m just trying to get all the little terms and get them out on the field instead of thinking so much. Other than that I’m fine. I’ve just got to work hard in the summer time and get my feet right. I feel like I’ll be fine and be ready to play this year.”

“Winston was never interviewed by Tallahassee police or the state attorney. He refused to cooperate with FSU officials in the January meeting, according to Deadspin.”

If this is true, how does the state attorney make a decision not to prosecute?

Yep, this definitely does not bode well for FSU…

After careful and deliberate consideration, and looking at all points of view, the selection committee could still not resolve all issues concerning conflicts of interest, but were able to unanimously agree on one point…Georgia must not be allowed to play for the MNC.

Maybe it tells us that, at Georgia, OL mediocrity is not that hard to achieve.

FWIW, this is good to hear. No need to rule Terry out of the FS slot just because he’s coming kind of slow. A lot is new to him, and he has time this summer to ingrain his fundamentals so they become natural.

Then, he’ll be able to play and make plays. And we’ll get to see how competitive he is in Camp. Nothing slow about that track at all.

It’s interesting though, if not ironic, that we saw the opposite pattern with Matthews last year. So it’s much to early count Terry out of anything.

  5. Seriously…. you’d think these AD’s would have learned their lesson after O’Leary swindled ND, but alas – USF got swindled by Masiello a couple weeks ago and then this….

Korn/Ferry sent a follow-up e-mail to the office of university president Bill Powers, making sure the university did not require Korn/Ferry to “conduct employment reference checks or an education verification for Charlie Strong.”

Is it just me or does it seem Lilly does very little for his salary. He coaches tight ends, when we have some. He has been the unnamed but actual special teams coordinator since Fab left. This joint coordinator thing seems to be a nod to Mark’s old FSU buddy. See I didn’t fire him I just gave him some help from someone who actually knows something about special teams. I hope Lilly can at least recruit because if he can’t he is a total waste.

Based on those comments Lilly still doesn’t seem to hace the sense of urgency we need. I hope he gets a strong talk following that interview or I wouldnt expect a lit of change with his area of responsibility.

Agree. He seems pretty complacent with his job security. To paraphase: ‘We were damn good in 2010…’ My response would be we sucked in 2013, and he’s the assistant coach most fans would blame for the suckitude.
