I don’t think those are Phil Steele’s final rankings, just his own score he adds to his equation. The link doesn’t give the final rankings that take into account all the factors he lists I’m the story.

Haven’t looked up the others in his magazine but that 5.25 is exactly what he listed Sanford at this year so I think that is the current ranking he uses for his picks. As best I can remember, the others look right as well. Always thought the “standard 3 points” most people say is built into the bookies’ line should vary from as little as one to as much as 7, some places are just tougher. We are among the top group but there are a few places more intimidating and I think he nails them pretty well. Game time is a variable as well, especially for “big” games.

I’ve been saying this for years about UGA having a big home field advantage. Some, including you, Senator, have argued that CMR has such a good road record that home field means nothing for Georgia. Look at Steele’s numbers closely and you’ll see that UGA is only .25 out of a tie for first with the likes of Bama and LSU. So why don’t we have more home games? Auburn, for example, often has 8 in 1 season. McGarity? Anyone? Beuller?

Two reasons: Jacksonville, and an OOC rival that is a home/home setup. Unless we go to a home/home vs. UF or drop GT, UGA will always be at a disadvantage regarding the number of home games we can schedule.

True, and if we went home/home with UF we would have to play in G’ville every other year. I’d rather not drop gtu and get another terrible home game each year against Furman or Ga State. Those ranking seem pretty fluid to me. Let LSU or Bama lose a couple of home games in the next few seasons and suddenly they become “easier” places to play? I don’t think so.

Stoop’s right. Money triumphs all in the GM world. Wouldn’t it be nice for the fans to have 8 home games, though? Plus, think of the advantage that would give our football team. This clearly demonstrates that winning and the fans are secondary to $$ at B-M.

Should you truly want some disgust have a look at the ND schedule: only 3 TRUE “on the road” games —- the greedy Irishmen play Purdue in Indy; Syracuse in the N.J. swamplands; and Navy inside the Beltway. Yet another consequence of TV uber-influence.

Actually that is funny enough to think it was intentional. The use of the word “Trojan” in that sentence makes me think this it was the writer’s intent to emulate Lewis and Cocks Out headline and see if it pass editorial review (if they even have that any more). Must have been too early for me, missed it completely.

Never been to Oxford for a game, but in terms of SEC teams, Ole Miss’s low ranking for home field advantage tied at 69 is somewhat surprising to me. I mean – they got beat by Vandy.

I enjoy the atmosphere at Ole MIss. They have a great student section (better than Vandy). Maybe it’s record more than anything? It’s a bigger stadium than Vandy so could also be the sell-out factor

Went there for the last UGA game there, which was 12:30 EST/11:30am local time.
There was a fair number of tailgating tents which had been set up the night before but clearly not yet tailgated at — the big party is not at the stadium, or even the early tailgate, but instead the game after-party.
I was impressed by the scope of the tailgating (you should see the centerpieces the ladies put together for a mere tailgate), but the stadium crowd was nothing memorable at all

Vaught-Hemmingway has never been a loud or intimidating place. One problem is it only holds 60k, which is smaller than UVA’s Scott Field, for example (and Scott Field just ‘feels’ smallish to me compared to the big boy stadiums.) Another is that they have a lot of older fans, who aren’t exactly known for creating a lot of noise.

Raleigh, look at the way he builds the model. Having a large (by national standards) seating capacity and selling most all the tickets gets you to the top half. They play some cupcakes and keep their w/l record there respectable. Ole Miss is a great environment to attend a football game but it isn’t intimidating, the folks enjoy the party more than the contest, very social. I hope they never lose that atmosphere but some powerful folks will ruin that soon enough.

I like what Keith Marshall had to say about Ron Courson. From the testimonials of currrent and former injured and rehabbing players, Ron is simply the best in the business. He will also be the first to attend to an opposing player when an injury occurs on the GA side of the field. If I were the parent of a UGA player, I’d get no small comfort in knowing that Ron is only a few steps away. A tip of the cap to you, Ron Courson.
