Take a hike, son.

The genius sputters about the Roquan Smith signing.  And it’s pretty funny.

“I don’t see that going anywhere,” Johnson told the AJC. “I don’t think anybody is going to allow that. They (colleges) are going to tell kids that if they don’t want to sign their NLI then I’m going to the next kid. It would be chaos. It would be crazy. There would be no signing thing. It would just be nonstop year-round.

“… Some of the stories that I followed with the financial aid, there’s a lot of misinformation out there anyways. Because once you go to that school, you’re still bound to that school. You get around to the same rules as everybody else. What it does is make the recruiting process go longer, just like the academies (such as Army and Navy). They have that at the academies, and it’s ridiculous. You recruit all summer. The academies are different because they don’t have a set number of scholarships. You’re not trying to hit a target number.

“If you’re trying to hit 85, it would be chaos. Because nobody would have an idea of who is going where until school started. Guys would sign two or three different financial-aid agreements. You wouldn’t know if they were going to enroll here or there. You’d be disingenuous waiting on them. That would be chaos.”

Chaos, he tells ‘ya.  Chaos!  And Paul Johnson doesn’t do chaos, damn it.

The Tech coach was also asked this question: What would you have done if a players like quarterback Justin Thomas or the Austin twins had told you that they promised they were coming to your school but that they felt uncomfortable with signing an NLI?

“I would’ve went on to the next guy,” Johnson said.

Sure thing.  ‘Cause if there’s one thing we know about Georgia Tech recruiting, it’s that there are always plenty of four-star fish left in the sea if you have to toss one back on signing day.

As much as I dislike Fishfry, I have to sort of agree with him here.

Do you really think he will hold to that trigger? I don’t ,and as an example we need go no further than his big talk about a kid looking around after committing. That didn’t last past two kids telling him to kiss their royal asses before he…uh..”clarified ” himself.

Absolutely not, he’ll take the kid if he’s good and he will take him on the kid’s terms. I’m just saying I agree with the overall premise of what he’s saying. 4 and 5 star kids will be able to do what they want. The others will sign a NLI or the coaches WILL move on to the next kid.

His point about roster numbers and kids signing multiple financial aid papers is a legit point. I don’t like him and I don’t think he nor tech is going to have to worry too much about the issue. It’s not like a lot of highly recruited 5 stars are in the mix for tech.

Exactly what Cojones said. He will backtrack on this within a year.

Awesome. This made me laugh. Thanks.
Why would anyone talk to to ol’ Jawls? Much less about his opinion on football?

He may have a trouble accepting/adapting to change. He is correct that there is the potential for chaos…esp. when his players go to play at campuses where they have a beautiful campus and lots and lots of beautiful coeds.
How ya gonna keep ’em down on the farm, after they’e seen Parris ?

The nerve of these kids messing with Coach Johnson’s 7-figure salary. Don’t they know he is the boss? Errr…the educator? Wait….what is he again?

I’d love for the NCAA to find the altruism in CPJ’s ‘my way or the high way’ bravado….I mean, it’s for the kids, right?

Paul Johnson stating that he would have “went on to the next guy” in relation to a high ranked, ultimately undecided recruit, is akin to some average, middle aged guy with mediocre at best looks and no discernible jaw line boasting to his friends at a bar that he’s not going to wait around for that hot, 27 year old pharmaceutical sales chick to return his emails/calls.

    And if she by God doesn’t respond by this weekend, he’s done with her no matter what. {Then nods to himself in agreement, takes another swig of beer, gives his buddy a high five, and attempts a flirty conversation with the 45 year old waitress with quite a healthy muffin top}

Paul Johnson is indeed that guy.
