Gator trouble?

Because of the suspensions — losing your two best players on offense generally isn’t going to help — I didn’t expect Florida to beat Michigan yesterday.  It’s also why I’m hesitant to draw any big conclusions from how poorly the Gators played on offense.  But, damn, this isn’t pretty.

Florida got away with this over the past couple of seasons because of its stellar defense. What you have to wonder is how well things go if this year’s defense isn’t quite up to that standard.

Love to see it…but ain’t gonna get too carried away. My guess is, they will be ready for the Dawgs. Seems like they have beat the Dawgs with that kind of ‘O before. Nonetheless, great to that many suspended and a loss.

We haven’t matched up well against uf because our defense and offense have been mediocre the last three years. That allowed them to score just enough and to keep our scoring low. If we either play great d or better than average offense, uf’s winning formula goes away.

We need to be wary of teams that can stuff our run game and has a qb who can run and throw. Those are the teams that will give us trouble this year. We aren’t getting blown off the ball and no one is going to be able to chuck it around all day either. But a guy that can hit a high percentage and get cheap yards with his feet can be a problem if we’re also struggling to get the running game going. The good news is that I don’t see too many teams like that on the schedule.

Stidham didn’t impress me last night. It will be interesting to see how they do vs. Clemson.

Last year they beat us with this year’s 3rd string QB. Nuff said.

IMO, Florida has beaten us consistently with their defense. Their defensive line wreaks havoc on our O line, our QB’s throw into their usually tight, excellent pass coverage, the turnover parade begins, etc. This year, I don’t think their defense is as good; I don’t think they can dominate us physically. Hopefully, we can turn the tables on them and let our defense set the tone for the game.

  6. We are indeed in trouble. Maybe not as much as our OC and HC though

You have an OC? That in itself is surprising.

Just like Texas having terrible defense under Strong, Florida having a crappy offense under Beaver is mystifying.

Nussmeirer never seemed to have much of a Plan B at Alabama. His talent pool meant his Plan A would work most of the time, but he had some second halves at Alabama that bear a strong resemblance to entire Florida games.

Hard to draw conclusions from yesterday, though. Clearly a throw-away game for Florida, and they led in the 3rd with zero offense. Which makes the most amusing takes of the day the ones that focused on Michigan Domination.

Michigan dominated the game throughout, score at half very misleading. To see a Michigan offense slice and dice their defense was very encouraging for us, and 11 yards rushing? Dang, I know Scarlett was out but if our 4th or 5th team RB was in I would have expected 50-75. Indicator of an OL issue to me, that won’t help much against our front 7. But I didn’t watch all of the game (hurt my eyes to see both of those butt ugly unis) so I will wait to see them against TN to get an update. Certainly not their finest hour on a pretty big stage.

I’m wondering if Collins’s departure to Temple, combined with a decline in recruiting top talent, will bring fu’s defense back to the middle of the sec pack. I understnad fu’s defense scored twice yesterday. But they also got burned pretty bad at times.
