It’s official: Jacob Eason won’t face Notre Dame.
Quarterback Jacob Eason, who has started 13 straight games for Georgia, won’t play Saturday at Notre Dame due to the sprained left knee he sustained in the first quarter of the Bulldogs’ season-opening win.
Coach Kirby Smart said Monday that the sophomore has a sprained knee ligament but won’t need surgery and a full recovery is expected this season.
“Jacob will not play this week,” Smart said. “Jacob’s going to be week to week from this point forward.”
He said he’s not sure the length of time Eason will be out.
I’m glad it’s not serious… Eason’s knee, that is. Getting a true freshman quarterback ready for his first start in a road game on national television is damned serious.

Damn hate it for the kid. His father having played for ND would have been special. I always thought it would be a special game for him and his parents. Oh well the fates are fickle. Wonder if the NCAA will let him travel with the team since he is hurt?

Maybe Eason sticks around for his senior year to play the Irish in Athens. It’s more likely Fromm hangs on to the job and Eason transfers.

I haven’t figured this out yet. Does going 10-15 for less than 150 yards and a single TD, against App State, really empress people that much? Admittedly, I have not seen the game (I am out of the country right now), but I feel that perhaps a lot of fans need to adjust their expectations of just what another true freshman QB will be capable of.

Yes….completed 67% of his passes with a 169 QB rating. All this in about 3 qtrs play. “Games last year in which Georgia had 31 points entering the fourth quarter”…0. The team moves with him in there, they are energized.
If you can get the SECN, they are replaying the game. Turn the sound off though, Tuberfield is annoying.
Dawg speed to Eason, long season….gonna need him.

If he makes the same type of throws against a real defense he gets 3 INTs and maybe 1 TD, luck was more on his side than anything. With that said, I think Fromm has the tools to be a great QB, but he is still a FR

Are you asking how he knows that an SEC defense would have picked him off or how he knows Fromm has the tools to be great? I think observation of his performance against ASU provides evidence to the answer of whichever question you were asking.

Yes, I am assuming that Fromm will basically play the same in South Bend as he did in Athens. Sure the coaching staff is going to do everything possible to get him to not make those bad throws.

Do you really want to see him chuck wounded ducks 10 yards short of the receiver into triple coverage against a real defense?

To answer your question below. What I saw was a 6′ 4″ reciever that had 2 DB’s (probably 5′ 9″) behind him….and one defender in front, maybe 3-5 yards. Fromm threw it perfect, where ONLY the reciever could get it.
Was it skill or luck??? I mean really, WGAS?? …..It was a TD no matter how you look at it…they all count the same (luck/skill). Hope we are lucky next Saturday in South Bend…all day long.

He’s our only option currently, so we’re all pulling for the kid, but people are certainly going overboard convincing themselves this is an improvement.

Because he is a true freshman. This time last year he was deciding which pose looked best for his Senior pictures. Shit on Eason all you want but the kid has two off-seasons and a full SEC slate under his belt. Not to mention the arm strength difference is noticeable.
I hope Jake plays lights out and we roll down the field on every team we face until Eason is healthy again.
As much as some of you middle GA people like to think Houston Co football is equal to the SEC, it isn’t. i get you have watched him play for years and are excited about the future but the fact remains that Jacob Eason is the most experienced QB on our roster and will be the starter when he returns from injury

I’m sorry, you must have me confused with someone else. DGAS who starts, just produce….move the team. I have not seen our offense respond to a QB like they did last night in a few years. That is reason for excitement for me and I am sure for others. Don’t be offended because some are excited…or liked what they saw. I thought Fromm had a good game last night, looks to me like we have 2 good QB’s. As I mentioned above, dawg speed to Eason. We will be stronger when both are healthy.
FWIW, experience is not the only thing that matters (QB)…see last year (dawgs). I also believe that Bama had a freshman QB, SC had a freshman QB ….and others. To many to mention thru the years. Again, DGAS who starts…..just win!

I am not as worried about Fromm getting ready as I am with what we do if he gets hurt. Hopefully, Brice gets a little bit (lot?) of work this week. Maybe Stetson should, too. God speed, JE, we need you. Put your knee in Ron Courson’s hands and follow his instructions. Maybe Nick Chubb can lay hands on it.

The tragedy is that Eason needs game reps to toughen up for the SEC schedule and a game in South Bend would be great experience.

It’s funny how to some people on here, Appalachian State was a world beater before this past weekend. But now that Fromm played well and led Georgia to a comfortable victory, they are demoted to the world of cupcakes.
Personally, I feel more comfortable with Fromm going into next week than I do any other freshman quarterback in the nation. He has the work ethic and the brain to get it done.

I would rather have Eason healthy and playing well going into Saturday, but I agree, if we gotta do it with a true freshman then Fromm scares me a lot less than the average 18 year old.

Personally, I would feel more comfortable with a second year QB heading into this game. Obviously that’s not an option.
Mainly I just don’t understand why having an average game (except for that QBR!) makes eveyone suddenly jump on the Fromm bandwagon. What is it exactly that everyone hates about Eason so much? He played fairly well for most of last year with an underperforming OL and questionable play calling. He got a few attempts in one game this year and half of the fan base is ready to call him a bust?

App State is a good football team. They are big, Well coached and their QB is a baller. They had all offseason to prepare. It was a good win for the Dawgs.

Just in, from a really reliable source, I mean really reliable, Eason has already announced his transfer to a far Western team. He read all the fans comments and realized Fromm is the best QB, since Montana to ever play a college game. In hopes that he will not have to live in the shadow of Fromm will play for the Nome School of Musk Ox Theology and Technology. Stay tuned for further development. Wait here is one, he hurt his knee deliberately to get out from Fromm’s shadow.

Hate it for Eason. We need him to come back strong. Fromm should be okay, and hopefully he’ll protect the ball. I expect some turnovers, just hope we can overcome them.
Defense will need to be strong.

I hate to say it, and hope I’m wrong, but I’m pretty confident we’ll lose to ND. Kelly’s coaching for his job, and the Irish would love nothing more than to beat a respectable SEC team to get the ass-kicking from Bama off people’s minds. And as cool as Fromm seems under pressure, you can’t tell me he won’t be a little intimidated making his first start in a hostile environment against one of the most storied programs in college football. If we somehow pull this out, it’ll be because our defense was near-perfect, and Fromm didn’t make too many mistakes.
And while I’m playing Debbie Downer, speaking of Fromm: I really like the guy’s attitude and personality, and there’s no denying he’s talented, but the guy went 10-15 for <150 yards against App State, and threw several balls that absolutely shouldn’t have been thrown. Seems like we’re getting way ahead of ourselves with all this talk of him taking Eason’s job.
With our defense, Fromm doesn’t need to win the game Saturday. He just needs to not lose it. And I’m afraid all those hyping him as The Chosen One are going to be brought back down to earth this weekend.
But again: I hope I’m wrong.

Might be a blessing in disguise. Not at all convinced our OL is ready. ND will show us what we’ve got, Fromm runs for his life..errrr…moves better, and we have Eason rehabbing for SECe play in a few weeks when we need him most.
