Game day post, Samford edition

(Weiszer’s matchups to watch here.)

I can only think of two issues about today’s game.

The first is whether we’ll be treated to Nicholls, The Sequel.  Samford certainly has the resume for that.

1 Victory for Samford against an SEC opponent: The Bulldogs beat Ole Miss 7-6 on Oct. 20, 1934. Samford has a 1-34-1 record against SEC opponents. The Bulldogs tied Alabama 7-7 on Sept. 28, 1935. Since that tie, Samford has lost 30 consecutive games against SEC opponents. The Bulldogs visit Georgia on Saturday.

It’s hard to take Samford’s chances seriously today.  Add to that what would be an understandable emotional hangover after last week’s thrilling win in South Bend, and it’s not hart to extrapolate another struggle against a lower division squad.  I don’t think it’s gonna happen, but I’m not gonna lie and say I won’t be watching carefully to see if this team’s learned how it needs to approach every game.

Second issue:  does Georgia finally get off the under-40 points scored schneid?  The Dawgs haven’t cracked the forty-point barrier in a game since beating Southern 48-6. That happened on September 26, 2015.  I had to look it up, but, yes, that is currently the longest such active futility streak in the conference.  When you consider the production from some of the other SEC offenses, that’s pretty embarrassing.

That one, I’m not so sure about.

Consider this your invitation to a game day thread in the comments.

Wonder how many offensive sets we see today…thinks he needs to cull it down and work on perfecting what they may be good at. Hope I never see the “Wilddawg” again, that ain’t fooling anybody…everybody and their brother knows it is going to be a run. Would like to see the power I more, we have the backs for it.

Would also like to see Fromm get some freedom today (changing plays and etc). It could turn out to be an improvement versus Cheney.

That is what I feel too, let the offense do their thing. I feel like Chaney/Smart have their foot on us and won’t let us become what we are capable of. Whether you like, or have concerns about, Jake Fromm, he has shown he deserves to be given some rope. Let’s go fast throw the ball vertically and mix in the slants and seam routes. Stop interrupting the flow of the offense with the predictable Wild Dawg, I am sure we have a pass play off of that but it does us zero benefit as long as continue to butt our head into an 11 man wall. I have little confidence they will do that so I expect us to win easily, but look constipated doing so. Defense will lack the intensity of last week so I doubt UGA will cover the line this week. Most interesting part of this game will be seeing the young RBs get a chance to strut their stuff.

CKS isn’t going to run it up at least not with first teamers. If the second and third string guys do it, these guys are friends enough to where that will be ok.

I’d like to see the offense click in the first 20 minutes. Id like to see rhythm in the passing game and big gaping holes to run through.

  3. This will Not Happen but it would be neat to have the current
second string QB start the game for one series & 1 series only.
    Then back to the Bench.
After 5 years of being a DGD, the record would show that He
did start one game as a UGA Dawg. Nothing gained, nothing lost,

Would be cool to see Ramsey play eventually, but Fromm needs the game day experience for now imo. Would also like to see Stetson Bennett, dude has sprinters speed. I also believe he is 5th on all-time yards in passing (HS). More of a curiosity, I believe he can play…

One series would be a good idea, but starting him would be a disrespect of Samford, imo. If we have a good lead, he can start the second half. Starting the game with him would be the equivalent of hitting a home run in baseball, and then standing at home plate and admiring it.

Hopefully, the only reason to be under 40 points is that we have a comfortable lead early in the 3rd quarter, and Ramsey/Bennett/? get some live game snaps for practice. I’ll be very disappointed if Samford scores on the defense/special teams.

ND looks like a bag of shit. Instant and justifiable return to normal pessimism. BC, as in Boston College, just walked the dog with that defense.

First and goal from the 1 for UT after a penalty bailed them out…
      – First down, false start and then an incompletion.
      – Second down complete loss of 1 yard (although should’ve been offsides on Florida)
      -Third down interception.

Really, the most amazing part of it all was the fact that first and goal from the one, Tennessee was still in the shotgun. A QB under center raises all sorts of possibilities. A QB starting on the five, running back on the seven makes it a lot more difficult

This is necessary to make sure UF continues to haunt me in my nightmares. UF must win. We are better than both of these teams but will be fortunate to take 1 of 2. That’s my Debbie Dawg Downer take.

Let’s hope neither team changes QBs before we get to them. Butch must have nothing behind Dormady, or he would already be on the bench. Painful to watch.

Never mind my question above the refs just let UF get away with two holds to let them score. SEC must love them some Gayturds.

I don’t often pull for Florida. I’ll be honest, I pretty much never do.

But watch them rip the guts out of Tennessee fans that way is quite enjoyable.

Both teams’ offenses came alive late..but I think it’s because both defenses were gassed. Florida couldn’t tackle a small child.

For all of those who were downgrading our win at Notre Dame based on a couple of nice BC drives, note that ND scored 49 points today and rushed for over 500 yards.
