Great moments in execution

If you’re looking for the polar opposite of the precision teamwork leading to that Chubb touchdown run, look no further than this clip of what turned out to be a one-yard loss on a Florida passing play against Kentucky.  (Make sure you have the audio on, because the commentator’s tone of disgust will add to your viewing pleasure.)

As inept as that was, don’t lose sight of the fact that the Gators won that game to go 2-0 in the division and are still ranked in the top 25.  The SEC East is a bit of a mess this year, ain’t it?

…and it’s a good year for it. The Dawgs could use this time for momentum as they build a team for the future. By the time the East teams get new coaches and start to rebuild, UGA could be established as the king of the East, much like Bama is in the West. It’s getting exciting…

No doubt this is a badly blocked play by FU. But to make it a metaphor for the entire SEC East is a bit of a stretch. Vandy is 3-1, South Carolina is 3-1, UT is 3-1, UK is 3-1 (should be 4-0), FU is 2-1 (would be 3-1 except for the hurricane) and Georgia is 4-0. I think by the end of the season with a few cross-division wins the East may be showing it is better than a lot of people think.

Kind of having it both ways there, aren’t you, Mayor?

Caught with his hand clearly in the cookie jar. To be fair, he isn’t the only one of us that gets ahead of ourselves when making our points. Emotions, in both directions, are always high during the Fall.

I actually thought about that before I pressed the “post” button and wondered if you would catch that. 🙂

Let’s just take this whole season week by week. Observe what we’ve done last week and who we are playing against this week. Conversing over what happens in november and december is way out of balance……I’m enjoying being in the moment now…..GO DAWGS!

With apologies to John McKay, the great moment in execution would be if the Florida blockers were stood against a wall and shot.
I like the commentator’s analysis if the outside block. Lot of stuff packed in there.

      That guy was hilarious!

For those who don’t remember: John McKay was the coach of the expansion Tampa Bay Bucs that lost every game thier first season.

Reporter: what do you think about your offense’s execution?

      McKay: I’m all for it.

      His qb? Steve Spurrier.

My favorite was when his punt returner broke away and was running out in the open for a easy TD on one of his horrid early Bucs teams. Suddenly, he trips over his own feet and faceplants into the turf. Without blinking an eye, McKay turns to an assistant and said, “my God…someone shot him.”

Another involved his kicker who was afraid of him and always seemed to miss anytime John watched him in practice. Finally, an assistant went over to coach McKay and told him the kicker got nervous when he watched him. John said, “well tell him he better get over his fears real quick, cause I plan on attending all the games.”

As I have said before, what’s new? The East has been very bad for almost a decade now. You could argue that the 2012 UGA team has been the only decent team to come out of the East since 2008 or so. It’s a pathetic division, but that can’t be a recent discovery, can it?

    • Both 2013 Missouri and 2014 Georgia (despite blowing the division) were legitimately awesome teams, but yeah…it’s been a bunch of meh since Tebow graduated.

Hardly legitimately awesome team. Lost to garbage South Carolina and then blew the division by losing to an awful Florida team. Then to cap off the season lost in OT to Tech. Bleh. That 2014 GA/FL game still gets under my skin.

2014 was the ultimate example of Mark Richt’s teams at Georgia. We lost to three bad teams in ugly ways, didn’t win anything at all that mattered but still managed 10 wins and a lot of the fans acted like we won a national championship because we won 10 games. Under Richt, 10 wins became the new undefeated.

The East has been weak as water since Tebow left UF. It’s high time Georgia took advantage of it.

        • They absolutely blew the division, but they were like one of four teams that had 5 games or more at the 90th percentile per S&P+ that season. They played incredibly well for most of the season, but clearly had brain farts at the worst possible times.

The ’14 team lost the WLOCP because the best center in the SEC got injured and the interior of the OL became a sieve. They lost the Tech game because CMR called for a pooch kickoff at the end of the game then called a timeout so Tech could calmly set up for a game tying field goal. They lost to USCe because after recovering a fumble that should have led to the winning TD Bobo or Richt called a passing play and the QB got called for grounding. If they had just handed the ball to the best RB in football UGA would have scored the winning TD. That team was great. The coaches were shitty.

Gators made some good blocks there..blocks in the back. I hope the refs have their eyeballs in their heads when we get to JAX.

Everybody wants to talk about how bad Tennessee and Florida are, but Florida doesn’t have an SEC loss, and Tennessee’s only loss is to Florida. Georgia has 1 SEC win against a lesser team from the West.

Regardless of how sloppy our competition has looked to date, this sets up exactly like most of the last 25 years. Georgia has got to take care of business or Clint Stoerner is going to fumble us out of the SEC Championship game.

Like I said earlier in the season, if they get by the first two SEC teams, the believing starts.

How many of you view this broke-up play by FU/Ken and believe their bad plays won’t begin to disappear before we meet either team? I see one timid hand hesitantly going up in the back. Thought so. If you want to delude yourself as to the rest of our schedule then have at it, but me and mine are going into each game with upset now in the back of our minds and if you don’t feel that hot anti-Red and Black on the back of your neck, you ain’t in the world of UGA football and the SEC East, Land of the Lost SECCG.
