Run the damned quarterback, Kirby.

In a shocking development, Georgia’s head coach spurns the advice of numerous online roster advisors and plans to use practice to evaluate which of Eason or Fromm should start.

I don’t know if we can trust a head coach with judgment like that, to be honest with you.

I trust you, Kirby! My mouth is bright red from all the Kool Aid. Keep up the good work. Honestly if he started Stetson Bennett next week I wouldn’t bat an eye.

It could also just be choice words from Kirby to motivate Eason. If Kirby says “Fromm is our starter” Eason may not be motivated as much to bust it in practice. However, if Kirby says “practice will determine the starting QB (even if in his mind Fromm is the starter until he (Fromm) proves otherwise)” Eason will be motivated to work hard and improve. That’s my take on it.

I’d be shocked if Fromm’s first rough outing wasn’t tied to the fact that it was the first time Eason was cleared to play.

Play them both over the next 2 weeks and let it sort itself out. I do hope that Eason clearly wins the job. Even if Justin signs up we’re too thin to be running anyone off.

I agree, although I don’t care which player wins the job. Practice and game play will identify the starter after the bur week. We will learn what Eason is made of, too. If he wants the job, he will go get it.

I only care in the depth chart sense.

I do think that Eason at the top of his game gives us a better chance to slay the beast in Tuscaloosa. We can dream of throwing it 12 times and beating them with defense, running backs and special teams, but that’s probably really dreaming. LSU did it once in that 9-6 game but pretty much everyone else has had to rely on QB play to get that one done and even that’s a short list. The way Bama is scoring this year, you’d better be ready for a track meet.

No argument. If Eason wins back the job, it will be because he rose up and produced. If he doesn’t, its only because he didn’t fight for it. He has more arrows in his quiver.

AND, if Eason does win his job back, we have an experienced back up now. The experience in these past games for Fromm are invaluable for the team. I hope that if Eason starts again we continue to let Fromm have some PT. All this and still undefeated. We could have gain this depth at the cost of a couple of wins. I’m just happy right now.

Tied to the crowd noise imo, go back and watch him run to the OL and the RB behind him (audible)…especially the 1st qtr, his toughest. If you have never been there, that is ONE LOUD place. The loudest by far that I have ever been to. Sometimes you can’t even hear the person next to you.

  5. Why am I beginning to feel like some of the opinions regarding Eason vs Fromm that are being floating around here, are partially tied to a person who’s last name starts with an R and who currently lives on a beach.

eh, I think you have some who see the hot hand from in-state and want to ride him. I think you have others who think Eason was likely to be better this year than last year, and last year was not terrible for a true freshman. Then you have folks who trust in Kirby to inerrantly make the right call.

In other words, it’s a sports discussion based on our ability to arm chair quarterback. which means we’re all wasting ink as we have no knowledge or of insight into what will happen next.

Me? I think Eason has a higher ceiling, likely a higher floor, but Fromm is 5-0, so…

Wow, there is no end to the hate of this group who live in the past so much they are clueless about what the current situation is, and have no ability to look forward. Life just goes over the head of these folks. No one cares, or even remembers who recruited who. But some live for the moment to bring back their heyday when it was more important for them to get their way than UGA to succeed. Yeah, that was memorable….and pretty damn pathetic. Some of those folks can never get out of the shit hole they live in, everyone else has moved on. This one wan’t the worst, but he was/is pretty obsessed.

      • This was the best comeback you could think of after I busted you out for lying about having shot golf with Spurrier? Thanks for the laugh. BTW, who are you imagining playing with tomorrow? Inquiring minds want to know.

You are consistently wrong, and how can you dare call me a liar? You don’t know me at fricking all. Why would you say something so irresponsible? Say you have doubts, but saying you called me out for lying, when you have no idea what you are saying makes you think you have accomplished something. Craziness, and pretty low class on your point. You don’t “shoot” golf, so I never did that with him. But I have played with 5-6 times, had dinner with he and Geri a couple of times, and sat having a few beers with him. That all included many conversations, about many subjects.

Just so you don’t get confused and go off the ledge, Steve is way, way down the list of recognizable celebrities and/or athletes you would recognize that I have known for a long time. Doesn’t make me any better than anyone else, but it does mean I have a better perspective than most, and have some great stories. So stick to what you know, or at least state it is your uninformed opinion. Only one of us is guessing here, and you lost.

FOOL! The spring practice QBR’s is the only safe way to make such a decision.

In confusing and complicated situations like this, I turn to Mr. CFB for analysis. Tony says: “Kirby will need to decide who his starting QB will be for Vandy. Will make determination after seeing this week’s practice.”

I paid the $9.99 / mo subscription fee for that. You’re welcome.

I am just happy we have two viable QBs. Practice hard guys, and make each other better. It’s a team game.

  9. We should be in good shape regardless of who starts/plays up until Florida. Just need to get it kind of settled by then.
I agree with Derek’s comments above- will be interesting to see if Eason is able to take the next step.

I agree. Florida will be the next true test and we know they have the athletes (with 2 weeks to prepare) to challenge what we’ve been doing offensively.

I think Fromm continues to start, but Eason has to get some game minutes. Those minutes should take care of themselves the next two games.Jake is only a play away from being where Jacob was vs App State, so we need both of these guys playing at a high level.

Agreed. It would seem the schedule is our friend the next couple of weeks, allowing Kirby to give both Fromm and Eason some productive game minutes. Although I do believe Vandy will prove a more formidable opponent than Tennessee.

We need both playing at the top of their games to win out, so let them both play meaningful minutes against Vandy and Missouri.

I hear it said often that playing two QBs is not good for team chemistry but I agree with you. I would like to see both get quality minutes for as long as it works.

Normally I agree with the team chemistry argument, but this team seems almost immune to it. I think it’s the shut-down defense we have. Even Chubb mentioned how the defense has taken the pressure off the offense. Let’s take advantage of that and get Eason back in peak playing shape while helping Fromm continue to progress. I think this is a team that could play and win with two QBs.

I’m glad Eason is ok and is now cleared to play. I’m also glad the QB position has competition again… But I don’t think Fromm losses the job at this point unless he gets injured this week in practice. You don’t fold a hot hand, you double down.

Fromm is a gamer and has made some plays but 150 ypg passing is not all that hot and more importantly, will not get us to where we want to go.

Eason should be afforded a unbiased shot at winning the starting job back in practice. That is a pretty sober position, that doesn’t need an explanation beyond ‘upside’. But its also testament to the fact that Alabama is now living in our head, rent free. We’ve been Alabama East for two weeks and were sick of it. We can’t leave the prospect of a differentiating offensive attack on the table. Not with ‘Bama between us and greater glory.

  15. Let me get this straight.

After spring/summer practice, Eason won the starting job.

He gets hurt, and Fromm comes in.

The freshman does a good job not losing games. We win primarily through defense and running game, with our QB throwing ~10-15 passes a game.

And people are seriously calling that “riding the hot hand”? If Fromm was slinging it 30 times a game for 300-350+ yards and 3-4 tds a game, sure. But we are winning with defense, running, and special teams and a freshman QB being smart enough not to lose the game (which is wonderful).

But we are not going to win the SEC or a huge bowl game that way most likely. And even if we could, it would be even easier with a QB who can sling it 30+ times for 300+ yards if we need it.

UnlessC CKS truly thinks Fromm is better than Eason, we should be excited to see Eason’s return. That makes us a much more well rounded team.

Apparently Fromm has “it”. Kid is awesome and I’m happy for him to take his opportunity and it must be completely awesome to realize his dream. People think he has some kind of moxy that just makes the team perform out of their minds. I think you’re right in that Eason is going to round out the team but he doesn’t seem to have the moxy.

muckbeast, you are a f***ing genius. If we want to beat Bama, Eason better be able to win back his job. Or Fromm grow by leaps and bounds over where he’s at now.
