Might as well get used to it, peeps. The “Georgia in the CFP” speculation is rising. Nate Silver has the Dawgs sniffing at the edges; Jerry Palm has them in.
If Georgia travels to Jacksonville toting a 7-0 record, it’s only going to get louder.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
Don’t jinx us!!! Beat the Gators!!! If not now, when? I’ll hang up and listen.

I don’t get it???? Win the SECCG we’re in. Don’t and we’re out. What am I missing?

You make it sound so easy.

No Sir. Just don’t see the point of all the speculation on it, but I guess sports writers gotta eat too.

This may be the ultimate Kool-Aid comment, but I’m convinced that I we get to the SEC Championship game undefeated and lose to Bama by a TD or less, we’re in anyway. Especially if ND only has one loss.

Now that is a subject I would like to hear discussed, albeit it’s all speculation too, but I find it more interesting (read: plausible. I just don’t see us being able to run with Bama for 4 quarters)

If we dominate the regular season like ‘Bama tends to do to its opponents, then yes… we have a shot, but I don’t think we’re guaranteed. We’ll see.

That will wholly depend on what the rest of the field looks like. Other one loss conference champs surely would get in over us, even if we look competitive against Bama.

Not happening….with UGA or Bama…loser is out…

Only way I see two SEC teams in is if Auburn wins out, hands Alabama and Georgia their only losses, then loses to Georgia in Atlanta. I think both Georgia and Bama would get in.

Saban’s whining will be epic if they lose to AU and don’t make ATL……I say they are shut out at that point.

Why?
I get that this could happen. But why should it? It shouldn’t! If team A beats team B, then we know team A is better. Why would we need to prove that all over again? Let’s see if teams C, D, and E who haven’t had that crack can do it.
What’s the point of the playoff if there are teams in it who’ve already played each other? We know who is better already. Let’s move on!
(And yes, I am that guy who thinks wildcards in baseball is the stupidest thing imaginable. I actually think playoffs in baseball are pretty damn stupid. 160-odd games and you don’t know who the best two teams are? Please. That said, Go Astros!)

You’re missing nothing, some of the folks here have no idea how this works. A 1 loss ND is actually a detriment to any conference championship game loser getting into the playoff…add to the fact that they have yet to take a championship game loser, and there you go. 1 loss or better SECCG WINNER is basically assured of being into said playoff. 1 or 2 loss loser of said game is basically a group of 6 Bowl guarantee…

Respectfully disagree since SECCG loser almost always goes to Capital One bowl. Especially if Aubarn or Jorts U has a similar record and misses the SECCG.

SECCG loser as of late has barely been ranked in the top 15…not the case so far with UGA.

Better to not even make it. (tOSU in ’16, UF in ’12 — would’ve been in had CFP existed)

The mandate to the committee is to put the best 4 teams into the CFB. Any objective observer who would put another team over a 1-loss (again, must be a close, down-to-the-wire type loss) UGA squad is basically running a rogue agenda and not following the simple mandate.

We are going to need to beat Auburn, too.

No mystery here.
Georgia has to get to ATL and beat Alabama to get in.
If Georgia scores 10,000 points to 0 against the rest of the schedule and doesn’t beat Alabama, they go to an ordinary bowl game.
The reason…The SEC East will be Dawgraded to the point that one would swear a second string HS Junior Varsity could have won it.
If anyone thinks Herbie and his ilk will sit idly by and see a one loss ND team, or any team from outside the SEC with one loss, not get in before Georgia, you’re in for a rude awakening.
No it’s not right, but that’s almost certainly the way it will be.

I’ll make one caveat..Alabama has nothing to do with it. Get to ATL and win.

Undefeated Georgia beats 1-loss Auburn. 1-loss Auburn upsets undefeated Alabama in the Iron Bowl. Undefeated Georgia beats 1-loss Auburn again in the SECCG. Undefeated Georgia goes to playoff along with 1-loss Alabama. Undefeated Georgia beats Oklahoma in the first round. 1-loss Alabama beats Clemson in the first round. Undefeated Georgia beats 1-loss Alabama for the national championship.
There. It’s all sorted out for everyone. No more need for any speculation.*

My thoughts exactly.
This season is still quite capable of being 9-3 with a loss to Miami in the Outback Bowl.

You know the powers that be are dying for Georgia to play Miami in a bowl game. I hope we do not give them the opportunity this year.

One of the bowl projections has Georgia and Miami playing in the Orange Bowl. The AD will volunteer us to take a slot in the TaxSlayer Bowl to avoid that.

I’d be fine with playing them in the Semi’s in NOLA.

For the most part, PTC, me too..but not without some reservations which, though small are capable of expansion the second we throw a pic, fumble, or take a deep three and out followed by a shanked punt, or a season ending injury or a slew of off field stumbles. But right now, I’m all opti.

There he is – “Self-Hating Dawgphan”!
Gave up in Kirby 2 weeks into last year and “wouldn’t piss on most Dawg fans if they were on fire”, said just last week.
What a loser.

I don’t read the article to mean Palm is picking the Dawgs to be “in.” It seems to be more of a poll. The video clearly has the Dawgs not “in” at the end. Interestingly, Palm has Wazzu higher than Washington. Hmmmmm.

As he should. Wazzou has beaten a ranked opponent. Washington hasn’t beaten anyone.
