“Oh yeah, I think he would in a heartbeat.”

I don’t want Booch out of Knoxville, but if this were the consequence of his being canned, I could definitely live with the trade off.  (Especially because it’s 50/50 he’d bolt Tennessee again if given the opportunity.)

Coach O could be available after next season to get the Wild Boyz back together.

Whether it’s Knoxville or somewhere else, no question he’s not going to stay at FAU very long. Which is why I was surprised they ever hired him. He would either be a complete disaster or have enough success early on that some desperate program would hire him away. Something tells me UT won’t bite again, though.

What do you have to do to burn a bridge in Knoxville?

Yes, please. I’ll have that. One more year of Kiffin, and then- no, let’s try Barbara Dooley straight up this time (no middle man), then Butch- lots more Butch. Then Kiffin again. After that, I don’t care.

they could do a HELL of a lot worse than Les. I mean, why not? UT has to recruit nationally, more so than most SEC programs, simply due to the limited supply of HS talent in that state. Miles brings instant name recognition everywhere he goes and he’s been through the SEC wars. I get why he was let go at LSU but UT would kill to have the kind of consistency he had there and, quite frankly, it was in a tougher division.

UT like UGA is not looking for consistency.

I get it, but once UT goes through their top candidates (Gruden, Ditka, The Bear, etc.), they will be looking at probably hiring someone like Kiffin. Would you hire Miles or Kiffin?

I’m sure there are some younger coaches with more upside (guys like Brohm at Purdue, Brown at Troy, etc.) but they’re still big gambles when you’re talking about taking over at a place like UT.

Why no one mentions Mike Bobo in these opportunities is beyond me. He is a proven offensive mind and a recruiting master in Georgia and beyond. He has done well at CSU and will recruit the southeast very well.

We need Bobo for bench strength in case Kirby sprains his brain against Florida or Tech again.

Where do the Bobo fans come up with the myth about how well he’s done at CSU? He just scraped by Nevada by 2 points. Nevada. I live in Reno. I can tell you firsthand they are TERRIBLE. He might end up doing alright but he’s yet to match McElwain’s best season there. The only people I ever hear suggest Bobo’s name in these vacancies are Georgia fans. He’s going to have to prove something before he gets a look from a big program.

The Jim Chaney vs. Willie Martinez ‘Beyond Crompton’ mismatch.

Our current staff already has Lane figured out. Bring him on.

Kiffin on ESPNU/satellite radio Thursday mornings with Zarzar & McElroy. He’s actually pretty funny….loves to poke the bear (Saban).

Did they ever change Knox’s name? Monte (Redacted) Kiffin?

On WSLS’s talk with Sallee, he suggested Mullen or Bobo for UT.

It’s going to kill me seeing Bobo anywhere, but I also wonder if Petrino ends up back in the SEC anytime soon.

Mullen would be a smart pick for UT. He is a proven HC who would do well with UT’s resources and tradition. He already is in the SEC and knows how to recruit in the south particularly Florida.

It should be pointed out that Fulmer is sorta, kinda involved in this decision making process. Phil is the sports czar up there or something official like that. He has a voice.

The one name I have heard consistently from the folks who avoid me in the grocery store is…are you ready for this???? Former record-keeping Vol quarterback Jim Bob Cooter.

Yep, that’s right Jim Bob Cooter.

Ole Jim Bob is Matt Stafford’s offensive coordinator in Detroit.

    Really, Jim Bob Cooter.

What would be hilarious is if UT actually kept Butch around another season. UT fans havent even considered this nightmare…

My brain, while reading the linked article:

“This is more about Kiffin than it is about UT. This isn’t a thing. Tennessee would have to be so …”

Then, realizing whatever I chose to finish that sentence with — shameless, desperate, stupid, beyond-all-hope, etc. — Tennessee absolutely is:

“My God, this is a thing.”

I think it will be Tee Martin. He is currently the OC at USCw and apparently a heck of one. He would be the hero of their NC come home to rescue the Vols.

  17. Scott Satterfield would make a lot of sense. Unfortunately, Tennessee views themselves as a Lexus instead of the Accord they really are.

Tennessee rehiring Kiffin seems far fetched if they value their own dignity. Plus, after what Kiffin did to us in 09 with Crompton, I don’t really want to see him in K’Ville again. If they fire Butch I might troll their messages boards and try to get some hype built up around a Mike Bobo hire. Seems like the safer option IMO.
