“We’ve got a long way to go to get better.”

Is it just me, or Kirby seem to put out the usual caveats about yesterday’s scrimmage a bit by rote?  Because it sure seems like he’s pretty pleased — and by that I mean more so than in the past — with how things are going.

Seems like the poor mouthing in the press about older guys not stepping up was meant as motivation, as most people figured. One of the writers on Dawgnation was trying to make a big deal about it saying Kirby’s worst fears were coming to fruition basically(that’s my take, I don’t think this guy knows fruition from a fruit rollup).

I agree. I watched that and thought, “man he sure seems positive compared to last year.”

3rd full offseason of the Composure/Physicality mantra, plus a massive influx of talent.

These are the glory days. Enjoy, y’all.

I read three stories by differing authors about that practice. Only one came up with the accolades as being the gist of what Smart spoke or meant in their interpretations. That’s the one I read first and believed while drinking a hefty cup of Kool-Aid. Later, after reading several takes on the practice, the accolades piece was part of three observations made by Smart, but by then other writers had picked up and ran with the Kool-Aid statement.

The new beat writer at Dawgnation looks like he might be a bit of a pot stirrer. Particularly with clickbait headlines that aren’t really backed up in the story. Last week he was all about how Georgia needed a “bell cow” RB and then how Kirby’s worst nightmare was coming true with his critism of Lecounte and other returning players.

Yep–new guy is a clown. Did you see the one with an “Analysis” headline that turned out just to be some quotes from Terry Godwin?

Feel bad for them. I watched Kirby presser. Lasted 20 minutes. First 10 was questions about WR being granted waiver. So 3 beat writers had to crank out three columns each on a 10 min presser. I feel sorry for the group really.

  8. Yup… Read the same crap and have already filed it away… He’s on a short string. One or two of those and I’ll just ignore his stuff… With the group; the talent and depth is starting to stack up. He can see it coming around. And lots of positive comments of how close this unit is… Dawgs are going to be just fine…

Yeah I don’t like the guy’s writing either. This is pretty much where I get my UGA football news.

It is a very short distance to just get better, but it may be a long way to get where you want. I don’t think Kirby believes we are a long way from where he wants, but coaches should always want some improvement. Fron all I have heard, he cannot be too unhappy with this as a first scrimmage. The offense is stacked, and reports indicate they looked crisp, from the OL to the RBs, to the QBs, to the receivers, all looked sharp and hungry to earn playing time.

The defense looked good up front, the DBs got beat on some plays but not too bad considering they were up against one of the best offenses in the country. Not a huge fall off from the 1s to the 2s, at any position, except maybe at CB. When the coach points to an area of concern being the punter outkicking the coverage, things aren’t too bad.

Everyone seems to agree about the names that stood out: Fromm, Holyfield, Landers, I. Wilson, Hardeman, and Cook on offense, Ledbetter, Cox, Hayes, Campbell, and Reed on defense. There was little cause for any concern, just stay healthy and tighten things up. No major injuries was the part of KS’s report I liked the best, although a hamstring and groin pull is not something that brings comfort; we have seen those linger for months in the past. Don’t know about you guys but 150 snaps in the August heat seems pretty aggressive to me. Can tell we have great depth to do that, also says the guys showed up in good shape.

It’s broken? Kirby said he had a foot injury that didn’t seem like anything major.
