No doubt Pittman has worked his magic. But I’d hazard a guess we also attempted the fewest passes in the SEC as well though I’m too lazy to look it up and confirm that

Is it just me, or we’re our jerseys/hats a darker red in the late 80s. I know that pic is w led lighting, but still.

Well, much to my wife’s chagrin, I still have my hat and some t-shirts from 1980 and the red is the same shade as the stuff I get now.

  3. Yep, everyone will point to the running game and the scheme’s – which is fair. As Georgia opens it up this year, teams will be forced to come up and blitz more. I expect to see more big plays out of the passing game from this offense, since maybe Georgia started playing football. If Georgia averages less than 42 a game, I’ll be shocked. If they average close to 50 – I wouldn’t be surprised. Even when Kirby calls off the Dawgs, the Dawgs he replaces them with our ridiculously talented…

No way we average more than 30 passes a game. None. This team’s identity is going to be lining up, telling you we’re going to RTDB and saying “you’re helpless to stop it.” Why? Because that’s how you set yourself up to beat the bully in T-town. You may throw it over 40 times in that game because you have to throw to open running lanes vs. Bama. No one has just blown Bama back in the last 10 seasons. That would be nice but it’s likely not possible.

Who I hope is throwing a lot more in 2018 are our opponents. That means we’ve got a lead and we’ve convinced our opponents that running is not a credible option.

You’re right, but 30 passes a game would practically be an air raid scheme compared to last season.

I really hope little changes. I really do.

The two times it kinda bit us that we weren’t great at being a pass first offense was the second halves of the 2 losses.

Hard to know how much of that was reps and how much was true freshman QB. Frankly, I hope we don’t have to find out if 11 can bring us back or throw to move the chains, but its likely that we’ll have to find out at some point.

I’d like to think that we’ll be good enough in the passing game that defenses just have to play vanilla to survive. Load the box and get beat. Protect your corners and we run for days. Every move for the opposing DC is detected and goes horribly wrong for them.

Fromm was generally good on passing downs. He was even good against Bama for two and a half quarters.

              No doubt.

The overall numbers for Fromm are fine vs. a D like that. The offensive production after the long Mecole TD pass were just atrocious.

From 6:52 left in the 3rd:

Fromm was 2 of 6 for 20 yards and a pick.

We ran the ball 16 times for 23 yards (includes sacks),

That’s just a really bad quarter and a half on offense: 22 plays for 43 yards.

              Gotta get better up front.

The playcalling was hyperconservative after Fromm’s pick, too. Until it couldn’t be after Bama tied it. I still wonder what might have been if he’d hit that out to Swift on third down before the Bama missed field goal drive. It had a chance to break if Swift could have made the first man miss.

My view is that when you’re getting man handled up front play calling is secondary. We just had to hold up vs. their front and instead they were getting rag-dollled. We’ve got to get better guard play by the end of the season.

  4. Pittman did a great job last year. It would be interesting to see that stat as a percentage of the number of attempts as Jim mentions above. Having a QB make quick decisions also helps that stat, so Chaney should get some credit for having Fromm ready to play.

  5. I, for one, welcome our new Golden God overlord. I would like to remind him as a trusted web blog commenter, I could be helpful in publicly admiring the behemoths he brings in to toil in Stanford Stadium wall of Bulldawg mammoths.

I’d bet Pittman and Chaney are thanking their lucky stars we landed Fromm. I’m not sure any freshman QB in cfb history had a greater trial-by-fire than Fromm did. And he came through with flying colors. It’s the reason I feel the O will be formidable, whether we run/pass equally, pass 75% of the time, or run 75% of the time.

It’s incredible to think how loaded we are at every offensive position. We easily have the talent to field two separate starting offenses – either of which could win the division!

Interested in which teams that you think our second team could beat.

well, clearly not South Carolina, since a lot of experts don’t think our FIRST team can beat the legendary squad from Chikville.

        Our second team offense? Fields: 5-star, Ridley/DRob: 4 & 5-stars, Holyfield/White: 4 & 5-stars, Woerner: 4-star, Mays: 5-star, Salyer/Hill/Hayes: 4-stars, Kindley: veteran 3-star.

Is there another team in the division with this many studs on their 1ST team? Sure, there’s some youth. But the offensive talent to win a division title is unquestionably there.

Terrible to see Isaiah Wynn go down with a torn Achilles last night. Out for the season.
