VERY interesting nugget from @Brett_McMurphy just now with us on our show on @SIRIUSXM.
He hinted that there was likely even more information to drop regarding this Ohio State investigation. https://t.co/gqZ9qzAK9U

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
To me, this is the biggest x-factor in all of this. What if OSU doles out a token punishment (Time served or maybe no cupcakes for dessert) and then Bret McM drops another bomb? OSU will look even worse (Is that possible?) and will have no choice but to move swiftly and decisively on Corch. Personally I’m pulling for Brett McM and hope he is saving the best for last

Gawd I would love to see it play out that way.

Is this about a woman’s abuse or a dog chasing meat ? Yall have me confused. Quick, what’s the wayward couple’s names again ?

You’re right. It’s not like Urban abused the woman. He just kept, rehired, and then lied about the repeated abuse. Completely different thing.

Courtney and Zach Smith.
This part of the story, and Bluto’s post, were about OSU, Murphy, and how potential additional bombs could impact “how you would prefer to coddle Corch”. Yes, the original case is about physical abuse. But, the current discussion is about OSU, a reporter, and Corch.
If you wish to have a conversation about the evils Zach apparently committed and the overall evils of physical abuse I will certainly be willing to participate and would wager that our views would be quite similar.
I can separate the two issues, apparently you can’t. Sorry you got your feelings hurt.

Just like auburn, osu is All in. It doesn’t matter what Brett has. Sad.

I’ve said this since day one. tOSU isn’t going to fire Meyer. The “investigation” has been an exercise in coming up with an acceptable way to justify keeping Meyer. The AD, Meyer’s wife or some underling will be sacrificed to appease the PC #metoo crowd but Meyer isn’t going anywhere.

Yep. Ohio State easily calls his bluff on this one.

Uh huh. The two week investigation was probably devoted to finding out everything that Brett McMurphy knows and could already prove. The rest of it was spent destroying evidence, sealing records, and crafting stories…so that the rest of the story always remained “in house.”

Yup. Nixon should have destroyed those tapes.

Would a reasonable CYA move be for the OSU investigators to call McMurphy and ask for anything else he has to share before they make a decision?
Obviously he doesn’t have to share but if he drops some bomb afterwards they can say they made the effort and/or ding his credibility.

Harold, are you saying the likes of Baylor, OSU, MSU, and FSU don’t deserve to be called out for enabling violence against women?

Brett McMurphy right now:
Now I know what you’re thinking. “Did he fire six shots, or only five?” Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off – you’ve gotta ask yourself one question – “do I feel lucky?” Well do ya, punk?

If Ol’ Urban knows a lot more than he is letting on and it is clear he lied and they tried to hide it – it WILL come out. It ALWAYS comes out. There is part of me that hopes they are STUPID enough to try and hide some things. They forget – they may be calculating that they’ll get sued by the ‘ex’ and will settle with a BIG payment, but with a confidentially agreement. Now that wouldn’t surprise me one bit…

Meh. It ALWAYS comes out in the movies….not in real life. The only thing that always comes out is the stuff that comes out. And it ain’t everything. OSU knows this first hand. Almost a decade since Tressel left and there are plenty of skeletons that are still nicely packed away in that closet.

Hurricane Brett may ravage Columbus after all of this is done. It definitely feels like the eye is passing over before the backside winds devastate whatever is left over.

Throughout all this I’ve been thinking that the suits at the WWL must be saying, “How in the hell did we decide to fire McMurphy?!?”

I doubt it. They looked at the bottom line and into their souls and they’re OK with it.

I think OSU keeps him with a slap on the wrist. If more comes up they will fire Meyer and claim he lied in the investigation. It’s there only move until they see what Brett has.

Nail em to the wall Brett! It looks like they want to try to give Meyer space to wiggle out of this. Also, ESPN looks really stupid for laying off Brett while paying through the nose for the likes of Stephen A.

If I’m a young, intrepid reporter, I set up camp in Columbus and I start investigating EVERY assistant coach with a fine tooth comb. Considering the mountain of information that McMurphy was able to dig up on Smith….that Meyer was supposedly unaware about (DUI, sex with staffers, sex toys to office, etc), this could be a gold mine.
This is always the bind when choosing the “I didn’t know” avenue as an excuse. Either (1) Urban Meyer doesn’t know shit about his employees or what they are doing in his football offices or how they are representing his school…OR (2) Urban Meyer knows, enables, lies, and covers up….and lies some more.
Of course, I’m pretty confident we’re dealing with (2), but if the official OSU story is going to be (1), someone should take them for their word for it and find out what else is going on in Columbus.

How does (1) not equal “lack of institutional control?” Isn’t that usually a killer?
LikeLike
Naw. Lack of institutional control is if you pay a player’s parking ticket. This is only about beating women and banging staffers in your office.

“Lack of institutional control” is an NCAA construct…relating to NCAA matters like paying players or, in this day and age, rampant jersey or shoe selling. It used to be about academic fraud, but the UNC case makes that a dubious assumption.
Back to the point, the NCAA ain’t touching this one with a 200 mile pole…or whatever the distance is from Indianapolis to Columbus. Wife-beating, DUIs, employee affairs, and duplicitous, scumbag coaches are out of their purview.

I can just visualize the powers that be at OSU sitting around a table with their hands over their ears and mouthing “Naaah, naaah, naaah … … .” while the report is being read. What you don’t hear nor see won’t hurt you – much.

This is an ugly game of chess.
As Derek posted at 9:04 , OSU’s next move should be to query McM about anything else he has and might be holding back. Say they need the information in order to do the right thing. If McM refuses, then it makes him look like an opportunist that doesn’t really care about truth and justice, but is just interested in making as big a splash as possible. Playing “gotcha”.
It’s the best solution IF everyone is honestly seeking answers and is interested in doing the right thing. (I almost couldn’t type that last sentence)
Sunlight is a great disinfectant.

Or McMurphy could legitimately claim he can only vouch for what he has published so far – anything further hasn’t yet been substantiated enough to pass along?
Ohio State has way more leverage and access here than McMurphy. It’s not his job to alert tOSU where someone on their side might be hiding something from them.
