The last “it just means more” moment of 2018

Chaser.

And that, friends, is why CBS will do everything in its power to renew its SEC broadcast deal when the time comes.

I’m not surprised that more people watched the de facto national championship game than two incredibly predictable semifinal games.

If you’re going to buy advertising for the semifinals, have them run it in the first quarter.

Senator, allow me to ask a question here, because it doesn’t really fit in any of the recent conversations.
Just delete this if it isn’t the time or place for it. I won’t care.
(Maybe you have already planned a discussion..don’t want to steal your thunder)
Did anyone notice the way Saban’s players seemed to just ignore his rants during the game? They just walked right past him as he was chewing them out.
I thought that maybe they’ve been told to do this..as in “When the coach starts screaming at you during a game, just walk away. That way it doesn’t go on and on and embarrass the program”.
Or maybe they have banded together and decided to just ignore him out of disrespect?
Also, I saw the Iowa State coach get flagged for just such a rant. I’ve seen Saban mad before, but this was on a new level.
It’s a curious thing to me.

Saban ranting is not Saban coaching. No reason for Tua to stand there while Saban screams “THREE F’ING PENALTIES, G-DAMMIT!”. When he asks a question or for explanation, then the kid better be there.

I also noticed the OU lineman 75 (who should have been ejected for his second PF) arguing with Riley about fighting on the field. Last year in the NCG, Saban had that punk that argued with him and wanted to fight the assistant coach.

While on the subject of that uncalled PF against #75, on that play Q Williams steamrolled Murray about 6-7 yards behind the line. It was bad enough that the officials completely ignored the cheap shot by #75 right in front of all of them, but the next play was shown as a 2nd and ten on the graphics. Did they not spot the ball where Murray was sacked? Or did they forget in their haste to break up the fight? OU ended up scoring a TD and that additional yardage could have made a difference.

I didn’t remember where the ball was spotted so it could have been a mistake by the ESPN graphic folks, hard to believe that didn’t come up by anyone since so I just assumed they did mark the ball correctly. (as someone who gave 14 points and lost my bet, I am bitter about Saban letting 28 point lead in the 1st quarter get away from him, especially when he went into victory to run the clock out inside the 5 at the end of the game. If I had also bet the over, which was 80 total points, I really would have been mad as the game ended with a total of 79!)

I don’t know what the schedule is surrounding these playoff games but do they do anything like the bowl games where the players participate in some activities together? Just curious because it certainly seemed like the Bama & OU teams had a high level of animosity toward each other.

Lots of smack and trash talking amongst both teams but seemed like the Bama defense had a personal agenda.

I noted this after our game, but was stunned with how many folks watched the SECCG (in amazement with the talent btw) who never showed interest in the Dawgs or SEC before. The whole world knew that this was a true top 3 matchup.

ISU was a rant about a call by officials, including pointing fingers in their face. I can’t blame them for that penalty at all. He may be a fine coach but it is hard to expect players to act with discipline if you cannot control your own emotions. Saban’s anger was at the undisciplined play of his own team. Throwing the headlines was pretty immature, and uncharacteristic, on his part, but I don’t think the officials had any skin in that game.

The officials just ignored a very obvious movement infraction by WSt. on a play they scored on. It looked like they ignored it out of spite, because the Iowa St. coach had been all over them. It was a horribly officiated game. But the Iowa State coach needed to cool it. But he was nowhere nearly as irate a Saban..who drew no flag.

To be fair, at the halftime interview the ISU coach did admit he needed to do a better job of keeping his cool. He said he couldn’t ask his players to be disciplined if he wasn’t.

Educated guess here: a significant portion of the SECCG number came from people who heard/phone notified/saw on bottom scroll that Bulletproof Bama was getting its ass handed to it, and wanted to see the king fall.

They have numbers from the start of the broadcast, and periods throughout the game. My guess is it started high because of the January drams, and built during the game. I just remember it was the highest rated game of the year but felt the playoffs would surpass it, especially the ND game with their national audience, especially the large northern cities and the “casual” CFB fans they have.
