The future’s not bright enough to need shades yet.

I’m trying to figure out which is my favorite line from this Chattanooga Times Free Press post-spring take on Tennessee, as it’s a tough call between “It’s not about whether the newcomers can help immediately. It’s about how many are going to be asked to”, “That seemingly takes the unit [offensive line] from bad to just not-so-good” and “Chaney’s infectious nature and experience developing offenses around talent — or a lack thereof — will make the Vols a better offensive team in 2019”.

Notably, the phrase “work in progress” is never used.  I wonder why.

    “Infectious nature”?
I’ve never met the man, but that is not the phrase that pops into my mind when I hear “Jim Chaney”. “Turnip” however, does.

I saw that and chuckled myself. I would continue the whole quote “Chaney’s infectious nature and experience developing offenses around talent — or a lack thereof — will make the Vols a better offensive team in 2019” The Vols ranked 122 out of 130 in total offense last year. It’s not like there is a whole lot of floor under them… making the task of improvement not really one that will be that challenging. Although i will say UGA ranked 83rd in 2015 and 87th in 2016… so it is not outside the realm of possibility that the Vols dip under Chaney.

Yeah. That phrase can mean a bunch of things that don’t smack of words like “smile, enthusiasm, training, teamwork”. The vaccination for that term will produce season-ending “anti bodies” in the form of an OL administered by a bunch of Bulldogs.

Yeah, but his enthusiasm is contagious when you listen to him explain how he likes to go to Golden Corral at 10:30 for the breakfast buffet, then just keeps eating until they transition to the lunch buffet. It’s a two hour plus commitment, but you only have to pay for the breakfast buffet.

I seem to be having reading comprehension issues this morning, What’s the author trying to say here? “Plus with some optimism — albeit a small amount — that Trey Smith may one day play again, the best depth may have never played a down for the Vols yet. But there’s hope that it could come.”

Chattanooga needs to step up its troll game.

“After 12 practices and three scrimmages, some questions for Vols get positive answers…but most don’t.”
