This is why I wish Kirby wouldn’t discuss the transfer portal.
It’s not that he’ll look hypocritical when he takes a highly ranked, early bailing transfer who’s not a grad (*** cough *** Demetris *** cough *** Robertson*** cough). We all know that’s part of the game. It’s the gratuitous shot at parents that’s gonna get thrown back in his face. And should be.
Sometimes, discretion is the better part of recruiting.
I thought DRob had a sick mother and that was the reason for the transfer.

That’s pretty much a textbook “at the first sign of trouble”. 😉

I disagree. DRob has an illness in his family and wanted to be closer to home. He had 70 catches for almost 1000 yds as a freshman, playing time wasn’t an issue.
Fields on the other hand didn’t get his way so he took his ball and went home (I.e. first sign of trouble) instead of staying and fighting for a job.
Totally different situations.

All the more reason not to issue a six-word sound bite.
And that’s not the justification Fields gave for his departure.

Fields was given a gift by that idiot Sasser.

That’s what former youth baseball teammates do for each other.

Fields and “that idiot Sasser” were best friends. You might want to learn a little about their relationship before you jump to conclusions. Of course, it seems it’s too late for that.

I’m very aware of their relationship. Under the NCAA rules, it doesn’t matter about the circumstances. His drunken outburst in the student section gave Thomas Mars and Justin’s father everything they needed to get him to the top of the depth chart at anOSU.

I agree with that ee but also it obviously was said in jest. The context makes all the difference. I’d bet Sasser and Fields have been calling each other that for years. Kids say stupid things. Worse, you hear that language used in movies and vieos of comedians (Chris Rock is only one) and everybody says it’s oh so funny. But in 21st Century ‘Murica you can’t say that word publically even in jest without bad ramifications. And I do think Fields used that incident at least privately, knowing it was said in jest, to get into the transfer portal–which was totally dishonest. Sasser is likely not a racist but he lost his baseball scholarship anyway. That’s why we all need to teach our kids to STFU, about that at least.

So you’re arguing that there are circumstances under which white men can use that word to describe black men in jest, in their presence, and everyone gets a chuckle out of it? This is like a real thing to you?
Put me down as skeptical….

You should go to a high school football/baseball/basketball team locker room. I can assure you it would be quite the learning experience for you.
It may come as a shock to you but the world is not nearly as PC as snowflakes and college administrators think it is.

I don’t think it’s acceptable regardless of your color.
That goes for insulting others in general, for everyone.
(Not that I haven’t done my share…I’m as guilty as everyone except maybe Chili)
Really though, had Sasser never been born, Fields was going to transfer. Sasser’s behavior was low hanging fruit of a reason, though, and Fields grasped it. Sasser’s actions were ugly..Field’s using it was baloney. But whatever.
Good luck to both of them.
They’re still young’uns. I hope they both learned some things and can put the bad taste of this situation behind them.

Happens all the time, happened at my high school. If a white kid was allowed to say it, it was like being accepted. It’s completely tone deaf and should never happen, but kids don’t understand the social implications of their actions bc kids are stupid.

Happened quite frequently in The Corps. If you were boys anything was fair game when it came to joking each other.

You actually believe that?
Seriously?
How did these guys who are 3 years apart in age and went to high school 175 miles apart get to be so tight exactly?

There is a thing called travel ball that puts kids of different ages and locations together. Until you learn some more about what you are talking about you may want to stay out of this.

I think it’s a stupid ass rumor floated by stupid ass people.

These are the kind of people who believe the shit Trump says, Derek. They’re exactly the sort of people who would believe a story that Sasser was actually Fields’ best friend growing up and was totally kidding with his remark on the field and that’s really just how white kids talk to their black friends.
The degree of stubbornness and refusal to call racism what it is by these people is simply astounding. They can’t do it because it gets too close to looking at themselves in the mirror.

Needs to learn to stfu. If anything he should go the route of saying players deserve payment. Even if he doesn’t agree it’ll help with recruiting. Luckily Dabo and Saban have taken similar positions recently b

Agree. I’d be far more pissed about a regular leaving for the nfl draft, and then didn’t get drafted, than losing a backup to the portal.

What you aren’t hearing coaches say is the transfer portal is a good tool to push unwanted players out without hurting recruiting. One of them will be stupid enough to admit it at some point.

Yea Saban and Dabo have never said anything remotely close to that kind of stuff before. He’s paid to win and run his own program, not to address other programs and how they should handle their own business. Context when discussing the portal is in the eye of the beholder. There are 400 kids sitting in the portal without their next landing spot. So what do their soon to be former coaches think? Hey its good to hop in the portal when the rough get tough…it works out just great!

Kirby should tell all reporters that there’s not an “I” in team but there is a “u” in cunt. I would laugh.

I hate that word. Full stop.
Was in Prague 20 years ago with a buddy and a drunk Brit knocked over some girls drink. My buddy tapped him on shoulder and calmly said “you should apologize to that girl”. Brit says “where is the cunt?”. My buddy about decked him before he rephrased his response.

I spent a week there playing golf with my dad about 9 years ago. I never heard that word a single time in a pub, from a caddie, or just on the street.

Given that Kirby is married and has a daughter, he would probably get fired and divorced in short order for something like that … and it would be deserved.

As long as he’s signing 5 stars and making millions his wife and ADGM will let him say what he damn well pleases. I understand you not liking a word, but the comment section is no place to get a soapbox about language. Comes off as pretentious.

Oh good grief … women feel that word is similar to the word Sasser used to get himself kicked out of school. It’s demeaning and degrading and has no business being used. If Kirby used that word in the context AJ describes, the national media and the feminist movement would descend on Athens in a heartbeat and demand Jere Morehead give them his head on a platter no matter how many 5 stars he signs or how many national championships he wins.

Anybody who compares the “c” word to the “n” is definitely white lol. Anyway, my point is, your rant on the subject is a huge bore. You’re either bent out of shape about the hypothetical of CKS using the word or you’re mad that somebody used it in the comment section of a football blog. Either way, tell it to your therapist bc we don’t care.
