Goodness gracious, this was sure fun to watch.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
If he stays on his feet he catches that ball in stride and takes it to the house

Disagree. #1 knows td’s and yardage are what’s going to get him paid one day (and he will get paid in just a few years). Why give up both if he didn’t think he had to? Is Kirby that fired up if he thinks the kid made a bad play?

LOL. Yeah, if only his arms were 11 feet long maybe.
Or, if the ball wasn’t overthrown he could have caught it in stride and run it in.
Or, (best response) what a great catch!

Dude dives with bent elbows, idiot.

LOL. Right. Maybe the Dawgs can hire you as the WR coach.

Pickens might be our first true “just throw it to him” WR since AJ. We have had great players, mind you, but (insert FCS caveat here) he has the build, hands, and mindset to dominate. Blocks like a winner, too.

Javon Wims says hello. Dare I say best jump ball receiver we have ever had. Equally as important to the 2017 season as Sony, Chubb or Roquan, IMO. We don’t beat ND without Wims.

Love Wims. Nothing against him at all, and he was great at just rising up and getting the ball (among a bunch of other skills). He also played at a high level all season and that matters.
For all that, Pickens looks to have a higher ceiling.

Without a doubt. My comment was in response to “since AJ”. I just don’t want Wims to be forgotten!
Pickens should far exceed Wims over his career. Dude is an NFL talent.

His injury in the 2nd half of the National Championship altered the outcome of that game just like D’Andre Walker’s injury in the 4th Quarter of the SECCG. People forget about that but it was huge.

100% correct on both.

I’d enter Malcolm Mitchell or Riley Ridley in that conversation as well. It’s probably fair to say Pickens has the highest ceiling of any WR since AJ. Hopefully Kirby doesn’t waste him with his nonsense about blocking being a priority for a WR. Guys like Pickens can beat Alabama and Clemson and we need to take full advantage.

Yeah, as relaxed an athlete that ever riveted his eyes on a ball in the air – AJ did that for us and Pickens is another beautiful WR to watch.
The TD throw and catch with a foot down in the end zone was as smooth one-motion football as I have ever seen. There will be many replays to give Pickens his due credit for several years.

Dear George Pickens,
Please stay three years. I’d ask for four years, but I’m hoping for three!

As a true freshman barring injury or doing something stupid doesn’t he have to play three years?
LikeLike
Yes, he does. The NFL stipulates that a player has to be 3 years removed from high school in order to enter the draft. Of course there’s the Maurice Clarett example of quitting OSU after his Sophomore year and get into a legal battle to try and enter the NFL draft. He didn’t end up winning that legal battle and I don’t believe any other CFB player has attempted to do that since Clarett.
That being said, I think I read where this most recent iteration of the XFL is going to be signing players as long as they are at least 18 years old. If that’s the case then, it will open up a new avenue for players to develop and demonstrate their football skills while also getting paid. It wouldn’t surprise me if there is a good number of highly talented players who forego a year or 2 or skip CFB completely in order to make $ now. Especially if the player’s family could really use the source of income.

Wonder what Kirb’s vertical would be if they measured it?

Assuming he wears a size 10 shoe, about a foot. But that photo is mid happy skip, so it’s not a true measure. 🙂

When Sony scored in the Rose Bowl OT, I cleared at least 11 inches on the vertical. Not bad for an ol’ white boy.

Lol. While we sat there in the stadium yesterday, also known as hell’s front porch yesterday, we talked about how despite what a scorcher it was, it beat having to listen to Beth Mowins.

If he stays healthy, and eligible, for 3 years, he will be at least the equal of AJ. I have no idea why he made that NSD flip from The Barn, but I am thankful to the football guys for sticking that in their scummy eyes. Delicious!
I think JF11 is just now learning how to fully utilize his incredible talent. He will be tough to handle anywhere, but I love his potential in the red zone situations we will face. Keep spreading it all over the field and prevent folks from loading up on him. We have enough receiving serious threats to protect him, imo…just don’t forget to feed the bear a healthy diet; they don’t come around often.

Don’t want to jump to conclusions, but let’s do it anyway. With Pickens and DRob leading the way, I believe we may have the second best WR corps in the conference. And top 5 nationally.

I can stand behind your “jump to conclusions” prediction. Let’er rip! Between the line’s blocking and the TEs’ and WRs’ blocking, great happenings should occur.

They looked good – but that guy from LSU looked unbeatable

Eh, LSU may have something to say about that. They had 3 WR’s with 100 yards each last night.

But our receiving corps only had 12 catches last year!!!

We do have some serious talent at receiver, and I loved that we kept throwing and spreading it around to all of them yesterday. Much better way to finish up a blowout than repeated dive plays for 3 quarters.
