Game day post, Mizzou edition

Today’s big news, of a sort:

I’m not sure how big a deal this is, to tell you the truth, as a less than 100% Kelly Bryant is less of a threat — not to mention it’s not like this Georgia team hasn’t already lost once this season to a team playing a back up quarterback.

Anywho, here’s a bunch ‘o stats for your perusal.  Overall, the Dawgs have the better set of numbers, which isn’t much of a surprise.

Nothing has changed my mind that both teams are going to play conservatively and hope to wait out the other squad’s mistake(s).  Don’t expect to be wowed.

Spread’s 17.5 and I think the Dawgs just miss covering.  Say 27-10, 31-14… something along those lines.

I’m heading out the door shortly, so this is your invite to talk about the game.  Try not to pull too much of your hair out if he Dawgs don’t dominate in the first half.

23-10? 3 FGs and 2 TDs get it done. Keep winning and go to the Plains looking for blood.

Jet sweep, flea-flicker, double-reverse pass, hidden ball trick, Hot-Rod pass & Zeus in the Wild-Dawg. Just having a great wet dream. My gut tells me this game is ripe for some of these plays.

Either Arkansas fires Chad Morris at halftime or we should revoke their SEC membership. 35-7 halftime to Weatern Kentucky at home? I wonder if the fans are booing?

I think we cover IF we finally get a turnover on a short field or pick 6. Mean reversion might suggest this is a game where that actually happens.

  6. I think UGA walks away in this one. 42-10 / 35-7. Something along those lines. If the Dawgs are focused – they should be up 14 by the half. Maybe more. Believe Mizzou is a talented team and they did have two weeks to prepare – but just get the feeling that Dawgs are going to ‘to work’.

What’s the deal with not calling facemask penalties against ‘Bama?
If they would have called it, it would be first and goal instead of a FG.
LSU leads 10 to 0 early.

So far it doesn’t look like the bama D closes on the ball like we do. We usually have a swarm and they seem to have just one guy, wiffing. It may be that lus is just that much faster than anybody we’ve played to date.

Bwwaaha rwarraar footbaw! Looks like Oregeron’s pregame speech has the Tigers ready. 33-13 at half and I would be surprised if it’s not 40-13 before Bama sees the ball in the 2nd half.

It truly is amazing how much better Burrow and the other LSU offensive players got after last season. I mean, it can’t be scheme, can it?

Burrow is borderline perfect as a QB, receivers are talented. and their running back is solid as well. Add Brady for the schematic changes and you have the offense I have seen in CFB this season. How do you stop all those weapons in the hands of a sniper QB? Impressive.

It’s like he can only throw where he plans to throw before the play. Shit. If he could scan the field and find the right target, he’d be dangerous!!!!!!!!

Did you actually watch that play? Had he gone to next check down, he would have been laying on his back after being flattened by a the defender running full speed. Ball would have probably gone backwards and could have been a scoop and score. He had to release it that instant.

Our offense has hit stall again. Maybe our staff needs an extra week before every game to put some variety in, we don’t look like the same offense we had last week. Were they working on Auburn and decided to have nothing for Mizzou? Those three drops early didn’t help either.

Watching SMU, Minnesota, other teams – so many offensive coaches out there doing more with less.

Fromm occasionally misses openings, but most of the time when you see the whole field he’s got few options. If I had to put numbers on our passing game woes, it would be:

20% Fromm occasional bad decision / game (but still a huge net positive).
      40% receivers
      40% Coley.

Coach Coley isn’t doing anyone any favors. He’s had all these 4 and 5 star receivers for 10 months now. Ha ha – one of the halftime announcers just said exactly the same thing as I was typing it.

For you guys that are wringing your hands, Trey Hill going out has hurt the offense bad. The line has been shuffled which screws things up and Mays just can not play center. Before Trey Hill’s injury the offense looked good. It sounds like it wasn’t anything real serious. Cager being hurt yet again worries me more.

You’re right. The starting center going down is not a big deal at all. He just makes all the calls at the line. So suddenly having that go out and having to shuffle the line around that wouldn’t have any effect at all. You guys are so smart and are so right to be crying like little girls. I am suitably chastened.

Trey Hill has arguably been the offensive MVP up to this point in the season.

The team has shown unprecedented character to overcome the loss of the team leader and the best offensive player to stake a dominant half time lead over a high-quality SEC opponent.

Only Kirby’s unrivaled leadership and game-planning has allowed the team to overcome a power-five opponent and heated division rival.

Other teams would have wilted in the face of such vicissitude.

      You are crazy.

JF’s mastery at reading defenses allows him to throw the ball to seemingly covered receivers in very tight windows.

Because Fields has failed to learn the offense and progress, he has been limited to throwing the ball to receivers that are wide open. Any run of the mill quarterback can do that. Only a master tactician can with a keen mind can throw the ball to covered receivers.

That TD pass from Fromm doesn’t fit your narrative. Most folks that know what they are talking about like Fromm. Is UGA perfect? Far from it. But WE have lost one game. WE are winning 27-0. WE are ranked highly and, if WE win out, WE will be in it to win it. I am not happy with the offense but damn y’all are just too much.

Cade Mays snapping it over Fromm’s head and generally making bad snaps the entire third quarter had nothing to do with that awful offensive performance. Who cares about petty trivialities like getting the snap to the quarterback cleanly? Any idiot will tell you that’s not important. Equally unimportant that we’ve now lost Mays and Wilson just went down.

Nobody game plans to have 2 guys that can snap the ball. It’s a waste of time, because there is just the one ball.

Absolutely. Because the backup is always just as good as the starter. That’s why he’s the backup. It’s more like theyre costarters and they just flip a coin to see who will start a given game? Amirite? It clearly made no difference.

  29. Our pedestrian offense is a joke.

Manball leading to 3 injured offensive lineman. Great strat there.

I was re-watching the Florida game earlier and on the 53 yard td pass to Cager, the announcer said “That is Georgia’s first pass in the SEC this year that traveled over 15 yards.”

Jesus. Seriously? How do we never stretch the field? Garbage.

And I am sick of the coaches pushing this false narrative that fans are critical of the players. I think that’s a betrayal of the fan base that makes the players think the fans are not behind them.

No, coaches. The fans are pissed at YOU GUYS and your uncreative, crappy offense.

The reality is we have regressed every year since 2017. I maintain that was our year to win the Natty, and we blew it. If that happens, none of this bickering is occurring. Annoyed, frustrated yes. But angry and beyond frustrated-no.

Do y’all see this team hanging with LSU, or Bama? I don’t. Still 2 hard opponents left after this.

      Liked by 1 person

      • I’m not even sure we hang with Auburn after all these injuries.

If we had a real offense the game would have been 42-0 at the half and we’d be playing backups and burning clock rather than having starters get injured.

Instead, we have a giant pile of injuries the week before we play friggin Auburn.

        This is so depressing.

And yes, I am very worried that 2017 was it. Was that our rare combination of just the right players to have a shot? And we blew it by failing to contain Alabama’s backup QB on a 2nd and forever in OT? 😦 /wrists

Yes. That captures it accurately. You blow teams out, like Clemson or OU do against at 5-3 or 4-4 opponents. Bama should be ranked higher than us still. It doesn’t matter anyways. Still 2 very hard games left. Atlanta isn’t guaranteed.

I want someone to convince me how this isn’t any better than CMR first 4 years. No really, please. It’s not a rhetorical being an ass question. To change my mind otherwise, it’s a national championship. That’s the bar. Everyone knows it.

Kirby far far better recruits and a weaker division.

            1) We played for the national title.

            2) 3-1 vs. Florida. (CMR 1-3, including losses when we were #5 and Florida was unranked, and when we were #4 against #23 Florida).

            3) The incredible strength of CKS recruiting – particularly the way he doesn’t ignore OL and DL – certainly gives me more confidence for the future than CMR ever did.

            4) CKS shows no signs of holding on to crappy assistants who fail to deliver. He may not always pick the right guy, but he doesn’t cling to them too long out of a weird sense of loyalty. I highly doubt you’ll see CKS do anything similar to the Willie Martinez debacle.

There are similarities, however. The Sugar Bowl loss last year to Texas definitely reminded me strongly of the 2005 Sugar Bowl loss to West Virginia.

At least the Kentucky was in the rain. This had to be the longest and uneventful ballgame I ever saw. Pickens made some catches and actually stood up and ran. Swift broke a few decent runs along with Herrien. Sort of looked like Kirby was trying to make everyone happy Cook, McIntosh and Zeus got to play.
Cook looks like a slot. Do we block anyone on punt return at all ? It can’t be that difficult. Perhaps Kirby could put on the WR’s on punt return at least we know it’s a fact they have to block. Drob is a end around or jet sweep designated play. How many pass targets has he had this year; For you stat guys.
There was not a great deal of emotion except for chippy talk and a few shoves. On the bright side those idiocies of commercials and TV time outs ai think lasted longer than the game.
Kind of reminds me of watching the Braves this season. Get men on base and never drive em in. Dawgs pile up the 1st. downs and never drive it in. I sure hate to see Hot Rod go. He will be missed. Not sure what Coley could do inside the red zone if it weren’t for the Specs.
