Andy Staples has the best Phil Steele story.

My favorite thing I learned writing this @philsteele042 story? At one point, Phil got down to 6-point type. When people started asking him to include a magnifying glass with each magazine, he decreed that he would use nothing smaller than 8-point type. https://t.co/jHVURwD1TI pic.twitter.com/ApEGPni86J

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
Clearly the photo and masthead are in need of reduction. 🙂

It’s why I don’t read it. He simply can’t self edit. Everything can’t be important enough for the magazine. And deciphering the alphabet soup is a drag. He’s brilliant. But beyond the charts and graphs I don’t have the patience for it.

According to my memory it could stand to lose about four pounds each year by eliminating this type of reminiscence:
“In 2015 UGA had problems at QB and OC and changed HC, resulting in a transitional 2016. In 2017 this paid big dividends with an SECC, CFBPO, and NTG appearance L/OT. In 2018 came just short of SECC and ended with NY6L. 2019 campaign ended in SECE/NY6W but featured more problems on OC resulting in new hire/Monken/change of O scheme.”
Thanks, got it. I do recall. Can we do 2020 now?

It’s redundant for teams we pay attention to but is useful if you’re one of those people invested in football beyond the Top 25/Regional bias. To that end, I fully understand why some people simply don’t care for it.

To your last sentence, I see why casual fans don’t care for it, but I do not understand how invested CFB fans (that applies to most regulars here) can live without it. I really don’t, unless you are just a UGA fan and don’t really need more information on them.

My son pulled his dog earned 2019 out yesterday. Started quizzing me on toughest 2018 schedules. Went ahead and preordered the 2020 edition.
