This is hilarious. A week ago, Georgia sat third in the 247Sports’ Team Talent rankings. Florida sat in sixteenth place.
Four days later, Georgia’s moved into first… and Florida has dropped to 19th. Northwestern is closer to the Gators in the scoring than Georgia is. Hell, Georgia Tech is closer to Florida than Georgia is.
I don’t think the Portal Master™ has this gap closing thing down pat yet.
Florida is apparently following Mark Richt’s roster-building strategy… Only 72 on scholarship?!?

I’ve read where it isn’t complete populated on the Gators side yet. They are guessing they’ll move into the #10 range. Regardless, the problem the Gators have is the first grouping 1-3 or 4 , maybe 5 is in a different world than 6-10. Where as there isn’t that much difference between 5-10 and 11-15. So while they may be moving up 3 spots or so from 13, it isn’t significant enough to even slightly move the needle.
I think UF and their fans are in for an education come November. They have their eyes on Georgia, where they had better be on the look out for UT and Kentucky – even South Carolina.

Kentucky is the team. They get Terry Wilson back healthy, and they’re gonna beat Floriduh and finally Tennessee in the same year.
Stoops is the David Cutcliffe of the SEC. Perfect school and coach combination, where he can go out and every few years win 9-10 games and surprise some teams. I think he’ll eventually leave and take over OU when Lincoln Riley leaves for the NFL, but Stoops should stay at UK forever. He’d have a high paying job for 20 years, he may even sneak a division title out of that time, and he’ll be the greatest football coach in Big Blue Nation’s history, with a statue in front of the stadium and everything.

Well except that coach of the 1950 SEC champs, I suspect he will be the greatest football coach they ever had there. But I agree that Stoops is in a great spot at KY.

I think it’s about the totality (Stoops) and not the short term (Bryant). Like with Spurrier at Duke. He actually won a (pre-FSU) ACC Title at Duke. However, it’s Wallace Wade who is still currently Duke’s greatest head coach ever, and that may change the longer Cutcliffe coaches.

Stoops to wade is not a legitimate comparison. Wade won big. Stoops has not won anything. At least bear won something at Kentucky before he left. I’d rather have that than 15 years of average.

What the hell are you talking about?
Stoops is coaching at KENTUCKY.
Wade coached at DUKE.
I never once compared them.

Yes you did. You compared spurrier’s time at duke to that of the Bear’s at Kentucky. You then said wade is considered the best coach at duke over spurrier due to
Totality. You conclude that if stoops stays a long time he will be the best Kentucky coach over bear. I simply said this is a false analogy as stoops has not won anything and wade did. Hope that clears up the confusion.

Show me where I compared STOOPS to Wade. Which is what you said.

I see UK giving the barn all they can handle as well, with a chance to win. Uk returns a lot (16 players) and au doesn’t (8 returning players) and it is early in the year. With limited practice numbers and players missing for covid from practice this could be big early in the season.

We all saw it first hand with Richt. We had lots of talent compared to everyone else except as compared to Bama, UF and LSU. Maybe Mullen has the ability to overcome this but I have seen nothing from him that makes me think he is a better coach than Richt.

I didn’t do a deep dive, but it’s definitely not complete for the Gators. From my recollection, UF has the following 5* on its roster:
Dexter: True freshman DT
Shorter: WR transfer from PSU
Lingard: RB transfer from Miami
Cox: DE from transfer from you guys
Only Lingard is on that list. Obviously it won’t put UF anywhere near Georgia, but UF’s ranking isn’t right for sure.

I noticed Cox was missing as well. Seems strange since he’s been at Florida for over a year now which is a lot longer than Lingard.

Here’s another thing. 247 re-ranks players when they enter the portal. It’s on each teams transfer portal page, but they haven’t reflected this on the roster pages. Of the gators listed above, Lingard and Shorter were knocked down to 3 stars, and Cox was downgraded to a 4 star. For Tennessee, Cade Mays and Aubrey Solomon we’re downgraded from 5 to 4 stars. A good deal of the transfer showing 4 stars on Tech’s roster were downgraded to 3 also. On our own transfer portal page, Daniels was lowered from 5 star to 4, and Newman was bumped up from 3 to 4 star.

Dexter will be good, but he’s young.
Shorter needs a QB.
Lingard transferred because he lost his job.
Cox was 4th string at UGA and had a bad attitude.
That mix of five stars doesn’t equal success.

I keep thinking back to that bill Connelly article from last year that stated returning WR production was more indicative of offensive success than returning OL. We learned that lesson last year; it seems no one is talking about them losing their top 2 receivers, except here. Can’t wait to teach them that lesson this fall.

Trask will throw so many picks that by the time of the Cocktail Party they will be playing Jones a lot of snaps.

Senator…The “port-o-let master” has it down, going way down on that talent gap chart ranking list…am more interested in how well FU performs without those cupcakes to snack on….#FTMF

Jefferson, Perine and Swain were their #2, 3, and 4 recieivers
Perine was their leading rusher
Pitts had the most receptions, so he will still be threat, but unless they have a WR that can make up the loss of Jefferson, Pitts is going to get smothered.

I think they’re hoping Shorter can be that guy, but he was very average at Penn State.

Can anybody summarized what caused the move?
Seperately, 2020 florida is 2018 South Carolina, trendy preseason dark horse pick for the sec east that’s completely not substantiated by data. More worried about them catching georgia overlooking them on an off day in 2021 after an absolute dismantling in 2020 if the pattern holds up.

Ya think that’s Kirbs crootin’, CKS listening to other voices (staff/players), CKS knowing other institutions are upgrading or nike changing the look ($$$$)…Red tops with silver bottoms is still UGA no matter what…

If ever there was a season for this, 2020 is it. New threads may replenish a little of the juice that half empty stadiums take away.
Also, both looks are sharp. I’ve long thought the road red britches were highly underrated.

It is fun to read this kind of stuff but I’m still a bit uneasy, have to hope that the data translates to the field. Our offense last year sure underperformed when looking at the player ratings.

Didn’t see Brenton Cox on Florida’s roster. He’s been eligible since around March of ‘20 to play I believe.
Not going to help them imo, but wonder what’s going on there. An oversight, or did I miss something??

Fortunately for Florida in Talking Season, it’s completely unnecessary to have talent to be predicted to win the division

S.C. or Tenn will beat the Gators – possibly both of them. That would make my 6 – 4 prediction work. It appears to me the fan base is more pumped up than the team.
