Doing something right

Call it recruiting, call it player development, whatever.

What I call this is enviable depth ($$).

4. DE Jermaine Johnson, Georgia → Florida State

Johnson quickly emerged as the Seminoles’ best player on defense this spring.

That’s right, a good Georgia player in a three-man rotation at his position moves on to an ACC school and after a month of practice, becomes the best defensive player on the roster.  Do we really care why?  I know I don’t as long as Georgia keeps doing it.

And playing against ACC schools. The man should feast. Then again, he may get doubled, even tripled at times, depending on the rest of the FSU defense.

To be fair, FSU is bad. Really bad. I’d imagine any of our 3 man rotations at DE/LB would start on that team full time.

On the flip side, a FSU team featuring the “worst offensive line in college football history” produced transfer Landon Dickerson, who won the Remington and got drafted in the top 40 despite ending the season with a knee injury.

Just wanted to post that as a continuing LOL at Bud’s failed effort to provide Willie cover.

  5. When Kirby’s done recruiting for us, he will fill the rosters of our opponent’s’ opponents. 3D chess baby!

I didn’t even realize Johnson had transferred. I don’t know if that’s a sign of early onset dementia or that our D is so deep it didn’t even register that he was gone.

I think he wanted more time on the field rather than rotating like our defense does. If he goes to FSU and dominates, I guess it could pay off for him, though would think he’d have plenty of film from us. Plus, if we make the playoffs/win it all this year, he’ll get that “Bama bump” that their players get from playing on a championship team.

The one thing that I noticed is that of the three ‘undecided’ two are LBs which I don’t see us needing, and the one DB – who is certainly talented – has other issues. So many things look good for this year, and defensive is your bailiwick; save us Obi Wan Kirby!

Obviously the FSU staff is better at development.

I thought he was an excellent player for us and I was sorry to see him go. I understand his reasoning, however. He wants to show the NFL his all round linebacking skils..

I went back and checked. There were six players on that list transferring from Tennessee. Ouch.

I guess we have become a supplier of defensive talent to the Power 5. How does Alabama not have this problem?
