Players hopelessly riding the pine might leave. Creating opportunities for overachievers at schools that have no chance at the CFP or want to enhance their NFL film.
Seems I remember a school recently finding their best DB that way. Is that how it’s done?

Leave Alabama? It’d be safer to leave Bendini, Lambert, & Locke.

    • I guess that means Bama’s good players would have to transfer somewhere in the Caribbean. 😉

If you leave the continent known as alabamia, little nicky can’t care for you anymore but if you are the player we want…well transport on over…little nicky is attempting to make alabamia the center of your world and college football also…

Player’s family prohibit players from leaving the casino chip $$$$ flow pouring from the Red Elephant Casinos…oh but Nick is such a great recruiter.

  4. Teams that manage their roster the best win the most. Saban said it himself … we’ll take a player if we have room and if there’s a need. Those who think Saban, Smart, Swinney, Day and Riley to name a few are going to hold slots for transfers instead of for a high school blue chip are kidding themselves. It’s those who don’t get it done in December and February that scramble in the portal.

I guarantee you all those coaches are going to hold at least 1 spot for the portal. It’s dereliction of duty if they don’t. The portal slot can be used for immediate help for a specific need that a HS player can’t fill.

      • They aren’t going to use a spot for a player from the portal unless they know they have a hole in their roster. My point is that they aren’t going to undersign high school players for spots for transfers. They will use transfer out spots for potential incoming players.

Why sign a marginal player from the portal for 1 or 2 years over a blue chip that could be 3+ year contributor?

Saban’s Wiki bio states that as Toledo’s HC he turned down an application from Urban Meyer. Good call.

The really interesting inflection point will be player A who uses the 1 time transfer rule after his freshman year. Then after his sophomore year, he decides to transfer again and wants immediate eligibility. Do we see more reasons to allow another immediate eligibility in the future as we have seen prior to the 1 time transfer rule?

That depends a lot on what is remaining after the SCOTUS gets through with the NCAA. They could burn them to the ground since restricting transfers would violate the antitrust law. You could have the players sign a covenant not to compete but that would be a short lived thing since the players are not paid at all

Kind of telling that the AL title sponsor on that presser is a BANK.
