A master class in Dawgrading

Over at Roll Bama Roll, Erik Evans is a Georgia skeptic, because schedule, y’all.

Georgia remains one of the more suspect No. 1 teams we’ve seen lately. Their secondary still hasn’t faced anyone above 80th in passing rankings. And that’s probably good: the vaunted defense didn’t get to Will Levis as expected, and each of those “big wins” is looking sketchier each week: Clemson is just a team this season, the Wildcats are still a one-dimensional program overranked from a hot mess SEC East and easy OOC schedule, while the Hogs went from the toast of the town to a .500 team in the space of three weeks.

Meanwhile, Alabama finally put it all together against solid conference teams, with veteran coaches, in must-win affairs”… against Mississippi State.

If that’s meant as parody, he’s really good at it.

Yeah, this isn’t going to stop – only wait to shut these folks up is to beat Alabama.

Someone should save that and post it in the comment section of their postmortem of the Auburn loss.

You know, I’m starting to think Auburn might turn out to be a good football team this year. Mike Bobo may actually be turning Nix into a respectable QB. Maybe they’ll even beat Bama.

I can’t get too cocky because Bama and because I am currently ranked at 60th in the Fabris Pool but I can imagine Auburn beating this year’s Bama team. Nix is getting better every week and for whatever you have to say about the SEC East the SEC West does not look like it is any better.
When Saban leaves and they become either 1) just a really dominant team/ program and not the standard-bearer for the sport, or 2) a screaming shit show, or 3) a combination of the two, I for one will be very happy to check in on that crew over there.

FTMFs. Bama is the gold standard by which all others are measured so let them go ahead and dawggrade.

To be the man you got to beat the man, but through all the bullshit they talk they are acutely aware that the wolf is at the door.

The dumb-ass better start worrying about Auburn instead of looking down the road and trying to convince his marble sized brain that Georgia isn’t a threat.
Alabama doesn’t tackle well and Bo Nix (who is hot or cold) will almost certainly be on fire to win that one.
It’s hell for a UGA fan to have to pull for Auburn, but I will be. They are rapidly improving and have already faced the best team in the SEC this year.

Did anybody click through and look at Erik Evans’s bio. He runs a Kratom store and a tout service. A real leading light of the business community.

Kratom is a quasi illegal herbal pain relief thing. A Kratom store has about the same vibe as a CBD store. A tout service is someone who sells sports betting recommendations. If you remember Street and Smith’s preview magazine, just about every ad was for a tout service.

Says the guy whose secondary turned Zach Calzada into Trevor Lawrence. Sure, we have a struggle win against Clemson, but Alabama has an even closer struggle win against Florida. Also, Kentucky isn’t the old barely-better-than-Vandy program of yesteryear. They beat Florida by a larger margin than Bama did and they’re ranked higher than the Texas A&M team that Bama lost to. Bama fans are whistling past the graveyard and I hope we get to kick their ass in December–assuming they don’t trip over someone else first.

Speaking of the ACC team that we beat to open the season not panning out as expected, let’s talk about that impressive win they had against Miami in Atlanta that solidified their #1 ranking at the time. Miami is currently 2-4 and has yet to beat a P5 opponent. Their two wins are a two point win over App State and a thrashing of Central Connecticut State.

Auburn has a shot at Alabama this year. Young doesn’t play well in opponents stadiums, and Bobo should be able to exploit their defense.

Oh, and can someone explain to me why Oklahoma is getting a bunch of credit for winning 52-31 while giving up over 500 yards to a 3-3 TCU team that lost to SMU? Sure, it’s better than a 7-point win over Nebraska, but it’s hardly a huge win for a purported national championship contender.

Because the QB that was a Heisman favorite sucked and his backup is now the next Heisman favorite. Media loves them some Lincoln Riley for some reason.

And as much as I’d laugh if Auburn beat Bama, I want Bama at 11-1 and cocky when we beat the ever-living shit out of them in Atlanta. And then we can Dawggrade THAT win by saying Bama was overrated and gave us less of a game than Kentucky.

I was being a little bit sarcastic. I think Auburn could beat them to end the season, but I don’t think it’s especially likely. I’d put it up with my belief that LSU might upset Florida last weekend: possible based on the history of the series, but not anything I’d predict.

and number 4…The Board of Regents strips Alabama of their College and University status and a wealthy Auburn grad buys the campus and starts up “The University of Auburn at Tuscaloosa” and then the same thing happens to Auburn and Troy or Tuskegee end up with both campuses and then, following the trend, UTK is stripped of it’s status and ends up as the “Vanderbilt at Knoxville” campus and GT ends up as “Kennesaw State University Trade School in Atlanta”. Maybe it will all happen.

What are the three things a Bama fan fears the most?
    1. A tornado coming through the trailer park.
    2. Saban demanding the refs put time back on the clock for a kick-six against Auburn.
    3. A moving van with a Tennessee license tag driving slowly down their street.

Even the Bama fans who read RBR are mocking Evans’ claim that Cincy would be a “near-unanimous No. 1” if “they were in a bigger conference.”

Don’t look now, but there are only two teams in the west who can get to Atlanta without any help by winning out. The Iron Bowl is going to be a hell of a game.

In the east, there is only one.

  25. I saw a very interesting thread in the comments of a Matt Brown article on The Athletic site yesterday (Behind the Ballot). A guy compiled the records of every FBS schools’ opponents against other FBS teams, removing the game against that school – to try to determine who had played the best opponents. For example, the records Clemson/UAB/S Car/Vandy/Ark/AU/KY have against FBS teams, not including Georgia.

Georgia’s opponents by far had the best record against FBS teams at 25-10. Michigan’s (17-9) and OK State (17-13) opponents were closest, but still 8 fewer wins. Kentucky is second in the SEC at 14-11. ‘Bama’s opponents are 12-12, and the Gators opponents are 7-11.

Well, by “one of the more suspect No. 1 teams lately” this Evans doofus doesn’t mean to suggest that any Bama team lately ranked No. 1 has in any way been suspect. He’s talking about, uh, all those other suspect No. 1s. Who can forget how suspect LSU was in 2019?

Who is left in the top 10 that we couldn’t run the score up on? These Bama homers will never be happy.
