    LOL. What a fucking ‘turd.

He might as well as for his dad to get a brand new pinky, too, as long as he’s out there asking for the impossible.

Hmm. I’m so used to writing “turd” now as ‘turd, with an apostrophe before it to denote I’m talking about a Gaturd that I did that here even though Baby Mays is a Vawl.

The again, orange is orange and fuck ALL the orange motherfuckers!

We’re going to look back at these early days of NIL deals and laugh at how naive and innocent we were.

  6. But here’s the thing…if George Pickens were to make the same decision, why be offended? Isn’t this the kind of pressure some anti-NIL folks wanted on the NFL? If there is a talent drop in the NFL due to kids staying in school longer, might they respond by increasing rookie money and / or dropping the 4 year requirement?

Possibly. I think the NFL would prefer another year on tape for evaluation vs being threatened by NIL. I do think that if players start coming back for NIL money, (something that has been discussed here from time to time), how soon before said player makes a football business decision not to play the last half of a season after signing a NIL deal.

    • I’m fine with the decision. It’s his marketing approach that could use a little work.

Seemed the honest and transparent deliberations of a whore who knows he’s on the market.

What about this approach is something you didn’t ask for ad infinitum/nauseam?

Imagine if we’d gone in a totally different direction and he was deciding between the nfl or finishing his degree?

        Talk about unseemly. Ewww!

I’m also fine with the decision, and not as perturbed by his approach. At least he didn’t say he was going to ‘do it for the coaches and the alma mater’.

When the news about NIL was first breaking I read someone – maybe the Senator? – say that it might give kids a reason to stay in school, and it is looking like that might be true for some kids. Think about it – if you aren’t a first round pick and can get enough to make it worth staying and give yourself a chance to raise your draft rating why not stay? You play football, you don’t have to work NFL hours, and you might get your degree finished without having to leave and then come back. Win, win, win.

          Agree.

But, in this particular case, Cade likely won’t be improving his draft stock. His stock seems to get worse the more he plays. If he’s projected 3-4 then I’m guessing he goes 5th round.

  7. Just to be clear… the average salary of a 4th rounder on their rookie contract is nearly 700K.

This kid wants someone to pony up 700K for an extra year of service by a mediocre lineman for a team that won’t likely compete seriously for a championship for another 2-3 years.

He did not major in economics.

    • I, for one, am dying to know what young Cade thinks he has accomplished that is worth NFL money.

When he first signed with UGA, a friend of mine who teaches at his high school in Knoxville warned me that his entire family was full of entitled, self-important jackasses. Oh, how right she turned out to be.

The companies who pay for NIL want a return on their investment. The players view this as pay for play. It is impossible to know how all this shakes out.

I think there are two types of companies in play here. Companies that want a financial return on investment and companies (run by individuals) who are utilizing NIL entice players to attend said program. I think that is why it comes along to players as pay for play.
It will shake out with regulation of the industry, players becoming employees, and schools becoming sponsors.

An incredible amount of things would have to fall into place before there is any regulation. A whole new business model would have to be established. Until then, it will be the Wild Wild West.

I am sure someone out there is trying to figure out how to monetize “micro NIL deals” on day of play or post game. No need to have the $500 booster handshake. Instead, for $500, you can have a player send you a personalized video message telling you his 10 tackle performance wouldn’t have been possible without support from a fan like you Danny Kanell.

I don’t know how it will shake out but it will definitely find its level and what Travis Hunter got likely won’t be a common practice.

Also makes me wonder what kind of pressure these NIL put on guys like Jimbo. If he doesn’t win big, I have to imagine the guys writing the checks will not be happy. Do the boosters get even more power here?

  10. NIL influence can be balanced through transparency. Gambling technology is the storm on the horizon the NCAA is ignoring. A DB can wear a small earpiece and be told by someone in the stands that Momma gets a new house if he lets the WR get behind him for a score just to beat the spread. How do you police that?

    • junkyardawg41

I would think that would fall under the definition of Racketeering and that would be prosecuted by Federal or State Law enforcement with a lot more teeth than an NCAA investigator.

The NCAA was always feckless… now they are irrelevant.

I may be in the exception here, but to me the brand is the University of Georgia. If all the players got together and formed a minor league team how many people would go? Not many in my opinion. The question is whether we feel same about “our team” if they became the Bulldogs sponsored by the University of Georgia

So now, for some players not good enough to get NIL deals with even local businesses, they’re basically going to use the framework like OnlyFans, whoring themselves out to individual fans to pony up the money?

Because that sounds a lot like what he’s asking. Why not get a Patreon going then? Or a Kickstarter? “Keep Baby Mays in fugly orange for one more year! Reach our $500K goal before The Combine!”

Another thing to think about for Baby Mays:

You just know all the NFL coaches and GMs are going to have some particularly pointed questions about why he would want to leave a team that contends for the league title and playoffs every year to go to a dumpster fire program that hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years. There are definite questions about why he would not want to be coached by a guy who’s put lineman into the NFL (Matt Luke) to go be coached by a guy who generally thought of a pretty mediocre (Will Friend). Does he not like competition? Does he shrink in the face of difficulty? Is he mentally weak?

Mays fooled a lot of people in CFB with his Mars-tailored sob story I’m sure, but the NFL is unlikely to buy that bullshit narrative.

Man, the dude has completely pissed away a ton of money because his father couldn’t handle the fact that he’s not a LT and that big time LT money was never going to be in his future to save the family’s failing hunting business. Still, he could’ve been a really good LG prospect getting 2nd round money with the opportunity to have a productive NFL career. Now he’s looking at a 5th or 6th round pick and spending a lot of time on the practice squad.

And he brought it all on himself. I don’t feel bad for Baby Mays at all.
