I’ve always like McDonough. His career stalled, if not regressed, sometime in the late 90s or so. He used to call the SEC on CBS, and we all know his call on the SId Bream slide.

I believe I’ve read somewhere that he’s a bit salty which is why he hasn’t progressed up the card. He certainly can be on the air.

Yeah, it took me awhile to get over his sarcasm; but I think he’s toned it down some.

He was offline for a number of years. He got a DWI in the early 2000s (crashed into a building in Boston) and then took time to work through alcoholism before he was hired back into announcing at lower profile events.

Salty is good in my book. It adds flavor. Did you ever eat bread made without salt?
But, having said that the color person is the only one I care about; after all I can see what happened. Todd is as good as there is in that department.

Sean McDonough is salty? I wonder where he might have obtained that trait?

His Dad was known for “rewarding his friends and slamming his enemies” in his columns. He called Roger Clemens the “Texas Con Man” after Clemens left the Red Sox.

After Raymond Clayborn poked him in the eye in the locker room, the then 44 year old McDonough leveled the NFL cornerback.

And then there is this … “McDonough remained lifelong friends with two other prominent South Boston Irishmen: Massachusetts political leader William “Billy” Bulger and his older brother, Boston organized crime boss James “Whitey” Bulger.[3]”

You mean Skip Carey’s “Braves win! Braves win!” call?

I find it best not to listen to any of them.

I just want an ambient noise option.

Beth Mowins’s voice is nails on the chalkboard bad. That she tries to sound like a man is nauseating.

I personally never been a huge fan of Sean McDonough. Again, it’s a personal opinion, but I just don’t think he has a good broadcasting voice. It’s not a pleasing tone, as it’s nasally and his high pitch during big plays also is a turnoff.

He’s basically the complete opposite of Munson, Gene Deckerhoff or Keith Jackson.

  9. She may not be my first choice, or second, or third, or fourth even, but Mowins doesn’t make me want to throw my TV out the window like Gary Daniels does.

Eh, I’ve gotten over Beth Mowins. She is more knowledgeable than many of the other announcers and certainly seems more prepared.

Yeah, you and I may be the only ones, but I don’t mind her at all.

Is rather listen to Mowins them Danielson any day. I’d rather hear every game by her, than even one by him. The only good thing I have for Danielson was his “Uh oh!” right before Dean took Anthony Richardson’s pass to the house. But then he had to keep talking…

What? No Eli Gold at Bama this season.

Seriously, wishing Eli a swift recovery.

Aww boo, I like Mowins. She knows her stuff.

My problems with Mowins games is Kirk Morrison on color, who adds nothing other than the occasional “wow.”

  15. McDonough is an idiot. He doesn’t know what’s going on on the field half the time. Blackledge bites his tongue a lot during their broadcasts.

Reminds me of the good ole days – turn on the TV, turn down the volume, turn on Munson.

Remember when Bill Curry and/or Bob Davie would be the color guys on The Deuce? It was worse than colonoscopy prep.

Mowins is preferable to the junior senator from Alafucknbama calling a game.

Mowins sux. There’s really no nice way to say it. She’s usually on a West coast call or a nooner, so I wasn’t worried about her calling this game as she doesn’t get the big games (and there’s a reason). If men hate her calling a game, they’ll call us sexist. Every woman that I know that loves UGA football hate her too. It’s universal and crosses genders. She’s annoying to say the least. I’d listen to Gary Danielson for 168 straight hours over 1 minute of Beth Mowins.

Anybody know if they are going to offer the “hometown” broadcast alternative for this game?

We (the NE GA Mountains Alumni Chapter) are hosting a game watching party at the Ritz Theater in Toccoa (they serve alcohol if you’re interested) and I’d rather run that broadcast than these idiots.
