With this news…
The biggest event in college football is on the way back to Atlanta.
Previously played here in January 2018, the College Football Playoff national championship game will return to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in January 2025, several people familiar with the matter told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Atlanta will become the first city to host the CFP title game twice.
… comes the obvious question: will Kirby Smart object to not being able to host recruits at the game?
Well played, Senator.

Atlanta is a hole, but it’s a hole that knows how to throw a party.

He should, and he should keep complaining until the supposed leaders finally take responsibility to develop a fair and equitable system…which will never happen.

Y’all are incredible. The game in Jax is dying before your eyes. No amount of snark is going to change it. What the Kang wants, the Kang gets.
I’ll bet the first time the Gators come to Athens after Jax is extinguished for good, y’all will be all excited about this historic game. All of you saying you somehow are going to hold a grudge and be less than enthusiastic about the Gators in Athens are forgetting that we as fans are continually “screwed” by the powers that be of college football, yet here we are on a blog in mid August talking about various what-ifs in the world of college football.

Well, golly gee whiz. Hope I’ll be more excited than I was at the last historic game they played in Athens. 😉

Yeah, I went to both. Got our asses kicked in both. Nothing historic about that.
College football is based on traditions. WLOCP is one of the best. But to piss it away in some quest for an extra recruit would fit the current trend for sure.

Senator, I rewatched the Nebraska v. Florida championship game from that season last night on youtube (I watched it the first time as a senior in high school at Allens) and it made me wonder; was that the greatest game of the 90s for Georgia fans?

I’ll bite: Georgia-Florida, ’97. I think we were a 20 point dog and won by 20. Too bad we didn’t show up the following weekend for Auburn, but such was the ’90’s.

I think it’d have to be the 97 Florida game, 91 Clemson or 98 LSU in consideration but none of those brought me quite the same happiness.

It was the best win, but spitting the bit the next game against Auburn was Donnan in a nutshell.

Yes. I enjoyed watching Danny Wuerffel get his brains beaten in. I don’t think anyone in orange and blue has tackled Tommie Frazier and Lawrence Phillips.

Sis, I pissed off my FU grad wife in the middle of the night after that game by waking her up about 2:30 saying, “Baby, Nebraska just scored again!”

Historically bad…
I mean in 3 posts today we have called our national champion winning head coach “full of shit”, drawn a completely irrelevant inference about the playoff being in Atlanta, and referenced a quote from a former UGA player who grew up 90 minutes from Gainesville about how special the game in Jax is.
I think we are all clear on where your opinion is on the topic.

What can I say?
I’m obviously a bad UGA fan.

Sure it’ll be exciting the first time, because it will be unique. But every year after that it will just be playing another rival home and home, nothing unique. No different than Auburn or Tech.
Alternatively it’s unique every year because we only play one rival in a neutral site. See the distinction?

WTF does this have to do with the title game in Atlanta?

Georgia-Florida’s just another SEC game when it’s on campus. Sorry, it’s the truth. Georgia-Tennessee, Georgia-Auburn, Georgia-GA Tech are all fun but the Florida game is different and it’s not because they’ve got orange helmets.

He might be the “Kang,” but he isn’t a czar.
This comment does a disservice to the great man that you invoke in your user name. Larry never once said in the middle of the beatings through the 90s that the game should move to Athens.

Again, the Supreme Court has ruled that individual conferences can make their own rules and not be in violation of antitrust laws.
The SEC could step up and allow full recruiting at games like Jacksonville, etc.
Stop blaming the NCAA now and hiding behind a facade

The SCOTUS hasn’t said that.

Kirby will object to not being in the game. No mention of recruits. By then, the NCAA as we know it, might not even care or exist!

Completely unrelated, but just saw that Miles Brennan is stepping away from football. I wonder how quickly Geoff Collins can get him on the phone?

I mean, its not like he would be stepping into “football” if he went to Trek….

Since the odds seem good we’ll be playing in several of the next dozen or so natty’s, I guess this is good news.
It’s not Pasadena or Miami, but it sure beats Indy in January by a mile.

Now let’s do something about scheduling championships on Monday nights…

Can I get an AMEN! Monday night football is sacrilegious for so many reasons.

To further your point, it was also the most clothes I’ve ever worn to a football game.

If it can’t be on a Saturday because of the NFL (and it shouldn’t moving forward with addition of Week 18 in the NFL), play it on Friday. Hell, I’d even take a Thursday over a Monday.

Host city wants money spent all weekend in town.

Oh, I know that. It is part of the package of awarding the site. For the host city, it means 3 night minimums at hotels, bars, restaurants, rideshare drivers, etc. I’m just saying selfishly that I personally can’t stand the Monday night thing.

Oh, I dunno, Indy in January was about as much fun as I’ve ever had with all of my clothes on.

I rather liked Indy. It was colder than a witch’s titty, but I was there to watch a football game and that was indoors. It was close enough to not have to rely on finding short notice flights, which matters a lot. Heck, it was a shorter drive than our semifinal game in Florida.

The best part of the Indy trip was the happy ending at Bama’s expense.

I don’t care where they play it. I am more of the if Kirby wants it out of Gator country then so be it. Snark aside is this topic the new spring QBR rant?

Any of y’all ever seen an English Bulldog in a fight? He’ll put a bite on his opponent and won’t let go. That’s what some of y’all remind me of with your position on the game in J’ville. Not saying it’s a bad thing. Hell, I admire resilience in a man. Seems the only way y’all will let this go is like how Acee Christian got his Bulldog to let go. Spit on his finger and shoved it in the dog’s ass. He let loose with a Yelp.
That might be what some of y’all need. Like Charlie Harper says, you want the spit!

Y’all are focusing on the wrong snark. Imagine just for a minute that we have a head coach that is complaining how hosting recruits at the National Title Game. I want to live in that world where we actually have pre-season debates about it.
Forget all the rest.
