Love the PH addition. Don’t think that exact term was used, but the first time I saw the definition was years ago on the Dawgvent (back when the DV was THE place to visit for Dawg fans). Somebody was talking about preseason expectations, and said something to the effect of “Every preseason, fans believe that their young guys who will be taking the place of departed Jr/Sr’s will not only fill the void, but will actually be BETTER than the guys they are replacing. But for all the other teams, there’s NO POSSIBLE WAY that they’ll be able to replace all the talent they lost”.
Preseason Homerism is the perfect term for that definition!!!

+1, I recall those days fondly. Had to leave when the Negative Nellies made it impossible to read as they drove away the informative posters and devoted themselves to attacking all things UGA.
“Fair and balanced” is damned difficult during the off-season for all fans. As I read so many writers’ assessment of what we lost, some would say overstating the case, it helps offset my natural tendency to believe all the 4 & 5 star recruits will rise to their potential over the summer and make us always surprise to the upside. I actually feel sorry for those who cannot feel optimistic during the Spring and Summer, it is one of the best parts of being a fan. Yes, you have to keep your feet on the ground, but why be prematurely pessimistic every day?

I think there is some merit to understanding a potential replacement being better. Hard to imagine John Brantley will win more games than Tebow. Hard to imagine some LB will have more control and be more dominant than McClain at Bama. But it is very easy to believe that a non-colorblind QB will be better than Cox. That’s probably a little harsh on Joe. I really love the kid for his red & black blood, but I guess I’m trying to say that it’s not a stretch to say that we have LOTS of room to improve at the QB position, as well as the safety position, to say the least. Maybe I have PH. Sometimes PH is right.

We have lots of room to improve at the QB position now that there is a running game. Don Meredith once said that a great RB turns a QB into a “Field General.” I’m betting Murray is a “Field General” next year.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times: Paul Johnson’s hubris is going to be his undoing. There’s just no doubt about it. The fact that he actually believes his offense is perfect and can’t be stopped if it’s executed well, and that any failing is on the part of the players… sports fans, it’s going to come back and bite him in his ass. I will enjoy watching.

IMO Fiutak is generally on the money about conference expansion although he may not have each and every team right about which conference they will be in. And like it or not, don’t think for a minute the SEC powers that be won’t let GA Yech back in the SEC. It’s all about money and between UGA and Yech that would completely sew up the State of Georgia TV market (the 9th biggest market in the US) for the SEC.
