I have no doubt that the TV ratings for the Big Ten championship game more than make up for getting shut out of the national title game.
Best wishes for continued success in your role as head programmer for the Big Ten Network. And enjoy the Rose Bowl, sir.
The only positive for the Big whatever is the NIU loss, which will allow tOSU to make a BCS game.

Tell me that is untrue! I can’t bear to see more of the Cryer in these high profile games and the myth of B10 relevance.

I guess your post was supposed to be snarky, Senator, but I found the Big 10 Championship game to be the best game on TV yesterday. They played real football, you know, with defense and all. I also kept asking myself throughout the game, “Why can’t Georgia play defense like Michigan State?” Then it struck me: Georgia can’t play defense like that because of our HC. Teams take on the personality of the head coach. The reason Michigan State plays tough defense is…their HC is a tough SOB who demands that his players also be tough SOBs. Georgia’s HC….well, isn’t. As best as I can tell Mark Richt doesn’t demand anything of his players. So, we lose games when DBs meaninglessly try to intercept balls to pad their personal stats and instead tip the ball to the opposition–with no consequences to the players. We lose games by not tackling–with no consequences to the players. We lose games by not covering pass receivers–with no consequences to the players. And that, in a nutshell, is how you have the best offense in the SEC yet lose 3 conference games and 4 games overall, and get beat by teams with inferior talent game after game, year after year. Ask youself this: When was the last time a Georgia football team upset a team that actually had better talent than the Dawgs? Think about it.

LSU this season, especially after Gurley went out of the game with an injury.
BTW, if Richt doesn’t demand anything from his players, how do you explain why this team never quit this season?

Weak sauce, Senator. Go through both LSU and UGA rosters and compare player by player, and say with a straight face that LSU had better talent. Aaron Murray vs. Mett. Gurley/Marshall vs. the LSU backs. Our O-line (both in personnel and numbers) vs. the LSU O-line. Our D-line vs. LSU’s. Our LBs vs. theirs (Ramik was leading tackler in the SEC). I agree our DBs were inferior but not in talent–they just haven’t been coached up. Don’t just make sh!t up Senator. It doesn’t become you.

I’m not making anything up. If you choose to believe otherwise, be my guest. Want to bet on which QB goes higher in the NFL draft?

Oh, so now you are saying that the guy who got kicked off the Georgia team and wound up in Baton Rouge is BETTER than the guy who beat him out in Athens who owns every SEC passing record in the books? You’ve really lost it now, Bluto. Give it up, man.

I thought we were discussing talent levels, not who makes for a better player.
I wouldn’t have traded David Greene for another QB at Georgia. You think he was the most talented college QB of his era?
If you’ll stick to one argument, I’ll try to keep up.

David Green won the most games of any college QB in the history of the game by the time he left. Aaron Murray broke all of Greene’s passing records. Sooo, are you saying that Mett is a better QB than David Geene, too?

Are we discussing which team is better or more talented?
If it’s the former, LSU finished with a better record this year and handily beat Auburn. If we’re talking about the latter, you haven’t said anything pursuasive yet.

My point exactly, Senator. Once again CMR does less with more. UGA had/has more talent than LSU, even beat them, but ends up with a worse record. Also, UGA would have beaten Auburn except for our 2 ADD DBs trying for the INT and tipping it to the opposition instead of knocking the ball down, thereby losing the game. Name another top coach who would put up with that BS? But Richt does….nothing. Saban would have them running the stadium ’til their tongues fell out–if he didn’t kick them off the team.

Yeah! Mark Richt sucks!! He’s got better players than LSU and that’s why we won!
C’mon Mayor…you hungover or something? First, I’d love to see us at full strength vs MSU in a bowl game. I’d take Murray/Gurley over them in a heartbeat. That was/is a weak tOSU team that is nearly one dimensional. The B1G ain’t the SEC. If Dantonio and Richt swapped places, MSU would be an offensive force, average 9+ wins each year and win B1G titles more than once a decade. UGA would have a good D, lose most major recruiting battles, and be middle of the road SEC. See Arky and Tenn for examples.

You did see UGA at full strength against MSU in a bowl game–in the 2011 season. How’d that work out?

The last time I checked, our terrible coach was 1-1 against their great coach. I like and respect coach D and I LOVE the fact that they ended the infamous Urban Meyer win streak, but stop with the sour grapes. Dantonio averages FOUR losses per season in perhaps the weakest division of the weakest conference in D-1. Put him in the SEC and that number goes up. CMR averages three losses per year and he plays UT, AU, USCe, and UF every year. Coach D is in 3-4 in bowl games and CMR is 8-4. Apples to apples sir.

When did Richt and Dantonio ever face off against each other besides the 2001 bowl game? I’m not aware of a second game.

Mayor, you’re too intelligent a writer and too much a Dawg fan to continue this futile and juvenile argument. Take a deep breath, drink or whatever and take a truly analytical look at the Dawgs under Richt. You’re above this, man…there’s better swords to fall on!

If “full strength” to you is a depleted depth chart at running back, then there’s no helping you.

We started that year with a limited number of RBs. We start the year with a limited number at some position and finish with a depleted depth chart at that position every year. If “full strength” means to you a team with a full complement at every position that likely will never happen while CMR is HC.

Of all people to use the word “weak” in a post Mayor, it shouldn’t be you. You are the weakest, whiniest little UGA fan on the board. You sniffle at every thing that doesn’t go the way you want, run down our coach at every opportunity, and waffle in the wind with every up or down piece of news, or result. Grow a pair.

Of all people on this blog to criticize someone else, you are the most sniveling, cry-baby of all. You never have an original thought but merely parrot whatever the politically correct mantra of the week may be. I remember 2010 when you joined the mob that wanted CMR’s head and in 2012 when he was being attacked on all sides after just one loss (South Carolina game) and you were notably absent from his defense. Go crawl back into your bottle.

Last week you could have posted the same thing about Mizzou’s defense after the TAMU game. How’d they look this week?
Should we hire Gary Pinkel or his DC?
If Sparty gets run over by Stanford, will you be back to praise Dantonio? Or will you move on to lobby for whichever coaching staff looks good in their bowl game?

I’m not lobbying for anyone. I’m just making the observation that the UGA D is consistently shitty. Do you disagree?

I actually thought MSU and OSU both sucked. They were slow and cumbersome on offense…and the intensity level was about half of what you see in a huge SEC game.
Give blame where blame is due, and credit where credit is due. CMR came out of an horrible injury situation with a respectible record and at least three SEC teams knowing they dodged a bullet. LSU, and SC both have talent comparable to Georgia..and FU had injuries comparable to Georgia.
It’s not fair to debate this season and pretend the injuries weren’t a factor.

I agree. In some ways this season was a very good coaching job by CMR because of the way he dealt with the injury situation. I am certainly not calling for his head. I just want him to fix the things that are broken and one of those things is player attitude, specifically the ME mentality that exists among some on the team, which directly led to at least one loss.
