I remember being impressed with the ACC’s acquisitions and thinking that they were poised to rival the SEC. What a joke that was. This year was the closest Miami has ever come to fulfilling their promise of being a competent program in the ACC, and still they came up well short of the mark. Boston College has been a non-factor. FSU was largely irrelevant in the 12-team era (though welcome back this year, Seminoles, and good luck in Pasadena). Virginia Tech took the league by storm, but even they have started to slide towards mediocrity in the last two or three seasons.
So much for that.

I felt that way also, those were good acquisitions for the ACC and this is the first year they looked like I thought they might. Earlier this year I felt they might be the 2nd best football conference but Miami collapsed, VT was very disappointing, and BC, NC State, UNC have been in reverse the past few years. PAC12 was the 2nd best this year. Although the Big 12 was once pretty strong, Texas screwed the conference forever running Nebraska, A&M, and Colorado off. ACC has always been the #1 basketball conference to me and although I don’t watch basketball any more, it looks like they are going to create even more distance between them and other conferences with the latest additions.
I hope FSU stomps Auburn into the ground next week. The cheating Barners and dirty FU are the only two SEC teams I don’t support in out of conference games. The winner of the MNC game has nothing to do with who has the best conference, that is a lazy man’s way of determining that….which means many in the media will latch on.

At the rate they’re adding schools, in a few years they may end up having half the nations programs under one umbrella. Who’s gonna be laughing then wwl?

If FSU wins the BCSNCG the ACC will be considered to be back and more powerful than ever. The media will have a field day about that. Remember the ACC has a deal with ND to play 5 games a year with ACC teams. The ACC is already the top basketball conference in the nation and is competitive in baseball as well as pretty much all the non-revenue producing sports (golf, lacrosse, etc.). If the ACC can convince ND to take the next logical step and become a full member of the ACC plus land 1 more powerful program (like stealing a team from the SEC) the ACC is poised to become the premier all-sports conference in the nation.

Those are some pretty big if’s. Nobody is leaving the SEC to join the ACC.
