Not surprisingly, afterwards Herbstreit dropped Mayfield on his Heisman favorites list from #2 to #7. Speaking of which, it was clear Herbstreit was upset during this clip, as he just sat there saying “wow,” “surprising” and all the rest. Finally, I’ve heard that Kirk is a nice guy and all, but he’s such an unabashed OSU homer that he really shouldn’t be calling any games involving his beloved school.
Like them or hate them, guys like Jesse Palmer, Pollack, and others do a great job of staying neutral or objective, while Herbstreit openly cries and complains on the air after OSU loses a title game and such. I frankly don’t know how Chris Fowler puts up with him. Lastly, there was absolutely no need for Mayfield to apologize – clearly someone spoke to him about it, and he chose to go the PC route by apologizing to those he offended.

That’s such a ridiculous thing to say. The man can’t even live near Columbus because the fan base is so vicious toward him about his perceived negativity toward them on his part. Just goes to show you can’t make anyone happy as a commentator.

Herbie lit a fire a week ago when he was doing another game. he said after the OU/OSU promotional spot “I wonder what it made the OU fans a players feel like when OSU sang their fight song on the OU field. i bet that hurt.” he’s the biggest OSU homer. he shouldn’t call their games ever.

It’s college kids playing football and they’re placed between million dollar coaches and million dollar tv deals. The pressure on them to perform is immense.
