Evidently Mike Leach is not a morning person.
Evidently Mike Leach is not a morning person.
Mike Leach doesn't mind 7:30pm kickoffs, because the east coast stays up late. But "anyone who wants to play at 10am is out of their mind." pic.twitter.com/lmdf3Gs6hR

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
Appreciate the Leach but I can’t get audio from that clip.

It’s you. Audio works fine for me.

I tend to leave the right earbud and let the left hang down so my wife thinks I’m listening to her. Turns out, the audio is left side only….sorry

Gotta agree with him. However, I do see Peterson’s point. At least an occasional 1:00 game would put them at 4:00 on the east coast. Don’t see the problem for ESPN with that.

Even a 7/8 PM kickoff East Coast is a bit better for exposure. Only 4/5 PM kickoff West Coast time.

Are you trolling Derek with all the Leach posts?

Let’s hope not. I don’;t need that commentary today. And, there hasn’t been ONE F bomb dropped in any of these posts.

Moving games to get more eyes on the East Coast is not good for the fans in the stands.

Totally true and valid point. Now all we need to do is find out who cares about fans at games? Starting to wonder if the IPF phenomenon is just a way to get every school with a TV studio. Green screen the walls, fill in some stock fan footage, pipe in some sound; it’s all part of the Master Plan. 😉 Just kidding. I think.

Why not on the west coast? They could have more late afternoon games which are early evening on the east coast. Why is that bad for fans?

UDub has always been my second favorite team going back to the Don James era. I also think Petersen is one of the absolute best coaches in the country and an all around good dude. With that said, he’s wrong here, and the ratings prove as such.
UDub’s east coast ratings for their games this year are the highest they’ve ever been, thanks to them being broadcast on ESPN. Also, night games, including games later in the evening, draw higher ratings on the east coast than, say, 2 pm games broadcast on the east coast out of region.
He really has nothing to complain about, and the overall ratings proves he’s wrong.

Read his comments in full on the Seattle Times. Seems, to me, he was talking about it more from the fans view. Since the better teams are shown at night, the ratings should be better.
Also, even if he is wrong, ESPN sure got petty over it.
Senator: You need to play the part about Leach and his expanding the playoffs to 64. That should get a lot of comments on here.

I listened to the entire presser and I wonder if Leach is serious about his 64 team playoff idea or if he was being tongue in cheek. Most of the examples he cites are way short of 64–either 16 or 32 teams. Also, the tone of his voice and the way he went on and on about it just had the air of a prank. Leach is known as a joker with a dry sense of humor.

The Pirate’s life-experience wisdom is of an older man and the bricks that come from nowhere. The simplest truths drip from the Pirate’s eyes.
WSU will be the darling of the East Coast late night crowd and many a drink lifted to the wisdom of the Pirate. I’m certainly headed for their schedule on late night viewing this and the next weekends. Double free drinks on nights WSU follows a ND game in the schedule. Now, with the power of ESPN favor gleaned through their spokesperson; WSU may have an early afternoon scheduled game before their rival.
Consider the tequila lifted already.
