Bert, showing ass:
There’s also been a drastic dip in production running the ball over that same time. Arkansas is averaging 4.2 yards per carry over the past two seasons. The Hogs averaged more than 5 yards per carry during the first three seasons under Bielema.
The obvious difference between then and now is a new offensive line coach. Sam Pittman left for the same position at Georgia following the 2015 season. Kurt Anderson arrived from the Buffalo Bills and took over the unit. Things clearly haven’t been the same since.
But Bielema insists this is not a coaching problem. Instead, he’s looking at a lack of productive players as the reason for the downfall of Arkansas’ offensive front.
“I think, obviously, a coach is only going to be allowed to coach at a level of what his personnel is,” Bielema said. “It gets frustrating, but I think there’s some guys we recruited three or four years ago that just haven’t developed into what we want them to be.”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t recruiting and player development part of coaching?
And what a coincidence that Pittman’s change of jobs has led to a drop in run production at his old school and improvement at his new one…

I was going to reply with a snarky comment about it having to be a coincidence, ’cause based on a lot of comments based on last season’s results neither Pittman or Chaney were capable of coaching at this level or even middle school. Nah. I like what I’m seeing and I hope that those who spent last season bashing the staff are enjoying the crow. Grill it rare and take big bites, y’all.

That still doesn’t change what we saw last year.

I judged last year’s OL production as pretty bad.

Bad? It was horrible. That’s not my point.

Oh, I blamed it on Chaney and Pittman. 🙂
And I’m happy they learned so much from my astute criticisms.

I’m happy too. 🙂

Yep. Just coincidence. But our O-line seems to have progressed and keeps on progressing each game such that these players are right up Bert’s alley, unlike those ingrates that he just sold down the river as to any future interest from the NFL.
Maybe all the O-linemen can visit Bert’s house and ask him to go away.

Bert’s just mad because he didn’t have a non-compete in Pittman’s contract
like he did with his OC.

Let’s not forget that Bert showed up to Pittman’s house and begged him to stay. Then a few days later after hiring the NFL guy, Bert boasted about not missing Pittman because, after all, he finally found a true OL coach who coached in the NFL.
I love how Bert is blaming the same players he recruited and developed instead if looking in the mirror and admitting fault. Hell, I bet he also blames the local bbq and fast food joints for his girth as well.
Here is the question I want to know – just how happy is Pittman these days? He basically jumped off an Enron like ship before the collapse and onto a rising Google or Amazon.

The guy has had so many late game bad decisions, I don’t see how he can honestly throw anyone under the bus. He’s tried to be the SEC’s new riverboat gambler but has failed miserably. His ego matches his size and now it’s coming home to roost. He won’t be there next season.

Could Mike Bobo wind up here in 18?

Bobo hasn’t done anything at Colorado State that’s going to inspire anyone to hire him as a HC in the SEC.

CSU is 4-2 with a loss to Bama (the #1 team) and Colorado. They will most likely lose 1 more games and finish with 9 or 10 regular season wins.

There may be coaches that marginally outdo him here and there in some areas, but he is the most well-rounded asshole of all the SEC coaches. Just a tool. Like a whole shed full of tools in one man, the Swiss Army Knife of tool coaches.
