Taking stock during the bye week, a tale in two parts

I’ve already posted today about what Georgia (hopefully) will be doing in the two weeks leading up to the Cocktail Party.

Meanwhile, at Florida

I’m waiting on the DA in Gainesville to announce the deal that reduces felony charges to misdemeanors for 2 players, thus clearing them to return to the football team. If not FU really screwed up by pissing off Huntley Johnson.

Yeah but CMR was circling the drain, too.

How long have they been suspended? A dozen weeks? I know some of those alleged thieves are fine athletes, but even if they got cleared to play tomorrow, I’m not sure they’ll be able to get completely up to speed with the rest of the team, even with a bye week in there.

Well we lost to Will Muschamp as his tenure was circling the drain, so I won’t boast just yet. That said, I do feel pretty good about this game. Enough to buy tickets and drive 6 hours to take part.

I’m not sure that article was in English.

It would have gotten an “F” in my creative writing class at UGA in the 1980’s.

Was there a comma splice? Back in days of old, a comma splice was a death sentence.

        Oh, the memories.
Yes, a comma splice was good for an “F”, written large in red, and circled.
I still remember remarks she wrote on two of my papers, and this was 37 years ago.

“You have a considerable facility with the English language, young man, but, unless you learn and apply the common rules of grammar, you will fail this course.”

        And

“…full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

        She was great.

I was blessed in undergrad with two great professors, and one in grad school.

        Fun times.

If you think that was bad, just read oh, pretty much anything on the AJC site these days. No one can be bothered to proofread it. Not one of those articles would pass as a college writing assignment.

Aww, the Gators are having problems. The optimal reaction to that is: TOUGH SHIT!

FU is going to be like a wounded animal. McElwain will see this game as critical to saving his job. Given the history of this game for the last 30 years and FU’s penchant for beating Georgia teams when the the Dawgs have superior talent (remember 2014?) this game is very dangerous, even if FU doesn’t have its best team. Kirby knows all that and will have the team ready to play though. We will beat FU this year. GATA!!

THIS. Our history in similar scenarios scares the crap outta me.

UGA doesn’t have much history of playing at a consistently high level in all 3 phases like this team.

I agree. This team is waaay more physical than any Georgia team I can remember–maybe the ’12 team would be somewhat comparable but even that team didn’t hit like this one.

Even last year, it felt different to me. Last year, we we’re still learning how to block. This year, I think it’s all come together. I expect we win handily.

Meanwhile, FU is practicing frantically on their self-blocking. We haven’t seen enough highlights this year showing some FU player blocking another FU player. Hope they get it down pat before we play them.

If we beat them then I will truly believe. Too many better UGA teams have been beaten in Jax since 1990 to think this will be easy.

Attached to that piece is several more articles including Cohens: “How About Somebody Getting Mad”, that all should read. More insight to the underbelly of players’, coaches’ and fans’ total dissatisfaction. He pulls no punches and interviews with players points to morale(unmentioned) as something they have to crawl over before getting it together.

Btw, does anyone know what is transpiring with their suspensions and whether those suspended players work out and practice with the team?

That piece by Cohens was a fun read. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a window into gaytor angst.

“At the season’s midpoint, this Gator team has gone from aspirations of Atlanta to hoping it can quality for a bowl game.”

The suspended players have not been working out with the team. Not participating in practices.

Prediction– McElwain promotes Malik Zaire to starter, spiking the Gatorade cooler with a Bauta-esque fifth of Fake Juice for the Cocktail Party. Stay tuned.

I think they roll the dice and make a change like this. Let’s face it, they look inept offensively doing what they have been doing with Del Rio and Franks, why not bring in a different type QB and mix in some Wildcat packages? Fortunately we are pretty stout against the run, but we have to prepare for something totally off the wall from them. They don’t have the passer or receiver to worry us much at all. Dawgs will win but they will be working their tails off for us the next two weeks.

I want us to go Spurrier on their ass. Remember in the 90s they would get a big lead against us and it was pretty much over. By halftime, the score should be about 28-3 and then we enjoy the Gator stands empty in the third quarter.

Seeing as how Kirby was on that 1995 team where the ol’ Ball Sack ran it up in Sanford Stadium, I’d hope he has the same chip on his shoulder that Spurrier did. If so, putting a sufficient beat-down on the gators shouldn’t be a problem for Kirby. I hope we’re going to two while up by 4 scores (or more) many times. Oh, and let Chubb throw a pass for a TD in the fourth quarter so we hit 50+.
