Just when you think Corchgate can’t sink any lower…

… along comes Brett McMurphy to prove that wrong.

Documents and receipts Stadium has obtained show Zach Smith ordered more than $2,200 in sex toys, male apparel and photography equipment and had the items delivered to him at Ohio State’s Woody Hayes Athletic Center in 2015.

The Woody Hayes Athletic Center houses all Buckeye football operations.

All of the items were delivered to “Zach Smith, Woody Hayes Athletic Center, 535 Irving Schottenstein Drive, Columbus” between February and May 2015. Copies of some of those documents are listed below.

Courtney Smith said Zach Smith took multiple photos of his penis inside the Ohio State coaches’ offices, inside the White House when the Buckeyes visited in 2015 and also photographed himself in the coaches’ offices receiving oral sex and having sex with a OSU staffer.

After winning the 2014 national title, the Buckeyes were honored at the White House on April 20, 2015.

One photo of Smith’s penis, taken on April 20, 2015 according to a time stamp, shows Smith in his black suit he wore to the White House event. Another photo of Smith’s penis includes a White House bathroom towel featuring the Seal of the President of the United States.

As they like to say on the Internets, read further and you’ll see that McMurphy has the receipts.  And Smith’s attorney is freaking out.

Brad Koffel, Zach Smith’s attorney, said Friday that he had “no idea” about the photos and sex paraphernalia sent to Smith to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

After providing Koffel with copies of some of the sex orders and photos, I asked Koffel: What was the purpose of Zach Smith taking those photos in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and the White House, and why were the sex items delivered to him at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center? Did Urban Meyer have knowledge of this information?

The following was the entire text exchange between Koffel and myself.

Koffel: Sounds like extortion. Thanks for the texts Brett. I’d get a lawyer if I were you.
McMurphy: Not extortion. I’m not asking for money nor have I received any money. I’m asking for your comment to my original question: what was the purpose of taking these photos and why were the items delivered to the Woody Hayes Center? And did Urban Meyer have knowledge of any of this?
McMurphy: As a courtesy, as you said you would extend, here are my questions: what was the purpose of taking these photos and why were the items delivered to the Woody Hayes Center? And did Urban Meyer have knowledge of any of this? Thx u
Koffel: You know these were accessed illegally. Another felony
McMurphy: I don’t know how they were accessed. Can you answer my questions please
Koffel: You absolutely know or should know these were obtained without my client’s consent. If not, you do know.
Koffel: *now
McMurphy: What are the answers to my questions?
Koffel: You have my answers & my advice. Tread very lightly.
McMurphy: You didn’t answer my questions? So you have nothing further?
Koffel: Not him except with his face. Gag gifts. The oral sex is not him.
McMurphy: Want to double check: White House picture with his tie and wedding ring that are visible from media photos of the event is not him?
Koffel: Nope
McMurphy: Thx u
Koffel: This is receiving stolen property.
Koffel: If any one of this is published or referenced we will refer to the county prosecutor. This is a felony ORC 2913.04
Koffel: Also you are under RC 2913.05

Citizen’s ay-rest!  Citizen’s ay-rest!

It’s not him, but it’s stolen property is an interesting take, I have to admit.

Ohio State says the investigation is concluding Sunday.  At the rate this is going, the school probably wishes it could wrap things up in the next fifteen minutes.

Any individual one of Smith’s offenses would get most of us run off the campus faster than students bolting for Jacksonville on a Friday in October. That they kept around a hideous low-life who also had so little obvious coaching value is astonishing. Corch is a world-class asshole at people management, apparently.

        World-class asshole in many respects.

And that’s what I can’t understand about head coaches – was Smith really that talented a wide receivers coach to warrant keeping him after so many years of spousal abuse, DUIs, and general incompetence?

And that was exactly the key point in Pat Forde’s article I read today. Why indeed? What it says about Urbie is why they are fools top not run him off. The question is, why is it taking so long? Even without the new details, there was enough to act two weeks ago as Meyer went way back to Gainesville with Zack Smith. If you are bringing along your team, and you believe in your code of ethics made public there, how does ZS fit in exactly. Then add the 2015 incident you now claim you did know about, what took an additional 3 years?

UM is a low-life that should not be in a high position at any school, and certainly not being paid $7+MM to make the kind of judgement decisions he has made throughout his career. And he didn’t expect, or prepare for, the questions regarding Smith after he just fired him days before arriving in Chicago for a major media event? New definition for a $7MM dollar man to me.

Why? Ego, hubris, self-delusion that comes from acting with complete impunity for a decade and a half, while people worshipped you because of your W/L record. When you look up “god complex,” a picture of Urban Meyer’s smug mug should accompany the term.

Consider that this is a guy that feels the need to crank out a new book every few years touting his “leadership” skills.

  8. Urban was his usual dickish self and tried to Fake News it away. McMurphy has then spent the last 3 weeks putting on a masterclass of a) why journalism is critically important, and b) how you don’t stop twisting the knife, even when you’ve hit bone.

    Just outstanding work.

  9. Geez, this is amusing. “Extortion!! Ummm…uh, it’s NOT him!!! Ummm, stolen property!!!”

Quite a client you have there, Mr. Koffel. Not counting the lying, the wife-beating, the drunk driving, the affairs, the sex toys sent to office, the sex with OSU staffer, and the general impression of stupid shitbag he exudes in every media interaction…..I’m sure he was a model employee and a great role model to all those young men he coached in Columbus.

There is NO WAY people around him on the coaching staff didn’t know about the kind of guy Zach Smith is. Of course, if “protocol” was to have weekly meetings about how to keep this loose-canon under wraps and all his shit a secret, then I’m sure protocol was followed.

It’s tough to gain much public support when you’ve been harboring an abuser and sexual deviant. Just ask fellow Big Ten schools Penn State and Michigan State. Urban and Gene Smith are toast…if for no other reason than their administration should be scared to death about stuff continuing to be revealed about this lunatic.

Rule #1 when lying and creating a false narrative. Get your shit together. You say “no comment” until you have the info you need to make a consistent statement. This “you received stolen property” of a “person that isn’t my client” is major league dumb. You do not go the stolen property route unless you have enough info to get criminal charges or enough that you think you can win a civil judgement for some cash.

The problem with hiring a lawyer for Smith dumb enough to play along with the Meyer-Snook-Smith defense strategy is that he’s, well, dumb.

And his client, it would appear, is even dumber.

Which leaves me in happy territory. Either Meyer gets canned, or he’s retained because OSU fans/boosters don’t realize how damaged he is now as a recruiter. Win-win.

At this point, I’d almost prefer to see OSU stuck with him.

OSU IT, digital forensics. Especially since it appears Zach did all this on OSU issued phone and computers. A friendly PSA that nothing you do on a network and/or device that others maintain (including your ISP) is really private, regardless of what browser mode you may be using.

I am McMurphy’s side, but I think he misstepped to focus on the sex toys. Dick and sex pics were bad enough, and more relevant to what others within OSU would have likely known about (either from ZS talking/bragging, or from the other sexual participants). The sex toys came from Amazon in typical prime packages, which litter every workplace.

That side of the story has nothing to do with what Urban knew and when he knew it. That is not the sole legitimate public interest in this story. And frankly, Zach, Snook and the Bruces went there first. They brought a pen knife to a gun fight. Hard to feel sorry for them.

Smith and the Bruces, through Snook, have been pushing hard up there a narrative that Courtney made everything up and that Smith is a stand-up guy wronged by a scorned woman. They also attacked McMurphy’s credibility. Yeah, you have to ignore police reports to believe that nonsense, but tOSU fans seem more than willing to buy into the Alex Jones-conspiracy theory nonsense Snook was selling. Smith and the Bruces apparently thought they were succeeding well on that front. According to the Columbus Dispatch, they were planning on asking for Smith to be reinstated next month.

Snook and Smith made Zach’s overall character a huge part of this story with the goal of hitting the PR reset button and getting his job back. Part of that effort was going after Courtney and Brett personally. Apparently, no one asked Zach if he had any verifiable skeletons that might torpedo that strategy in a spectacular way.

And last, whether it’s a letter of the law violation that gets Urban canned or not, ALL of this just frames Urban’s hypocrisy in a compelling way. He’s out of excuses, and he’s lost his support in the press. Which is why I say below that I hope tOSU is forced to keep him.

Fair enough. I think dickpicks from the WH and BJs in the office say a whole lot more about a person’s character than if they wear a ball lifter, whatever the heck that is… Maybe he spilled the Amazon orders as proof that he also has the others? Still, I agree it is worth it if Snook has to eat his words and is made to look like the pile of excrement he is.

Deadspin has some great facts straight from McMurphy and it’s a doozy.

McMurphy has been on layoff with ESPN since 18 months ago. He was sucker-punched by execs who thought the higher paid writers/tv talking heads would spin in the wind and come back on a lesser scale in the future so there were others who viewed the ESPN layoff as a piece of shit for those higher paid’s demise. So he has been receiving a check every two weeks for doing nothing and after contacting every major sports show of consequence looking for rehire (13 of Aug was the last day). He offered the story to ESPN, but they froze at the wheel for 4.5 hrs after it was published on Facebook. Why Facebook? Because they were not another company entity (like B.McMurphy.com) that could be sued by ESPN for publishing their employee’s work.

He did his own investigation by going back to FU for open records and went forward from there researching everything meticulously. He had two professional friends (unidentified) who helped edit and played devils advocate to shoot holes in his first story. After he published that Meyer had to have known and shit was falling out of the sky on him, Courtney Smith called him and talked for 2.5 hrs before he told her he had to meet with her and discuss details fully. He did and he saw e-mails and got plenty of info (after 2.5 days – yep) before publishing and it came with the extra oats that’s hitting the stands now concerning the porn details.

He worked to get the receipts in hand and then repaired to a Fl beach until the 13th when he took employment with Athletic. One of his friends complimented him for the perfect revenge and said it was the perfect revenge story on ESPN for the way he was treated. A poster to the Deadspin story said that ESPN had impossibly kicked itself in the balls and physicians and physicists would be researching this for years as to how that could happen. What a hoot! Go and read it. (Pardon my mishaps on remembering everything in one typing as I’m sure there may be a factual mistake here somewhere since I haven’t referred back to the article.)
