“… the lack of competitiveness was alarming.”

Athlon dude’s not buying the Jeremy Pruitt’s got it goin’ on narrative:

I’m pretty sure I’m never going to stop enjoying “gets blown out at Vanderbilt”.

They can play this instead of Rocky Top:
    I just got here
    And this is crazy
    But here’s my roster
    So beat me maybe?

Not to say that Mitch Light has an ax to grind or anything, but he and I graduated from Vanderbilt at around the same time in the early 1990s…

Man I would love for them to finish 0-8 in the SEC again.

Read an article on a Missouri fan site not long ago whose premise was “things we’ve learned since joining the SEC”, in which they announced the Viles as “the most delusional fanbase in the SEC”, which was a hammer meet nail moment, and another reason I sorta like Missouri fans.

Would like to have read that piece my self. I lived among the TN fans for 12 years so I got a pretty good peek at them in good times, and bad. While I would characterize them as the most myopic of CFB fans on a macro basis, I wouldn’t call them the most delusional on an every year basis. That tends to swing among all programs at one time or another. For instance, SC fans last season, and FU fans this off season, are hands down more delusional than the average TN fan. TN fans have accepted it will take time to be competitive again, losing to Vandy by double digits might be responsible for that current rational thinking though.

Every one of my in-laws is urnge…. they have no idea that they really aren’t “Big 6” anymore. Texas A&M will be their permanent replacement.

My colleague says it best: “Tennessee is South Carolina, they just don’t realize it.”

Eh, UT actually has trophies in their trophy case, even if they are collecting dust. That’s a lot better than USCe.

I told my 20 year old football fan daughter that Tennessee used to be very good and she said “You mean like Army back in the day?” I per usual was glad not to be a Tennessee fan and haveto hear that comment. I thought that has to be the way recruits look at them now.

The vowels should just go ahead and claim themselves a basketball school and forget the football part.

To date, Kirby has been the only former Saban disciple to enjoy a high level of success as a HC, yet for some reason the general consensus on Pruitt was that he was going to be another Kirby, instead of another McElwain or Applewhite, which was always the more likely outcome.

Our hope is that Kirby build another program like Saban and their hope is to be more like Kirby. the irony of that should not be lost on anyone.

Well, they did win at Auburn. I said last year that Pruitt didn’t need go to a bowl game, he just needed a signature win. The Auburn win was it. Yeah, they looked bad against some other teams but Pruitt had nothing to work with. He’s starting to get at least a little bit of talent in Knoxville. Y’all can bang on Tennessee all you want but they’re going to scare some people this year. Personally, I fear Pruitt more than Mullen. Plus, other than 2017 (when they had nothing), they always play us tough at their place.

I really don’t see much difference between Pruitt, Mason, Stoops, Boom, Odom and Mullen. They all seem to be adequate HCs. Until Pruitt proves otherwise, you’d have to rate the new kid lowest. Mason, Odom and Stoops have tougher odds to overcome. Recruiting ability and recruiting territory are definitely a deciding factor. Kirby is absolutely right to concentrate so much effort on recruiting/roster management.
